Spent the past few days with my husband and his colleagues in the Windy City. This was my first trip to Chicago (airport doesn’t really count 😊) and I can’t believe I haven’t been to this amazing city sooner. Chicago is beautiful! Would I want to go in the dead of winter? Um, no. But, this is the perfect time of year to go. It was quick trip, so another visit will definitely be in order. #chicagosunset . . . . #Iamatraveler #natgeo #natgeoyourshot #exploreeverything #patagonia #ig_today #girlswhotravel #athomeintheworld #headed_elsewhere #chicago #windycity

Last week while working on a photography tutorial I asked you all to weigh in on which image you liked and why! And oh boy was I surprised on the results. Overwhelmingly the first image was the winner! And you wanna know the most common reasons I got for this 1️⃣ this is perfection in its messiness - life is messy and crazy 2️⃣the contrast of light and shadow just like how we are 3️⃣first because it shows beauty in the imperfections 4️⃣the leaves look like they are placed on purpose (which it was not because those florals are quite delicate 😊) but I like that you did not clean it up and make it real 5️⃣second is too perfect - why? 6️⃣second looks like a painting or a fake where as first looks like my life This is the gist of what you guys said! And I have to admit I loved reading these. My first reaction was to include the second in my tutorial but you are right! Let’s drop this facade of perfection. Why do all images have to be prefect? Even the most established photographers and creatives are not always 100% perfect in their work! Being imperfect makes you relatable. Enough of a perfect feed where everything is spot on. These colors are not what or how I photograph but giving myself permission to experiment and try out different things is fun and gets me out of a creative funk! I would love to know which one you like and why? And if your answers are different, that totally okay - be you!

Having camped in a few different countries over the past few years, I have to say, backcountry camping in India is something else - a camp chef is almost always on hand and the smell of fresh mountain cuisine on a open flame is beyond delicious. Add to that a cup of lemon black tea and I never want to go back home! :). Are you a camper and if so, what's your favorite meal outdoors?

Not all paths are straight paved roads :) Sometimes you get to a point where you have no path to walk on, so create your own path, up and down the mountains, through the trees and into the forest - cause what's on the other side is quite magical indeed. Sometimes I wish I lived in the time of the great explorers and got to see first hand the way they found their way around - the pure thrill of explorations and going where there is no path!

We reached our campsite quite early in the morning and were eager to explore the alpine meadows and perhaps even make it to the summit where there is a beautiful alpine lake. But our trek guide was a little worried of the weather as it was supposed to rain and hail during the day. So instead, we sat by the camp kitchen drinking copious amounts of lemon tea - a staple in the mountains because it gives you energy especially in higher altitudes. I turned around to see one of our guides watching the mountain pass and the valley below for the weather to come rolling in. That path you see behind him, that was the path we took to get to base camp! About an hour after this was taken, a thick fog rolled in and we were grounded for the night because of really low visibility. Such adventures are incredible and a fantastic experience for city dwellers like us but for the local guides, safety comes first and also the belief that the will of the mountain gods always prevail! Going to try again in November to visit that alpine meadow and that alpine lake!😄

Why do we wait until one day to get that inspired project done? Why do we wait until one day to take that trip you have always wanted to? The earth is here to celebrate the freedom of life moving from your very veins you are a divine representation of God there is not another you look into the mirror celebrate your existence Celebrate your life Celebrate the love that pours from your heart the answers you seek are within the love you desire is within let it flow from the consistent stream of your heart you are here to love you are here to live free. This week has been one for the crazies. A lot of things that should have gone right went the exact opposite and went terribly wrong. Things that were in the pipeline for months, things that just flipped a complete 360 and things that came out of the blue. Taught me a lot about expectations! Taught me a lot about life and taught me ever more about the importance of having people around who can help you. 😯 Sometimes it is just to say 'its okay, this too shall pass', and sometimes it is to say 'I got this...I am going to help you', and sometimes it is just to say 'lets have ice cream for dinner and that will make everything okay'....These are all what people who matter to me said to cheer me up. 😁 So here I am on a Friday afternoon back at it again and waiting for the sunshine and a weekend to just process everything and enjoy my life. Because at the end of the day that's all that matters. And I hope you do the same. Life can get insane but stop to enjoy the good. 💃 Someone once said, when all hell breaks loose, look for the helpers...they are always around!

Sunday morning strolls are the perfect way to get to know the locals and get a glimpse of their lives. A trip that literally started with the question 'where do I want to go next?' ended up being one for the books. No agenda, no plan and actually no reservations until we landed in the country. We really played it brave especially since we were traveling with two kids and did not speak a word of the language. 😃 Completely atypical of me. Generally I like being in control - knowing where I am going and what I am doing at least 48hours in advance. But you know what, I quite liked this ambiguous and spur of the moment plan. While it might not work for everyone and every situation, I would love to do this more often. 🙌 What about you? Have you ever taken a spur of the moment trip with no real agenda or plan in mind? How did it go? And any guesses on where this is or where we went ;)

Did someone say Spring photoshoots? Not quite yet here in Chicago but I cannot wait for blooming trees, large floppy hats and my favorite human to practice on. Next time I will try harder to get her to look at the camera. Is it just me or do other moms find it really hard to photograph their own kids!?? Bribery only works for so long, time limits mean nothing and mood swings are worse for teens. But sometimes getting her to style, plan and edit the photos seems to do the trick ;)

Someone asked me the other day what camera bag do I use and I responded almost automatically, REI. I had to chuckle when she said, 'Oh I did not know REI made camera bags'!! I don't own a camera bag. I either use a over the shoulder bag from (you-guessed-it) REI or a hiking day pack seen here, from the same brand. And if I ask really nicely, after a 10 mile hike, hubby will hold the bag for me - LOL I have never felt the need to own a traditional, typical camera bag and am curious if others are the same? Or do share if you have a camera bag you like that works great for outdoor adventures.

Quiet moments hiking in Custer State Park and we came across this view. The air was already think with smoke from the raging forest fires nearby and while it added this glow to the scene, I could not help wonder at all the destruction of life, cattle and forest that had been destroyed. A paradox indeed - should we marvel at the scene or feel sorrowful at the destruction?

Those early morning prayers at Indian temples are something else. The music, the devotion and the energy in the air can be quite electrifying! I was using my trusted 24-70mm lens here and while it was a bit cramped, I loved the versatility it gave me to zoom out and capture some of the environment as well as the people. I know we all have favorite gear that is our go-to, what's yours?

One of the first 'rules' they teach you in landscape photography is to add a human element so that viewers can get a sense of scale when looking at landscapes and people in the same frame. ⛰️ Me, I like to include humans to show just how better than us mother nature truly is...bigger, bolder, beautiful and resilient! 😉

The past few days have been rough...rough because of self-imposed deadlines, client proposals and just trying to get by. The flip-flop weather is also not helping. It's like mother nature too cannot make up her mind if she wants to hold on to winter or just left spring come in early. I sure wish I were here today! Out in the wilderness, just me and the birds and the crisp rocky mountain air. On a side note, I would be an epic fail as an influencer :) - camping gear, hammock and extra food always wins over cute hiking boots, beanies and adventure hats! - LOL What is the one thing you have to have on any vacation? Please don't say beanies cause I would be mortified!

There are several nomadic tribes that call these mountains home. The fact that they along with their livestock traverse landscapes at 12K to 14K feet elevation with such ease and grace is beyond comprehension! And here we were, stopping every hour just to step out of the car, guzzle down boat loads of water and try to get acclimated to the altitude. So much for thinking that we were in good shape for outdoor adventure!

If you travel with me, be prepared to fight for the passenger seat up front, a spot with a window and stopping every few hours because I saw something that looked really interesting. I don't consider myself a street photographer rather a travel photographer. I much rather engage with my subjects, make a connection and have an experience that I can remember. But every once in a while, I come across a scene that is too perfect to pass off and disturb by asking permission and engaging with the subjects. Early morning card games in Varanasi while waiting for the boat riders to come down to the ghats and for business to start. Maybe I should try my hand at street photography - being an outsider looking in - LOL - what do you think? will I be successful?

Yesterday I shared a little bit about my adventures in Leh - the land of dramatic landscapes, highest mountain passes in the world! and full of culture and heritage. But perhaps one of the most important and memorable experiences was that immense sense of pride for my home country. Ladakh shares a border with China and Pakistan and there is a lot of army presence in the region. Watching the Indian soldiers live and work in such extreme conditions gave me such a sense of gratitude. There was so much patriotism in the air - from the Indian flags flying high in the arid deserts to fluttering on cars and motorbikes along Ladakh's roadways. Incredible India seems extremely fitting and appropriate way to describe home! p.s> the IG live should be on for another 8 hours so catch it if you can :)

I remember the exact moment I took this photo. @tridivauttarakhand and I were walking around in Vrindavan (a holy town in India) - a path of over 12 km - we had been walking since 5.00am barefoot and the heat and exhaustion was getting to me. I did not think I could complete the entire 12 km and felt like I was letting myself down - I started to second guess myself on whether this was really a good idea - the temps were quite high, the sun was beating down strong and my feet were dirty, tired and just about to give way under me. I heard him before I saw him - he was reading what I could only guess was the gita and chanting. I dont know if he saw me and I did not want to disturb him but those vibrations gave me energy to continue on and finish part of the parikrama (circumventing of the mountain)

We all have that one travel buddy who makes everything right. The right attitude, the right demeanor and the sweetest smile that lights up the room every time. Those times when you feel so tired and so exhausted that all you want to do is sleep...but this person convinces you to put on those hiking boots, grab the binoculars and hit the trail! 😘 Who's your favorite travel buddy? Mine is this little munchkin here...a bit older now but has that same enthusiasm as he did when we hiked in Glacier National Park! He was trying to spot the bear that we heard was walking along this path...while mom was hyperventilating because the bear spray was back in the tent!! 😂
