I love this quote! I see this so often in my work and I also experienced it myself. #goodmorning 😃 I hope you have had an amazing weekend. Throwing it back to this grilled lemon chicken with quinoa, steamed broccoli, half an avocado and a baked Parmesan tomato. I squeezed extra lemon on the chicken and broccoli for some extra tang. It was the most delicious dinner. I hope you have a great night. . . 🍋🍗 Grilled Lemon Chicken 1 lb. boneless chicken breast Juice of 1 lemon 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. ground black pepper 1/4 tsp. garlic powder Add lemon juice, olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic powder to a shallow bowl. Beat vigorously with a fork to combine into a dressing. Cut each breast in half to make 4 even pieces about 1/2 inch thick. Add the chicken to the dressing and let marinate for at least 20 mins. flipping half way through. Grill 5-7 minutes each side or bake on 400F for 25-30 mins. flipping half way through or until golden brown. . . 🍅🧀 Parmesan Tomato. Cut a large tomato in half, place each half onto baking sheet cut side up. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, then top with bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese. We are part way through a reno in our kitchen, with five of us in the house there is a sense of accomplishment when I can see the majority of my 10' of counter relatively clutter free. As I write this post, my breath is pretty stank from a garlicky dish I had tonight. Today is International 12-hour Fresh Breath Day 🙅🏻‍♀️ . . Day 346: Holistic Living 365 HALITOSIS . . Adding Prebiotics in Every Day Food Choices – Honey has been a popular remedy for digestive problems for centuries. I was interested to know whether there was any science to support the health benefits of honey on the gut, so I recently attended a presentation by research scientist and microbiologist Dr Nural Cokcetin at the ithree institute @utsscience Dr Cokcetin is focusing on understanding the antibacterial and prebiotic effects of honey. She is also investigating the capacity of Australian honey to promote and restore a healthy gut. In some of her early research Dr Cokcetin looked at how eating honey altered the gut balance of healthy people and found that some Australian honeys have significant promise as a prebiotic. Yep, this Momma looks like she’s had a long day...because she has! #readyforbed 😴 I was up at 5:45am and went to a wonderful BNI meeting from 7:15-9am. 💗 I headed straight to Camp Gladiator for a 9:30-10:30 Camp where I got my booty kicked (but not me knee 😉). I’m sure my quads will feel it tomorrow! 💪 I headed to a friends house about 30 minutes away to pick up donations for a friend of a friend, then dropped them off at my friend’s house in Seminole.👚👖 Got home. Got cleaned up. Drank a Lean protein shake for lunch (because I didn’t feel like making anything else) and scheduled some upcoming 1:1 networking meetings with my new BNI friends. ☕️ Next, I headed to pick up my boy from school. Dinner tonight was paleo chicken tenders, sautéed mushrooms & asparagus, @farmhouseculture dill kraut, and the ⭐️star⭐️ of the show: @paleomg creamy garlic potatoes 🥔 • I chopped the potatoes, & tossed them in a bowl with @chosenfoods avocado oil, sea salt, dried parsley, ground mustard, celery seed (recipe calls for celery salt but I didn’t have any), garlic powder, pepper, & onion salt. Then I baked the potatoes at 425 for 30 minutes, then broiled them on high for 4 minutes to get them extra crispy. With 14 yrs of clinical experience as a UK MD I believe gut health is key to overall health, so I will share some fun facts about gut health: 🌱🌱🌱 👶Research now shows the gut #microbiome to be involved in many functions from digestion, brain health, metabolic health to mental health 🌱We know that 70-80% of the immune system resides in the gut & an inflamed gut can lead to symptoms elsewhere in the body (eg #eczema , #allergies , #headaches ) 👶Your baby's gut microbiome is 'set' at ~ 2 yrs of age - what you do before & during the 1st 2 yrs of life is vitally important in the formation of a healthy microbiome 🌱A mother's vaginal flora (ie the living bacteria) changes in last trimester to reflect the beneficial bacteria that a baby needs for a healthy microbiome 👶During vaginal delivery, baby is inoculated w/ bacteria as it passes through birth canal. This little boy had been flare free for multiple months in a row. HAD BEEN. While we were all fighting stomach bugs and colds and what not there were about three or four days that he missed his probiotic. I felt so bad a didn’t really think it would be that big of a deal so I didn’t push it. Let me tell you that I completely regret that decision! That poor little boy had one of the worst flares he has had in MONTHS! I couldn’t figure out what he was getting into to cause this since we literally have nothing in the house that contains his allergens. Then it hit me. The decrease in flares and dry patches wasn’t due to being really good about reading labels or the fact that maybe he was beginning to grow out of his allergies like I hoped. It was due to his GUT HEALTH. I’m about to head off to my work Christmas party and like all social situations with alcohol, I have to decide what’s best for me and if I’m going to take on the social pressures to drink or not. . . I’m not sure what it’s like in your country but Australia has a missive drinking culture and the truth is I just don’t really enjoy drinking anymore. . . I might have a glass every now and then, but truth be told it actually sedates me and there’s too higher risk that I’ll wake up feeling crap for days and that just pisses me off because I’m so accustom to feeling good. . . How did I get a #humpday from a #upperbodyworkout ?! 🍑 All I know is that the #vtaper is coming along slowly but surely as my #guthealth has improved • I needed a bit of a reset as I began to suffer from inflammation. I thrive on a #lowFODMAP diet. That’s why I started a FB page to share info for those who might be struggling with similar #gutissues. But it’s hard to completely avoid onions and garlic. I’ve allowed it to slide over several months simply because I’m from #LongIslandNY and grew up on #italianfood. So I’ve indulged in a lil’ ravioli here, some gnocchi there, and of course pizza semi-regularly and it caught up to me. • Not surprisingly, eliminating dairy and bread for the time being has resulted in the calmest, flattest belly I’ve had in a while. And I’ve had more energy for my workouts and wake up refreshed. Eventually I will reintroduce certain foods but I am liking what I see (and feel) so far. It’s important to get to know your own body - as delicious as your favorite food might be, it may not be the best for fueling your #goals... or just getting up in the morning! 🌿 My FOOD PHILOSOPHY (*MY*, the key word here): stick to WHOLE FOODS, unprocessed and unrefined (avoid preservatives, additives, artificial ingredients) eat mostly PLANTS (cooked, they are easier to digest that way) consume high quality PROTEINS (plant-based or free range/grass fed/organic meats and poultry) don’t rely too heavily on GRAINS, but when you do partake, sprouted is the best for gut health (there is a link between grains and autoimmune thyroid disease, thyroid disease runs in my family) high quality FATS (cold-processed, extra virgin oils, whole food plant sources) limit fried foods, oils become damaged and reactive LIMIT processed SUGAR (i use dates, honey, maple syrup in baked goods and treats); but when you’re enjoying yourself, ENJOY YOURSELF! DAIRY, a treat for me when I’m in social situations or out to dinner (2-3 times per month) AVOID that which you have serious adverse reactions to (for me that’s eggs, wheat & soy); I get severe nausea, acid reflux, bloating, brain fog, mood changes, fatigue, amongst other things; it’s best for me to avoid these altogether —— find what works for you. this is what works for me. we are all different. most importantly, NEVER EVER feel guilty about your choices. you have one life and do what makes YOU feel good. NOT what others tell you to do. this way of eating has allowed me to feel my best and be mindful of what I’m putting into my body.

Probiotics, I've seriously tried them all. From fancy pants refrigerated ones, to liquid concoctions, to prescriptions,and everything in between. Sugar can show up in so many different forms SUGAR and IT'S HIDDEN FORMS Label, label on the "item" tell me... I cannot emphasize enough how important is to read labels. Especially pay attention to sugars...it can be hidden under so many names. We literally have to be food detectives. Here are the most common varieties: 1. dextrose 2. fructose 3. fruit juice concentrate 4. glucose 5. invert sugar 6. maltose 7.syrup 8.corn syrup 9.high fructose corn syrup 10. lactose 11. raw sugar 12. sucrose 13.cane sugar 14. evaporated cane juice 15. malt syrup By masking under different names in the same product manufacturer can drop the "added sugar" content, so it doesn't look so bad. Also, many times they are placed low on the label, so we may think the amount of sugar is not that high (less important). What can we do? EDUCATE OURSELVES and READ LABELS!!! Do you read labels? 4 months ago this guy was just a little piglet and now he is much bigger! Every changes but sometimes we don’t notice the changes unless we capture the moments with video and photos. I feel this way about progressing in therapy this is why I work hard to find ways to capture my clients growth through customized accountability tracking. Now, my services are available to a limited number of non clients in 2019. It’s going to be a game changer in seeing progress in our thinking, behaviors, and habits. Who’s in?

Oh man guys. The last 10 days have been nuts, hence the absence here. . Today was the first shoot of 4 over the next 3 days. Plus the @womenofimpact Christmas party. Plus another shoot on Monday. Plus watching my cat pee all day. It’s a lot. When I have a lot going on, the first thing to go is Instagram. And honestly, I didn’t hate the time off. We all spend too much time on here, am I right? . But I have to say, I missed taking photos of my food and sharing some of my favorite recipes with y’all. Like this one. My Fall smoothie bowl - it’s the bestest! Deets below, however measurements are VERY loose. . -1 1/2 cup steamed/frozen butternut squash -1/2 cup steamed/frozen cauliflower -1/3 cup frozen apple (I use gala, but you do you) -1/3 cup full fat coconut milk -1/3 cup water (depending on how thick you like your smoothie. I like mine like ice cream, so I add just enough liquid for it to blend) -1/4 cup @nuzest_usa ‘just natural’ protein -1 scoop @vitalproteins collagen -1 Tbsp ground flax -1 tsp maca -cacao nibs and chopped brazil nuts to top! . Let’s talk about the ketogenic diet for a minute. It’s been getting all of the hype for a while now! ✨ . It’s simple to follow- omit all carbohydrates. Simple enough for most individuals to understand right? ✨ . 2. Eat all of the fat- did you say bacon, eggs and avocado? Ha.... not a bad deal... I knew these low fat people were wrong all along! ✨ . 3. Oh wow.. it’s been one week and I’ve lost 5b!! I just found the secret. I’m going to do this for the rest of my life! ✨ . 4.
