Okra okra okra okra okra! Say that 10x fast... can’t wait to plant these bad boys! • • Do you soak your okra seeds before planting? Or do you think that’s an old wives tale? I think I only soaked them the very 1st year I planted okra, never again! 😁 #seedsaving

I’m well aware I keep posting this view from my kid’s bedroom window. But it is hard to resist. The skies from here are beautiful, no matter the season. It is also a special place, a view I have looked at for 20 months breastfeeding my daughter a few times a day. It is also the first window we cut out when we were building the tiny house, revealing our first view on the outside. It is the window we would peek out of when we were cosleeping with our son for the first two years of living here, when living here felt like an adventure every day. If you asked me what home is, this view is it . . . #homestead #home #homesteadinglife #lovetheview #viewfrommywindow #homesteading #offgrid #offgridliving #offgridlife #vermont #vermontbyvermonters #vermontlife #802 #sunsets

We reuse egg cartons to pack our eggs, we receive them from our friends and family after they've used them. Eventually the cartons lose their integrity and we can't use them for packing eggs. One way we finish their life cycle is to let them smolder in areas we are spending time in to keep mosquitos away. (Being careful around children and animals of course!) This is reminiscent of the old Tim Horton drink trays we used to burn while camping. It was a great trick then and still is now. #bitbybitfarm #backyardfarm #homestead #homesteadinglife #canadianhomestead #mosquitos #mosquitorepellant #reduce #reuse #recycle

Some days it feels like 80% of holistic homesteading is moving stuff from place to where it's a problem to places where it's a solution. Duckweed in the pond, bad. Duckweed in the garden, good. Poop in the coop, bad. Poop in the compost, good. #homesteadinglife

Three years ago, I started on a journey to look skinny in a bikini. Three years ago, all I cared about was the number on the scale going down. Three years ago, I was lost and had absolutely no idea where to begin. . . Today I had a grocery cart full of fresh produce (and stuff to make cookies for Justin 😜). Today I know how to eat to fuel my body and feel my best. Today I can say I care more about how many miles I ran on Saturday than how my bikini looks. . . Working on YOU will lead to a healthier lifestyle and that might mean weight loss, but it will definitely mean a better outlook on life. It will lead you to having more friends that lift you up, instead of bring you down. It will mean your cupboards go from Oreos and PBR to chopped kale and fresh broccoli. Working on YOU will never be a bad idea girlfriend, and I only wish I had joined my virtual accountability gang sooner. What do you have to lose? Nothing. But you have everything to gain. Sign ups for my July virtual Bootcamp are now open! 🦄💕

Hawthorn is forming it's berries. Hawthorn is one of my favorite herbs. We have native black hawthorn here, high in anthocyanins and antioxidants. It makes a fruity tincture that's good for the heart and circulation. I view it as an all round health tonic. ⁣ ⁣ The bark of black hawthorn, like cramp bark, is good for menstrual cramps, too. ⁣ ⁣ #hawthorn , #medicinalherbs , #safeherbs , #wildmedicine , #growyourownmedicine , #diy , #thanksgarden , #joybilee , #homesteadinglife

Our basement forms got delivered today!!✨🙌🏻✨. In the next couple days, we’ll be building our basement walls, lego-style, then we’ll be ready to pour concrete into them by the end of the week! ✨ In preparation for this, family has been hard at work, leveling the basement slab area, getting drain tile put in, and just this morning getting plumbing pipes added! So much is happening right now, and it’s going to look sooo different in the next week or two!✨💖✨ ✨ Also, don’t you jus love the picture of our 4-year-old helping daddy with his tiny excavator?😅🥰 ✨ #familylife #wildandfreekids #cominghome #homesteadinglife #buildyourdreams #buildingafarmhouse #homesteading #insulatedconcreteforms @liteform_icf #homeschooljourney #northernminnesota #northwoods #learnbyliving #newhomeconstruction #newoldfarmhouse #americangothichouse #modernfarmhouse #countryliving #midwestliving

Almost five years later and I’ve bought This starter kit of oils 4 additional times. Hands down the best “sure, I’ll give them a try” I’ve ever said. 🙌🏼. . If you’re looking for a sign, here it is. Say yes sweet friend. Yes to a healthier you, yes to taking control of what comes in your home, yes to oils and products that actually work and say no to poisoning yourself with store bought products and scents. Say yes to linking arms with other mommas, dads, teachers, nurses, students, lawyers, farmers and all the other sweet people in our community. Yes to learning how to ditch the harmful toxins and get back to the way things used to be. . And when you’re ready to say yes, slide on into my DM because I have something special just for YOU! 😉

11 cans of Rhubarb + Mixed Berry Sauce (Rhu-berry???) made this morning. I was given a huge amount of Rhubarb and figured I would make sauce out of it.....ya, this only used half of what I was given haha geez, my kids will be sick of Rhubarb by the end of the summer lol I only used 4 ingredients to make this; Rhubarb, frozen berries, honey, sugar, and vanilla. We'll be enjoying some of this tonight paired with sourdough waffles 🌲🌲🖤🖤🌿🌿🌹🌹 . . . #nehiyawiskwew #canning #homesteader #homesteadinglife #homesteadrecipes #homesteading #homemaking #homesteadskills #homesteadingskills #yummy #sourdough #sourdoughwaffles #saskatooning #Saskatoon #sk #YXE #rhubarb #mixedberries

My being is tired. In the past 5 days: - I’ve gotten .1825381266 seconds of sleep - Jackson picked up dog poop (thank god for Thieves hand soap) - I’ve cried... a lot - I’ve resorted to sleeping in my Jackson bed - I’ve cleaned the same rooms in my house like 10 times each, just for them to be a mess when I wake up the next morning - My car decided to fall apart - I’ve mourned a loved one - I’ve worn the same pajamas a few days in a row - I organized my cabinets because when my heart hurts my hands need to be going (who else stress cleans?) - We’ve got a bebe with sniffles, a cough and now pink eye I’m tired. I’m tired. I’m tired.

Good day! . . . Monday Monday. Oh, Monday. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Truck has a busted brake line. Needs some pads? Oh sure! 💸💸 What else? “We’ll make you a list.” 😂😂 My husband’s @toyotausa Tundra is a tank, and has well over 200k miles on it. We’re not making any new vehicle fashion/status statements over here and will fix it because we don’t need anything sparkly new. If it works, it works. And it’s paid for, even better. But that dang car bill... happy Monday! We’ve all been there, just keeping it real over here! Seed potatoes. You put them in the ground and in three weeks you will start to see green leaves popping up... a few months we will dig up the plants to find the tuber and POTATOES have multiplied... It’s weird... I’m all like so I order potatoes, that look just like potatoes, and then I let them start to sprout and “eye” and then I cut them up and they multiply and give me even MORE potatoes.. Ok, I get down with that ! Potatoes do ya thang!

But I sometimes find it so hard to take it all in... the beautiful mess that is life right now? Where are my type a mamas at? . Will I ever have a happy kid and a clean house? . I’m truly asking..... . Send help.......... and a maid.

Hold on to your hats! (OK, so maybe that is a little dramatic.) But, we are excited! I think these ewes are expecting!. Look at the bellies of the brown and white one. Cocoa and Snowflake are definitely pregnant. The black one, Star, doesn't seem as big but time will tell. According to my calculations, July 20th is when we need to be on lamb watch. 🐑🐑🐑 The ewes have also been moved to their new pasture and have a little pallet shelter. Now, they are directly in our back yard. We enjoy watching them from our windows. They are much more talkative now that they can see us.😀 🐑🐑🐑 What kind of views are you enjoying from your back window? #sheep #icelandicsheep #raisingsheep #lambs #hobbyfarmsgram #hobbyfarm #hobbyfarmsofinstagram #hobbyfarms #farmherlife #smallfarmers #farmher #raisinganimals #farm #farmlife #wisconsin #rural #countrylife #iamcountryside #countryliving #homestead #homesteadersofamerica #homesteader #homesteading #homesteadmom #homesteadinglife #knowyourfood #summer #pasturefed #farmanimals #learningtofarm

The Walls O Water are probably due to come off in the next 1-2 weeks, I'm just piddlefarting around because the heat has been so exhausting lately. 😩

We eliminated breakfast cereal from our diet about a year ago when I found out how pesticide laden cereal was. We used to be big Honey Nut Cheerios and Raisin Bran eaters, telling ourselves we were choosing a “healthier” variety of cereal. ⠀ ⠀ Now instead we opt for more organic rolled or steel cut oats for breakfast. Occasionally I will buy a few boxes of the Kashi Go Lean Organic cereal. When you buy USDA certified organic cereal you can be sure no pesticides were used and no GMOs. ⠀ ⠀ Below is a link to a recent article about cereals and pesticides by the Environmental Working Group (EWG). If you’ve never heard of them, EWG is a great source for food and produce safety. I use them to know which conventional foods are grown with the most pesticides. They also hipped me to the potential risks of using Borax. ⠀ ⠀ https://www.ewg.org/childrenshealth/monsanto-weedkiller-still-contaminates-foods-marketed-to-children/?fbclid=IwAR297GLJ4ZNrmawokeU_msqDDdgGASQvlF0PE8oUQAcnyiU2SXfyvMWSabI⠀ ⠀ #tiayonhomestead #blackhomestead #homesteading #homesteadlife #gardening #gardenlife #wellbeing #homesteadinglife #urbanhomesteading #happyhomesteading #modernhomesteading #values #growyourown #mygarden #urbangardening #backyardgarden #growsomethinggreen #growwhatyoueat #ediblegarden #eatwhatyougrow #homegarden #sustainableliving #organicgarden #veggiegarden #gardener #ewg #pesticides

Our 1st hatched out #silky is doing very well. She (wishful thinking) has all her toes, feathers on her feet and is soft beyond words. No poof on the head yet but there is still time for that! For #learnsomethingnewmonday I wanted to talk about pine shavings. This weekend our feed store was closed so we had to resort to a big box store for the shavings. When we got home and opened the bag the smell was over powering! Not all pine shavings are created equal. If you can smell it bet your chics would get more than a small whiff of it. It was obvious that they had not been cured for anytime at all. This can be dangerous to your chics. Lesson learned...back to the local weed and feed store today to get a brand I trust! #mycottagefancy #mycottagelife #chickensofinstagram #homesteadinglife #pineshavings #buylocal #feedstore #saynotobigboxstores #love

Did you know... that the first “combs” were found on the remains of the last dinosaurs?! . Chickens have combs (on the top of their head) and wattles (hanging down on each side) for a couple reasons: . 1️⃣ they help control their body temperature, keeping them cool during the summertime . 2️⃣ the color of the comb can also tell you a lot about a chicken’s health . 3️⃣ testosterone for the boys gives them a much bigger comb, while estrogen gives the girls a smaller comb (we can easily tell the boys from the girls)!
