It’s been a long time since I posted anything about our geese. Camilla (the Sebastopol on the left) and Big Bev (the Large Dewlap Toulouse on the right) slowly make their way into the coop for the night. You can barely see the ducks they’re leading in the background. It’s odd to see them side by side... usually one goose takes the lead and the other follows the flock to ensure they’re safe.

A dogs love isn’t complicated, it’s unbiased, and it’s so wholesome and pure. My boys drive me INSANE some days, but they also make my world complete. They love in a way that most humans don’t, with no hesitation or reservations. We can take a lesson from our dogs in how to love others, how to love ourselves. Through the good days and the bad, unconditionally. 🐶💕

We had a wonderful strawberry season! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some were small some were big but they were all flavorful and a whole lot of fun to pick. We got to eat a couple of handful for strawberries every day for a couple of months from just a small bed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My goal is to let the plants spread and fill maybe another bed or two so I also have enough to make at least one batch of jam and can it for the rest of the year. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Do you grow strawberries?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here is how to plant and grow strawberries (link in profile!) --> https://ladyleeshome.com/planting-strawberries/⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #growyourownfood #organicgardening #vegetablegardening #instgardners #ediblegarden #organicvegetablegardening #growingfood #lovegardening #veggiegarden #gardenlife #greenthumb #strawberry #strawberr #strawberries #strawberrypicking #growstrawberries #growingstrawberries #homesteadinglife #homestead #homesteadmama #homesteading #homesteader #homesteady #homesteadersofamerica #homesteadersofinstagram #homesteaders #homesteadlife #homesteads

“Good morning little pork chop you’re so cute I can’t wait to eat you!” Maybe that’s a bit morbid. But I do love my animals and want to give them the best life, with the best food, and space and love. Until the day that we butcher them. And not a lot of people agree with that and that’s fine. But when someone calls me and is like “Dee I heard that pork is going to go up in price because of the pigs in China, why are we shipping in pork from China.” Yasss people! Question where your freakin food comes from! Why are we importing pork from China?! So yes. I will tell my pigs they’re cute and I can’t wait to eat them. And they will be loved and well taken care of until we can harvest their beautiful meat. • • • • • • • • • • • • • #questionourfoodsystem #brokenfoodsystem #localmeat #sustainability #growyourownmeat #homesteadinglife #homesteadersofinstagram #homesteading #homesteadersofamerica #theporterhomestead #upstatenyhomestead

Life in the country is pretty strange sometimes. Brandon calls and tells me to get in the truck there are sheep in the road...umm ok??? Sure enough, this heard of sheep are in the road, escaped from somewhere. We pushed them back into someone’s pasture, the back neighbor, they said it was the neighbor across the street so Brandon went over there while I kept these guys in the yard. They were returned to the proper owner and we got to enjoy a nice sunset drive thru some pastures 😂 . . . #riefersranchlife #countryliving #homesteadinglife #sheep #sheepontheloose #crazylife #texassunset #whatlifeisthis #crazyadventures #homesteadersofinstagram #amarillotexas #livestock

Day 18 of 30 Days of No Yelling: Do you know why it is so easy to use Fear and Force on our kids? Because it works...at least in the short term. Since taking a break from parenting with these, we have seen our kids’ true feelings when we revert back to it, and it isn’t pretty. Today my two-year-old didn’t want to take a nap. I was very patient and I used all of my new tools to get her to go to bed, but she played around and kept doing other things (it felt like she was trying to make me mad). Then she hit me and I felt the steam rising. But instead of walking away like I should have done, I kept engaging. And she kept doing the opposite of what I was asking her to do. Two minutes later I blew my lid. I yelled, “Get in your bed!” And you know what, she immediately got in her bed! But as I walked away from her room fuming, she started to cry and call me. By the time I got to the kitchen, the guilt set in and I started to process. I really didn’t want to go back to her bedroom. I wanted to just let her cry and feel remorse for what she did. But I knew that was not what she was feeling. Instead she was feeling hurt and broken by my disconnection from her. So I went back to apologize, snuggle her and sing her a song. We reconnected and she stayed in bed. So yeah, Fear and Force “work,” but it builds a wall between you and your kids. Do you want to be disconnected from your kids? Do you want your kids to always be afraid of you? I don’t. Speaking of walls...check out my hubby’s latest project in our garden! #30daysofpositiveparenting #30daysofnoyelling #positiveparenting #positivediscipline #patientparenting #connectionbeforecorrection #parentingdetox #afreshstart #powerparenting #momlifecrisis #momlifebestlife #simpleparenting #homesteadmom #mamalife #theweberworld #outdoorkids #farmkids #sevenkids #largefamily #myminime #motherhoodunplugged #raisinghardworkers #minifarm #oneacrefarm #homesteadinglife #homesteadersofinstagram #homesteadersofamerica #northcarolinahomestead #nchomestead #growyourfood

I told him no cake for the birthday (because he always gets a DQ ice cream cake that I don't care for 🙄) . . But then tonight, he came home from work with a yellow cake mix and chocolate frosting!! My absolute fave!! How could I resist the dirty dishes and the clean up?!?! Lol!! 😂 . . This was too sweet and normally too sweet doesn't happen around here (from anyone I'll admit!) Plus he whisked it "vigorously" like the box said (new inside joke!) 🤣 . . . So while he was tilling the garden, which is by far the best birthday gift EVER btw!!! I frosted and did a little decorating so the kids could enjoy a piece before it's too late. They call this the Galaxy Cake. 😊 . . . I think all of the whisking vigorously helped make this the best birthday cake I've ever tasted!! Thanks Love!!

When I see photos like this one, it’s mind blowing how big my horses really are. From my point of view they don’t seem THAT large. Especially when they’re relaxed since their heads are lowered. But then I see this sort of image and remember that my Clydesdales’ heads are the size of my whole head, neck and torso combined. 🤯 .. If you’re new to this account, I’m Angela btw. And this is my horse, Finnegan.

I'm so happy to finally see this👏! Of the 10 broccoli plants I started from seed, only 2 managed to survive😬😖. Just 2 😒. I guess that's better than zero though👍💁. The spring broccoli harvest may be small, but I'm glad I'm at least going to get something out of it 🙌. Look at that size difference! 😳 Lucy (left) turned 5 weeks old yesterday, and No Name (right) will be 1 week old tomorrow. We still aren't 100% sure what kind of bantam Lucy is - all we know is that her dad is a short and stocky fella. I am almost positive that No Name is a brahma, maybe a buff. Only a few more weeks until our house is free of brooders and chicks!

Sometimes his energy and tenacity to start and do a project overwhelms me 😜 I mean I really just wanted to put some pants on but he was adamant to go NOW 😂 He made me this compost bin ❤️ I’ll relish in this moment because he and I have a HARD time. Homeschooling him is NEVER easy and many days we both shed tears. This is learning ❤️ I’ll enjoy this moment right here 👌🏼 No self condemnation. Mamas quit beating yourself up. Embrace today. You’re awesome and Jesus is enough.

In the past 3.5 weeks, I’ve lost TEN FREAKING POUNDS. I was stuck for months, in a cycle of loss and gain and I couldn’t figure out why. Until I did a workout program I LOVED, started to meditate and work on my mind, and really focus on what was on my plate....and then it all clicked. . . Working on one part of you is great, working on two is awesome.....but really diving deep and focusing on what YOU need at that exact moment to be your best self? That’s priceless. Give your body grace, feed it the good stuff and get moving, and you will get to where you want to be. I’m so excited about the progress and break throughs I have made this month, and I want YOU to feel the same way. That’s why I’m going to be giving you the lowdown on how I achieved these results in a private Facebook group, with prizes and options for every budget, all YOU have to do is show up there. I will be going live tomorrow to tell you all about it, so drop an emoji below or shoot me a message so I can get you added! 🦄💕

My favorite area at my house...besides my bed, lets be honest...is my garden, chicken and pig yard area! I can get lost for hours down there, picking weeds, watching the chickens, giving piggy belly rubs. This year I got real with my gardening skills which means I am good with flowering plants, terrible at vegetables. So I planted a few tomatoes, some herbs and the rest are flowers! I’ll post a little garden tour in my story. But I’d love to hear some of your favorite garden staples...whether veggies, flowers, herbs, I want to hear them!!?

Growing food is not a hobby for the impatient person. There is a lot of waiting that goes on. . Waiting for seeds to sprout. Waiting for plants to grow. Waiting for sun. Waiting for rain. Waiting for fruit to ripen. . If you like instant satisfaction, don't take up gardening as a hobby. . But if you still insist, grow radishes. They are the fastest of any of the garden veggies. Fresh seeds come up the next day. They sprout the next. You can even get a meal out of them a few days later by thinning the seedlings. Some varieties form the crunchy, glowing red orbs within 20 days. . The fastest of homegrown food you can get!

Peony season is wrapping up quickly here at the farm. A few triumphs and fails—my green halos I planted last fall never came up. So I’ll be replanting new crowns this autumn in hopes those sea-green blossoms will show themselves next spring. But I did get huge harvests of white and light pink shades this year. And my yellow peonies bloomed for the first time since planting. You win some, you lose some.

Via: @revolutionaryrootsfarm Learned something new recently. I assumed that bulls were always bigger than steers. But just a few days ago, I found out that’s not the case. When given the opportunity to continue to grow, steers can get massive. I’d just google it because the science is pretty interesting and I’m not knowledgeable enough on the subject to explain it correctly. 😂 The point of all this is that there’s a chance that Roberto will be bigger than his dad, Wesley. And possibly close to Butter and Scotch’s size!! Once a steer is trained and reaches a few years old, they are then considered an ox. Guys. THAT MEANS IM GONNA HAVE MY VERY OWN OX. 🐂 A frickin riding ox. My life is complete. 💀🤗💗. . . . . . . . . #minijersey #cutie #minijerseycow #homesteadersofinstagram #miniaturejersey #miniaturejerseycow #jerseycow #jerseyheifer #milkcow #familymilkcow #minimilkcow #milking #homesteadinglife #homestead #homesteading #countrylife #farmlife #ranchlife #cowboy #vaquero #homesteadersofamerica #homesteadinglife #ranching #calf #cowsofinstagram #jerseymilkcow #dairy #cows

Do you grow watermelons? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A full size, beautiful orchard is definitely in my future but it's not planted and producing yet so I love that there is some fruit like cantaloupe and watermelon that I can grow annually like vegetables. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I grow a bed of watermelons every year and my only problem is that I never have enough room in my refrigerator for all the watermelons!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I grow a small variety so it's somewhat easier to store. I've never tried to pickle the rind (that's on my to-do list), and aside from myself and the kids loving to eat them, they are great for the animals as well!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Just a beautiful and tasty plant to grow!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #growyourownfood #organicgardening #vegetablegardening #instgardners #ediblegarden #organicvegetablegardening #growingfood #lovegardening #veggiegarden #gardenlife #greenthumb #watermelon #watermelons #watermellon #growwatermelons #homesteadinglife #homestead #homesteadmama #homesteading #homesteader #homesteady #homesteadersofamerica #homesteadersofinstagram #homesteaders #homesteadlife #homesteads

Up at camp we cooked right over the fire with our cast iron and it makes me love it even more! We cooked some pretty messy meals and would just flip it over and let the stuff burn off, wipe it, and be good to go for the next meal. I also treated myself and got the square grate pan to be able to give more of a grilled texture for when we cook inside. Thinned out the Chard plants.... Spinach and a few kale... I'll be making a few dishes with this for the next few days but the rest I will freeze for winter... I like to do this at the very start of the season just in case I loose alot through pests or disease during the summer months... That way I know I'll have enough to cover the winter months... At least a start to the hoard.

Eva spotted some fairy houses today 🧚🏼‍♀️🍄 This isn’t terribly surprising since this trail was coined the “fairy path” a number of years ago, but it’s an exciting discovery all the same! The trail up to the barnyard encompasses this fairy path, and it’s a magical kind of way to start and end each day. It can be easy to forget that when hauling buckets of water or feed along it multiple times a day but the kids have a way of keeping the magic alive ❤️
