A little reality for your Monday. . . The way the fitness industry is set up these days, ‘quick’ is the way to get the fat loss, weight loss, bigger butt, strength gains, 6 pack abs...and every other ‘thing’ that you’re after. It’s a bait we fall for hook, line and sinker. So it’s no surprise we’d begin to think this. . . Why? Because fast is flashy. Because instant gratification is the name of this game. We want what we want and we want it now. . . I too have been drawn into it a time or two and you know what always ends up happening?After the ‘quickness’ ends, I am either stuck, right back at square one or worse off than before I jumped on whatever the quick plan I was on. Why? Because I am unable to sustain the ‘sprint’ pace required for most of these fast methods. . . There is a reason sprints are short. The physiological, mental and physical demands are too great to be sustained over a certain time frame (0-60 seconds), certainly not without diminishing, if not dire, effects. It’s the same way with quick ‘fitness’ fixes, they are short term. Without a plan to realistically sustain and maintain, can you guess what’s the likely outcome? You got it...the infamous crash and burn. . . So what do you do when you truly desire long term, sustainable, life long results? I woke up lonely today. For the third or fourth day in a row. Even though Jeff was asleep next to me & I know I have several people on whom I can call if I ever really need support. And yet. There it was. Loneliness. So I just let it be there. Carried out my morning coffee + tarot + writing ritual, went to the gym, cuddled some cats, helped Jeff paint the porch, sent a few emails, drank a smoothie, saw my therapist, aaaaaand still felt lonely. Loneliness is part of the human condition. Just like sadness & anxiety & frustration & anger & confusion & grief. And none of these feelings needs to be fixed. Sometimes they arise to tell us something. Sometimes they help us see something we're not seeing. But other times? They just ARE. Pema Chodron wrote a great article about loneliness you should read next time you feel lonely. There's a link to it in my bio. It's all about making peace with loneliness when it arises. I think you'll dig it. Life can be lonely. Being in your 30s can be EXTRA lonely. If you're 30ish, you know what I mean. Priorities shift. Friends marry or have kids or dive deeply into their careers (guilty over here on this one) & we all have a little less time for connecting. Its okay to feel lonely. Or sad. Or bored. Or anxious. Your feelings don't require fixing. They are just information. Get curious. With my new client working to internalize the various little cues for the barbell squat Most people neglect to think of the skill based aspect to strength training. Repetition is not only required for muscle stimulus but also good to decrease variability in the movement. Just with any skill you want to make sure you're able to do it consistently the same way. Practice is how the motor units learn to fire accurately and efficiently. A pitcher wouldn't want to throw a fastball and have a curveball come out.

Zucchini Noodles are definitely a great replacement for pasta. I enjoyed my dinner just as much as I do with regular pasta. The texter wasn't too far off and because it's mostly water it didn't have a strong taste. 🍝 So far I've been adding spinach and sweet potato to my diet.
