Luna is such a bully! She leaves her feed bucket to go and shove Coco away from hers, but then runs back to her own so Coco can’t get to that one either. Normally I tie Luna to the fence when she’s eating so she can’t do this but this morning with the rain I just didn’t have time. Sorry Coco. . . . . . #worms #wormfarm #compost #backyardpoultry #backyardchickens #fresheggs #exbatteryhens #urbangoats #backyardgoats #urbanfarm #urbanhomestead #microfarm #growyourownfood #growfoodnotlawns #organic #freerange #suburbanhomestead #nigeriandwarfgoat #nubiangoats #mininubian #sisters

The garden in mid-September (as seen from my porch roof). Lots of flopping over and blocked pathways but it’s still producing. The first photo is the new garden beds as of this year-it was all grass last year. Swipe ➡️ to see: My front walkway flanked by both sides of the garden (and the Belgian block we “harvested” from the construction project on my street); many, many, many beans and some emerging fall crops in the third photo; and the utter mess of corn, pole beans, and squash in the fourth. Looking ahead, I can’t wait for you to see the fall-blooming perennials in October!

One of the best things I’ve ever done is start my own garden. There are so many benefits: 1. It’s calming and healing mentally to put your hands in soil and connect with the earth. 2. It’s empowering to produce your own food. 3. Food tastes better and is the most nutritious when it’s ripened on the Plant and eaten right away. 4. It promotes community - sharing plants, seeds & produce with friends & neighbors, talking to other gardeners. 5. You save money Plant Based Living is not just about your diet. Clean air and nutrient rich soil are the foundation for a healthy life. Grow food not lawns & support local, organic, plant based farmers. #plantbasedwpg #plantbasedliving #startagarden #growfoodnotlawns #plantpurenation #wfpb #nutrientrich #plantsarelife #plantpurecommunities

Lucky 13. Was planning on 16 pints, but greens are so hard to gauge. These beauties are collards with chorizo and tomato purée. There’s at least one variation of this in our future, maybe without meat. We shall see. Peace.

If anyone wants some raspberry plants (I’m pretty sure they are raspberries and not blackberries but not 100%), stop on by I have way more than I can use, my neighbor is getting rid of her raspberry bed and asked me to help her dig them up. So stop on by if you want some raspberry plants. #gardening #growfoodnotlawns

It’s that time of year again- time to say goodbye to summer plants and hello to fall plants. We get it... You planted these seeds/starts. You invested your time and energy to care for them. You nurtured them into the grown plants they are today. It can be challenging to let them go. We also understand that summer fruits and veggies are absolutely delicious. Maybe you have a production plant that has led you to only crave it more and more... Maybe you have a plant that was slow to bloom causing you to struggle to fathom saying goodbye just yet... Whatever the case may be, we have great compassion towards the love you have for your plants. Letting go can be difficult, but necessary. Just as the seasons change and we have to accept and adapt to the differences in the weather. I invite us to look at our plants in our gardens similarly. Say goodbye to those plants that have been so giving this summer. Welcome those new baby plants that are so excited to provide for you! Let us know some of your favorite summer crops and some ways you prepared them this past summer! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #Avalow #Avalowraisedgardenbeds #Avalowgardenbeds #Avalowgardens #eatwellgardenoften #greenthumb #growyourownfood #growfoodnotlawns #raisedgardenbeds #raisedbeds #ediblelandscaping #urbangarden #todaysharvest #organicgardening #organicfood #organic #yardtotable #growsomethinggreen #homegarden #permaculturegarden #sustainability #sonomacounty #sonomacountyliving #sonomacountystrong #inseasonnow #sonomaliving #homegrown #growwhatyoueat #getoutside #womenwhogarden

Having a large garden in the city brings lots of little critters and annoying as they can be they are also great seed spreaders. I'm guessing this hop vine was a gift from them. I suppose nature thinks I should be brewing some beer.

Cloudy and cool today; a great day for a Fresh bowl of Soup. I made an amazing soup yesterday using everything from the garden. It was so good, I want to share the recipe with you! Here’s what I put in it: Swanson’s beef broth, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, garlic, parsley. Toss into a pot and let boil. In a pan, brown and soften an entire yellow onion with grape seed oil (you can use olive oil as well, I just prefer to cook with grape seed oil), then toss mixture into a Pot. Then cut purple potatos (peter Wilcox variety. I choose the purple potato and this variety because it holds its shape the whole time it’s in the soup. It never just falls apart into the soup.) toss those into the pot, and add 3 slices American cheese, salt to taste and a couple shakes of black pepper. Once veggies were tender, I used a whisk to ‘smash’ the ingredients and whisked them. (you could purée them, but I like my vegetables to still hold some shape to add some chunkiness to the soup.) Then it’s ready to serve! Best Soup Ever!! Even the kiddos loved it! They literally licked their bowls clean!! I served it with fresh baked bread for dipping! Enjoy!!

This kitty likes my phone charger cord. I don’t want him to like it. I could spend time and energy telling him “no” and “hey stop that” repeatedly, to both of our growing frustration - or I could grab a toy and throw it. . For as long as you’ve been alive, that brain of yours has been cooking 24/7. The monkeys in your mind are used to having free reign, why would they give it up easily? So if we are to break the cycle of annoying thinking, we learn to speak the language of the mind, to surrender the ego to the process, to revel in the act of sitting and being. #meditation

The perfect partnership. #companionplanting I surround all of my tomato plants with basil, lettuce, marigolds, and borage. There are many more plants that grow well with #tomatoes Basil - improves tomato growth and flavor, repels insects and diseases Borage - improves growth and flavor, attracts bees, and repels tomato #hornworm Marigolds - repels garden pests and reduce root-knot nematodes in the soil Lettuce - acts as a living mulch to help keep soil cooler and reduces diseases from water soil splashing Again, there are many plant that go well with tomatoes, but these are just my favorite. . . . . . . #gardening #garden #gardentips #organicgardening #organic #urban #urbanorganicgardener #naturegirl #countrygirl #growfromseed #growyourown #igrowmyown #igrowmyownfood #knowwhereyourfoodcomesfrom #vegetarian #growfoodnotlawns

Our #figs are so close to being ready, they just need another week or so and there will be a bunch for us to enjoy. Not sure what variety this is but some years we get a early summer and fall harvest although this year the first harvest was not great. I also need to prune it because it's getting way too tall and the birds are getting all the top fruit. I wander if there will ever be a time when everything is done and there are no more projects in the pipeline waiting their turn.

Suggestions? A friend gave me these pots and I haven’t found purpose for them yet! This is the east side of the house which gets less than 6 hours a day of sun and there is no drip line, so it would have to be hand watered for now. I would like to grow something vertical to give some privacy and see some nice greenery when looking out {instead of my neighbor’s stucco 🙈!} @the.neglectful.gardener @_just_around_the_corner_

Timun Akhirnya si timun mekar juga 1 bakal buahnya 😊😊 tapi masih ada banyak bakal calon buahnya sekitar 5-6 buah 😱😱😱 mudah²an bisa selamat sampai panen. Jadi penasaran bakal jadi timun jenis apa ya? Soalnya dulu saya nanem sampe 2 mingguan di tray semai ga bertunas juga, akhirnya tagnya saya buang. Eh tahu² malah sprout, jadi bingung sendiri kan? . . . . #thehappygardeninglife #permaculture #gardening #vegetableharvest #growfoodnotlawns #allotment #backyardgarden #freshvegetable #urbanfarming #seedling #aubergines #cucumber #farm #smallgarden #growyourownfood #berkebun #kebunsayur #sayuranorganik #fromgardentotable #urbangardenersrepublic #allotmentdiary #freshharvest #vegetablegardengrower #rainyseason #urbanfarming #permaculture

I haven't had time this summer to do my usual canning for winter so I have been roasting tomatoes, garlic, hot peppers, onions and bell peppers and freezing them. When we are done with the Farm work sometime in November. I will pull all the bags of roasted goodness out and I will make Salsa, Marinara, Pizza Sauce and Tomato Sauce. The whole reason I do all this work is because we don't want to eat chemicals or preservatives. It's so rewarding to grow your own food and feed your family through the whole winter! #farmfresh #getinmybelly #farmlife #growingfood #foodies #growfoodnotlawns #farmfresh #farmtotable #naturallygrown #farmtofork #nochemicals #sustainability #organicfood #5acrefarm #farmlifebestlife #organicfarm #organicfarming #sustainableliving #sustainability #idahofarm #farm #meetyourfarmer #farmgirl #foodsecurity #nofarmsnofood

Generally I’m racing my plants to care and harvest them before they bolt, except with a few plants like chives! I always make sure to let some go to flower because I love the color they bring to the sea of green in the garden, plus chives have worked well as a companion plant and deterrent in my garden. #playingwithmud 🌱 🌱 🌱 🌱 #chives #chiveflowers #ediblegarden #herbgarden #organicgarden #kitchengarden #backyardgarden #vegetablegarden #urbangarden #growyourownfood #growyourown #herbs #veggies #organic #gardening #homegrown #backyardgardening #urbangardening #organicgardening #gardentotable #instagarden #gardeninglove #gardeninglife #thehappygardeninglife #sustainableliving #sustainablesprout #growfoodnotlawns
