We didn’t always get along. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ We didn’t always like each other. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I remember a six year span in my life where it was really rough. I was a rebellious teenager and my dad was still trying to protect his little girl. ⁣Thank goodness we had my mom as our mediator! ⁣ ⁣⁣ We said things and did things that we regret, and at the time, it felt like we were being torn into two opposite directions.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ But if we hadn’t had those experiences and worked through them, we wouldn’t be the best friends we are now.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I may have been stubborn and mouthy. I’m sure I rolled my eyes a zillion times and said things under my breath that should have ended with a bar of soap in my mouth, but those moments changed me and eventually helped me realize what kind of father I wanted for my children. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Thank you, Dad, for still loving me when I screwed up and for having faith when we both weren’t sure what the next day held. Most importantly, thank you for showing me what a real father looks like and for being a role model to me, Joe, and your grandchildren. I’m missing some more fats & broccoli 🥦 here but this meal was so freakin yum & a nice treat as I’m away from home! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ korean spicy chili chicken + jasmine rice + lots of scallions 👅⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ when I began eliminating foods in order to heal gut issues, I was SO overwhelmed. I felt so lost & confused when it came to food. It stressed me out & took away all the joy I got from food. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ taking a few steps back, I realized how much food played an emotional comfort role in my life especially growing up. there is no shame in this at all - but there were plenty of nights where my family and I gathered in front of the TV to eat our dinner quickly and unmindfully. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I noticed how I carried these habits into adulthood - curling up on the couch with a snack or entire meal and not appreciating where my food came from & all the work it took to get in front of me 🥘 doing this also impacted my food choices because I usually wanted something “comforting”. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Doing the inner work is so imperative to the healing process. Digging deep and finding out why you behave a certain way on a regular basis can help you better understand your body & its needs! A GP friend asked me whether I’d looked into the low FODMAP diet before so I started to google. An online Mum friend had been through the diet too so she sent me a book which was really useful. I also came across @the.ibsdietitian on here. I asked her several questions and also had a free phone consultation with one of her dieticians. I decided to join her Take Control Programme. I worked through all the information on the programme and asked Kirsten a million questions until I felt I’d got my head around it! I started the low FODMAP diet at the beginning of April and have been on it since. I have seen definite improvement in my symptoms but not to the extent that I did on the sugar free diet. I have also found myself reacting to none FODMAP foods which is complicating things for me. I went back to my doctor who ran more bloods and took a stool sample, all of which came back clear. My coeliac test wouldn’t have been accurate though with me having stopped eating wheat several weeks before. The doctor also gave me amitrypline to try. It definitely stopped me having D but I felt like an absolute zombie for 2 weeks. I have small children so just couldn’t carry on and stopped it. He also referred me to an NHS dietician who I’m seeing on Tuesday! I spoke to another doctor to ask about stopping the amitrypline and she prescribed me Mebeverine. I’ve not actually tried that yet though. I want to manage my symptoms with diet if possible so I wanted some time where I could see what my body was doing. So right now I’m basically still on the elimination phase. I’ve failed wheat twice (sourdough and potato cakes) and lactose once (natural yoghurt). I have managed a GF pizza with a low amount of garlic purée in though! I’m looking forward to a one to one appointment now I’ve gathered so much information and really hope they can give me some advice 🤞🏻🤞🏻

I wanted to try some I kvass flavors and this combo sounded so good while I was whipping it up. And the ferment went well BUT honestly this flavor was not for me. The carrot added some type of depth I'm not totally a fan of. I've still been drinking it with a hefty squeeze of fresh lemon juice but might not do this combo again! 😂

So I did some food allergy/sensitivity testing with my practitioner and we discovered a long list of food sensitivities. It’s fascinating and I wasn’t disappointed or overwhelmed mostly because I want to get my gut health as sorted as possible. Plus she said that this is temporary and we can heal these issues. Once I’m back from an upcoming trip I’ll share the food plan I’ll be doing and how I’ll be cycling through my higher sensitivity foods to improve my gut health. Very grateful to have found people who can help me get better! And I am not very grateful for the awful, rude GI doctor that treated me like I was crazy. Give me a 🙌🏻 if you love stir fry rice! . This is one of my favorite meals because it requires very minimal effort. You basically dump two frozen bags of veggies in a pan and scramble some eggs and voila 🤩🙌🏻 . Ingredients:🥕🥚🥕🥚🥕🥚🥕 4 eggs 1 12 ounce bag of cauliflower rice 1 10 ounce bag of peas and carrot mixture 1 Tbsp of sesame oil 1-2 Tbsp of soy sauce . I was super picky with food when I was a little girl and used to hate it when my dad would ask me try weird foods. He‘d tell me “Just try. If you like it, good! And if you don’t, at least you know. Gastroparesis, or delayed gastric emptying, is a condition in which the stomach empties itself of food at a slowed rate. This can be caused by a variety of medical conditions, but is commonly experienced by those who have lost a significant amount of weight. During periods of food restriction, the body conserves the energy that would be needed to power the digestive peristaltic movement of the stomach in order to survive. Roosevelt summed it up when he said “Comparison is the thief of joy” so here’s some thoughts for comparison.... _________________________ 👩🏻‍🍳 its true, I drink herbal teas.... but i also drink red wine, beer and whisky 🥃 👩🏻‍🍳 its true, we have nutritionally dense smoothie bowls for breakfast.... but we also eat cornflakes and toast 🍲 👩🏻‍🍳its true, we cook with vegetables and make humous .... but we also eat beans on toast 🍞 👩🏻‍🍳 its true, I do exercise... but I also binge watch box sets 📺 👩🏻‍🍳 its true, I like to cook healthy food.... but I also order takeaway curries with extra popadoms 🍛 👩🏻‍🍳 Its true, I don’t eat refined sugar, very little gluten and dairy but I have been known to eat all of those in one sitting! ___________________ - Health is not about perfection its about owning your life and making choices that are right for you, your family and mental wellbeing. - Praise and reward your efforts, make small but consistent changes and marvel in the good that you do.
