Day 2 of no coffee and the only thing that’s getting me to the gym is new gym clothes. 😆 I HAVE TO give up coffee to heal my #gut 🖤I’m also under high levels of stress right now, so I don’t need the increase in cortisol that coffee provides. My body is already making enough! . . . Anyone else would rather buy gym clothes than regular clothes? 🙋🏼‍♀️ I go to the dressing room to try on all kinds of clothes. TRUTHBOMB! The health of our gut is everything. What you eat effects so much more than what you weigh, or how much body fat you have. We are born with a large portion of our microbiome determined already through birth, breastfeeding, and our initial environment growing up. It is said that the healthiest microbiome stems from the combination of a vaginal birth (versus c-section), being breast-fed, and growing up being exposed to many bacteria (versus a very sterile environment). BUT, there are things that can heavily influence the health of the microbiome, for better, and for worse. . Antibiotics and antacids can destroy the good bacteria in the gut, and it can take up to two years to regenerate what is lost in just one round of these antibiotics/prescriptions. The food we eat also plays a huge role and each food contributes to the health of good bacteria, or feeds the bad bacteria. And when this gets out of balance it is know as gut-dysbiosis. . There is so much research being done in this area and it is just the beginning. 🥗Kale, Avocado, Pinenut & Apple Salad with Creamy Dressing🥗 10 Ingredients ——————————— 2 tablespoons parsley (chopped) 30 grams honey (for dressing) 80 grams onion (red) 1 teaspoon garlic, crushed (for dressing) 200 grams avocado 100 grams tahini 150 grams pine nuts (toasted) 200 grams apple (green) 200 grams kale 1⁄2 teaspoon mustard (for dressing) 🥗 Instructions Dry roast the pine nuts until golden. Set aside. Remove stems from kale and slice leaves into ribbons. Slice the red onion finely and cut the apples into very thin matchsticks. Cut the avocado into small cubes. Ten minutes before serving, place the kale and onions into a mixing bowl and massage 2T of dressing in to the leaves to soften the kale and infuse the flavour. Leave to sit for 10 minutes before adding the apples, pine nuts, avocado and parsley and tossing gently to combine. Arrange in bowls and drizzle with remaining dressing. Dressing: 100g tahini or nut butter 30g raw honey 1/2 tsp mustard - mild english 1 tsp garlic, crushed 75ml apple cider vinegar 2 tsp salt 100ml oil Place all ingredients except oil into a bowl and whisk to combine. Slowly drizzle the oil in to the bowl whilst continuously whisking. Had a funny sort of day, not in the mood to cook, so a taste plate. White radish sliced. Leaves of the radish chopped. Tomatoes, roasted garlic,Kefir sprinkled with Harrisa, Avocado with roughly chopped parsley hard boiled eggs, a couple of Jalapeños, and a squirt of Fig Glaze, naughty but nice 🤣Scoffed down with a few water biscuits with butter on them! Fermented foods are all the rage, and for good reason. Eating a variety of fermented foods is a cost effective way to add good bacteria to your system which aids in digestion and boosts immunity. I recently made this beet kvass recipe and it’s super easy! -You’ll need 2 large mason jars. 2 or three medium sized organic beets. 1 TBSP salt. 1/4 cup of sauerkraut juice or whey (you can sub more salt for this but it takes a bit longer to ferment). Filtered water. -Peel the beets and chop into small pieces. Put equal amounts in each mason jar. -Split the salt and kraut between the masons jars. And fill with filtered water. -Cover and let sit on your counter for a couple days. Refrigerate and enjoy! **One thing that happened with my first batch is that I didn’t peel my beets and I used cheese cloth instead of jar lids. This caused a layer of yeast that looked like mold to grown on top. Don’t be alarmed if you see this, skim it off the top and it’s fine. So, if you know anything about me at all, you know I have learned SO MUCH about gut health in the past 4 years. Over the past 2 months, I have been having histamine reactions, much like I had to corn years ago... swollen eyes every single morning. I had this food sensitivity test done at LifeTime a couple weeks ago, and just had a phone consultation with a registered dietitian to go over an action plan. She LOVED that I have already been working on my gut health, and is fully behind my Plexus products, so my action plan is to eliminate a couple of foods for 2 months, add in some digestive enzymes (short term), and L-glutamine for a boost in digestive health. It is always good to have the reassurance that I am taking the best supplements for my body to help it heal and work properly! Check out this awesome MUD bowl by @kikiswholelife ・ ・ ・ Practicing mindfulness when eating is not something I’ve always done. Hence *practicing*. Growing up, I never looked at ingredient lists. I didn’t know I was consuming HFCS among many other crappy ingredients on a daily basis up until 2 years ago. . I never had a sweet tooth until college... can you believe it?! I hated cakes of all kinds - ice cream cake, cupcakes, especially frosting. I also hated chocolate 🙀 When I discovered I had serious health issues I knew I had change my eating habits and choices. I looked at ingredient labels and found that most frozen desserts still had refined sugar... until I found @eatmudco ! Sweetened with organic dates 🤤 & very minimal ingredients such as cashews and coconut milk as their base for all flavors including coffee, vanilla & chocolate! I had a meeting with a client today & she told me she was diagnosed with Graves Disease 6 years ago. When she asked her doctor why she had it, they answered, “It just happens, it’s one of those things”. That was The only answer she was given. They then handed her medication & said take this. That was her answer. They didn’t tell her to avoid any foods that could have potentially caused the disease or even mention that diet was a factor. This too happened to me when I was diagnosed with Graves back in 1999. 🌟NO!!!! A sickness of any kind does not ‘just happen’ it comes from somewhere & there is ALWAYS a root cause & that will be your gut. There are a number factors that cause autoimmune conditions as well as other disease & skin problems but the biggest is your gut health & let’s not forget stress neither. Chronic stress can push our bodies to rapidly age and cause a host of problems. I’ve written about this all in my book 📚 Beauty and THE GUT. 🌟If you ever go to the doctor and you ask why you have what you have they will not give you an answer because they simply do not know. They haven’t been trained in nutrition, they are trained in medicine and medication DOES NOT get the to the root cause of your concern, it only hides symptoms & usually makes you worse long term. 🌟To heal you MUST heal your gut & you MUST change your diet and find ways to manage stress also. Back from my holidays....but I have one question- where has the wonderful sunny weather gone?! ☹️🌞 . When the sun is out I crave light, fresh, seasonal produce and move away from heavier, oiler and richer meals 🥗 . This pattern is actually in-build in our physiology as we would only have access to certain foods in the different seasons. Plus we would use certain food as tools (or ‘medicine’ #foodismedicine 🙃) to heat up o cool down our body depending on the climate 🌸🌞🍂❄️ . Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) often discusses the energetics of food and how they can have cooling or heating properties in the body and how this can affect different health conditions❄️🔥 . For example, in a condition such as infertility or amenorrhea (lack of periods) which are both primarily ‘cold’ conditions, practitioners may promote warming foods such as root vegetables, healthy fats and red meat 🥩🥕 . A condition like acid reflux (think hot and irritating 😠) an emphasis is put on cooling, soothing foods such as fruit, cucumber, aloe vera and marshmallow root! These people should stay away from spicy, acidic or highly fatty foods 💦 . Interesting right?? ☺️

He looks good in a suit. He’s always ready for an adventure. He’s definitely the better cook in the family, but I’m getting there. He loves watching Queer Eye with me and is figuring out how to include the French tuck in his style. He’s my favorite cuddle buddy and brings me flowers weekly knowing that I love fresh flowers in my home. - I am over the top organized. Everything has its place in our home. I’m in love with learning about nutrition and learned that I never really like food because I’m terrible at taking time for myself or doing things for myself. I want to teach others about healing their bodies the way I’ve been trying to heal mine and showing what a life of adventure can look like. I love getting dressed up but still rock a T and hiking pants. Because I’m always up for an adventure in the mountains, especially if it’s with him. - Together, we adventure, we cook, we snuggle up with Netflix and we take this married life one day at a time. Appreciating every second of it, even the seconds where we might be less than friendly.

Hopping on that sweet potato toast 🚂 not because I don’t love regular toast (because I do) but because we were going away this weekend and I wanted to use up the produce I had in the house. . . So here it is, even if you’ve seen it before, sweet potato toast 3 ways (✌🏼 savory, 👆🏼 sweet): avocado with sliced cucumber, red pepper flakes, & vegan chipotle mayo dressing (vegan mayo, hot water, chipotle peppers blended); @wildbrine red cabbage & beet sauerkraut (excellent source of probiotics, I’ve been trying to include fermented foods at least once a day to help with digestion), soft boiled egg; & almond butter with blueberries & chia seeds. Coconut Milk - one of the best milk substitutes. 🥛 Full of good fat, it works amazingly on skin, hair & fatloss. Homemade bagels have my heart. However, many of our diabetic friends know that bagels can present a challenge when trying to manage blood sugar levels. Bagels are adorable, but they can cause blood sugar to skyrocket and then crash, like a Six Flags rollercoaster🎢 We want all of our friends to enjoy the soft doughy bite of a delicious bagel, so we’ve got some grainless nutty bagels up for grabs. Filled with healthy-fats, almond and coconut flours keep blood sugar stable like a train steady on its tracks. So get baking and enjoy the cozy chew of your very own homemade bagel ❤️⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Nutty Bagels ⁣ 1.5 cups blanched almond flour⁣ 3 tbsp coconut flour⁣ 5 eggs⁣ 1 tsp baking soda⁣ 1/4 tsp salt⁣ 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar⁣ Poopy seeds, for garnish⁣ ⁣ Pulse all ingredients in food processor until well combined. Pour into resealable bag and cut hole at corner. “Pipe” donut shape onto baking sheet. Sprinkle with poppy seeds. Bake at 350°F for 25 mins. ⁣
