If you've been training and getting no where then listen in because without doubt you are missing one or more of these principles. 🏋️‍♂️🏋️‍♂️🏋️‍♂️ 1. PROGRESSIVE OVERLOAD - stop lifting the same damn weight for the same amount of reps. For best results I used the NSJ Training App to log my workouts. 2. PROTEIN INTAKE - Feed the muscles so they can grow, protein contains amino acids, the building blocks of muscles to recover after workouts. Without it you will not get the size or definition that you want and it will take longer to recover. Me and my clients use the NSJ Nutrition App to track protein intake. 3. CONSISTANCY - I dont mean train every day, I mean make training a regular part of your weekly routine. 3 days would be a good bench mark. LADIES LET'S TALK SMEAR Have you had one recently? Ask yourself when was your last? Are you due or over due? We make time for the gym, we make time for good food, we make time for #Health. But sometimes when it comes to a simple quick smear test life gets in the way that day, unfortunately something so quick and simple if ignored could also get in the way of life some day! We make time for having our car serviced or for our nct because we have to but our body is the most important vehicle we will ever drive and should be our most treasured vessel. It takes mere minutes but yet for so many of us sometimes we are not willing to give those minutes and for some will sacrifice much more time and much more than time. After a friend spoke openly about her heartbreak and experience I adulted up and booked mine, she was horrified to hear I'd brushed mine off and knew I was over due. Mortified when the nurse checked and it had been over 8yrs but notification put to the side, on the fridge, in the drawer and I'll get to that but I never did. Amazed when it was done in minutes, pain free, no awkwardness and minimal discomfort. Shell-shocked when the results came back accompanied with a follow up appointment. Surprised when I had to have a biopsy taken for further examination. Stunned this evening when I arrived home to find a letter from the HSE regarding further follow up appointment next week to undergo procedure, discuss results and treatment. Stupid to not have gone sooner. Lucky to have gone now. Disappointed for not being more responsible. Proud to have taken action when I did. Posting to hopefully remind even one other girl about that letter she received to book hers that she just didn't quite get around to. Had a new nurse today. She was so kind and informed me of everything she was going to do before she’d do it. Little did she know, I was a Nurse and I knew what she was going to be doing, so when she asked what I did for work we both laughed afterwards and she said “heck, I could’ve just had you place your own IV” and I was like “although I’m confident placing IV’s on others I’m not that confident doing it on myself lol. •• Receiving top notch treatment from healthcare professionals, like I do from these nurses, is not only helpful medically, but is personally rewarding as I get to interact and get to know them as people. Since I began coming here back in May 18’ I used to feel out of my element, and would stick to myself, minding my own business. Now I enjoy talking and sharing good laughs/conversations with the staff and fellow patients. It’s like a party without all the dancing and hype 😂. I appreciate the connections I’ve made so far and look forward to making more, whether they be socially, professionally, or medically. After 13 weeks of being in a gaining phase, this is where I’m currently at . Obvs look better with an old insta filter but I can’t post that and pretend that’s how I am . The picture was also taken after an upper body session . My thoughts; Happy with how I look —> meh Happy with how I feel —> meh Happy with how I’m progressing —> absolutely Happy with how much energy I have for sessions —> 100% . The difference between my diet and now I’m around 4-5lbs heavier . I’m stronger, more energetic and growing. There has been muscle gain but also fat and water gain. That just comes with what I do, which I don’t really want to change so have to accept that . I’m eating about 2,700 calories each week day then sometimes a little higher on weekends . My key indicators for progression is my strength gains and numbers being bettered and how my tops fit . My key indicators for fat gain is my weight and average calorie consumption. If my weight increases a fair bit I’ll look at my average calories and see whether it’s likely to be muscle or fat . Cardio; 1-2 power walks per week, not overly consistent with this, hence why I have to accept fat and water gain (one reason other is weekend food) . Trying to do Metcon Monday, done one yesterday but hadn’t the previous 3 . I’m just enjoying growing and getting stronger trying to add muscle and strength whilst enjoying myself . This is a fundamental thing, enjoy your process and it becomes easier . Also except some time after a diet to not be overly great because it’s take a while for your body to start functioning properly after it. A lot of people rebound because they go back to normal . You can’t do that without rebounding. Take it slow, have a plan and be patient. It’s only really the last 3-4 weeks of training that had felt like I’m gaining despite me being at it for 13! . Dieting stresses your body, massively so don’t always diet. Take prolonged time out to lower the stress and demand . One last thing; I’m not a bodybuilder I’m not a fitness model I’m not a crossfitter I’m not a power lifter I’m not a stereotypical personal trainer . I’m a dad who wants to be healthy, fit, able to move and look ok and help others do the same

✨ Happy Monday my darlings ✨ . . . I kicked this morning off with a brisk walk around the park with my dad 🌳 We were out for an hour, and it was hard work getting up the hill at the end 😅 I haven't been doing much exercise lately, so it was great to get my heart rate going. . . . It is a rare treat that I get to spend some 1-on-1 time with my dad because he is always working! He is my number 1 inspiration for working hard for what you want in life.
