Although many people buy a toxic substance to spray on and eradicate this dandelion weed from their “aesthetically pleasing” “well-manicured” lawns, the amazing truth is that this common weed has some phenomenal benefits to offer...they are highly potent at helping the body detox and eliminate synthetic pollutants that can eventually cause the body to develop cancerous tumors, fantastic at assisting in lowering inflammation, helps boost immunity, stimulate appetite, and also just so happens to be one of the first major food sources for bees when the spring season begins. Something to think about the next time you see this “insignificant nuisance weed” growing outside. • • • #dandelions #roundupispoison #banweedkillers #foodforbees 🐝 #thebenefitsofdandelion #growfoodnotlawns #lawnsareuseless #completelyunnatural

Can’t beat Free-ninety-free! I took the kids down to the cabin this morning and we cut a ton of bamboo poles to use for trellises and tomato stakes! We used the van to bring them back to the cabin from the gettin’ place and my parents hauled them on the trailer to the house 🙌🏻 . . . #farmtofork #yardtotable #eatwhatyougrow #growwhatyoueat #eatfresh #farmfresh #homestead #homegrown #gardening #farmstead #halfpinthomestead #homesteading #playingindirt #farmlife #arkansas #knowwhereitcamefrom #thatfarmlife #growsomething #justplant #growyourown #gardenlife #backyardgardening #frontyardtoo #heirloomgarden #farmliving #growfoodnotlawns #freetrellises #naturaltrellis #tomatostakes

GARDENER INSPIRATION - My friend @robjgreenfield is an incredible gardener + activist who is growing and foraging 100% of his food for a YEAR. Puts the #apocalypsegrow challenge to shame 😜. Today, he's on Day 195, and on his feed you'll often see him sharing growing, foraging, and cooking stories and photos as he continues his incredible challenge. On top of all of that, he's living in a sustainable tiny home, and shares quite a bit about living a zero-waste life. He's a must follow. And be sure to check out his week on the @epicgardening podcast, which came out at the end of last year!

The first pole bean harvest of the year for me! It’s small, but I’m excited, especially because I have about ten more that will be ready in a few days! 🙌🏻🌿🌱 I’ve been feeling kinda crumby about my garden for the past few days because things aren’t growing the way I WANT them to. I just need to remind myself to be patient. #gardeners #veggiegardening #polebeans #backyardgardener #backyardgardening #sustainableliving #minihomestead #gmofreegarden #mygardenismyhappyplace #homesteadlife #growyourownfood #growfoodnotlawns

When I asked you all what you'd like to see more of on this page, one of the most common responses was gardening tips. I’ll admit I’m much more of a broader picture guy and don’t post many particular gardening tips. Especially because I only have solid experience growing in one climate and the people who follow this page are all over the world! But the good news is there are a lot of great accounts out there. One that I highly recommend to you is Kevin the Epic Gardener @epicgardening. His page is all about gardening, but not in a complicated or confusing manner. He's here to help with the basics- gardening explained in plain English, with DIY videos, growing guides and more! Definitely a great page for beginner gardeners. Plus, starting June 1st he’ll be growing, foraging and bartering for all of his food for a month- sort of a mini-experience of what I’m doing right now! Give his page a follow if you want help and inspiration to successfully grow your own food! - - - #gardening #gardeningtips #growyourfood #growyourown #diygarden #growfoodnotlawns

Who is firing the barbie up this weekend? Pineapple Red Cabbage Slaw with creamy lime habanero dressing is perfect served with grilled steak or a spatchcocked chook on the barbie, which is what we're doing. After both my hubby & me being horribly sick all week & both of us with knee injuries (it hasn't been very joyous in our house this last week), we're behind on the renos. Fingers crossed this is the weekend a hole gets cut in the old girl for a nice door, allowing us easy access out to the deck & pool. Have a fun weekend - Memorial weekend here in the US of A. Made Strawberry & Vanilla Panna Cotta with the strawberries we got from @brocksfarm_nc 🍓 Panna cotta is creamy and passes the wobble test! I would normally make a compote with the strawberries to pair with this panna cotta. But the strawberries are just so sweet with a hint of tartness that it just balances out the creamy texture of the panna cotta. You can easily eat these berries on it's own - it's that good! I can eat a whole lot of this! One of my favorite desserts!

Hello, from my little botanical paradise. 🌿 It’s been summer-hot on the mountain this week, and so very dry. I’ve been out watering everyday (thank you 400ft well!) trying to keep this young garden of mine green and thriving. Even with the heat I’m grateful for these chores that keep me inspired, thriving and grounded. This is my happy place for sure. 💗🌻 #thehappygardeninglife Wishing you all a sweet and easy weekend!. . . . #homesteading #homesteadersofamerica #organicgardening #permaculture #iamamodernfarmer #consciousliving #selfsufficientliving #sustainablegardening #womenwhofarm #countryliving #permaculturefarm #growfoodnotlawns #foodforest #permaculturedesign #wncmountains #farmlifebestlife #iamcountryside #growyourownfood

Opinions needed! I’ve been trying to make this decision since winter, but I’m still not sure. . One of these is my new herb garden. I’m resisting my Type A urges to keep the herbs all separated, so now they’ll mingle to their hearts content. . The other bed I intended to plant entirely with stinging nettle because I drink a lot of nettle tea. BUT I never have enough dill and parsley for the swallowtails because I’ve been growing those herbs in 12” pots. . SO? Do I plant it with nettle for me because I deserve nice things, or do I make it a dedicated swallowtail garden because they deserve host plants and food?? 🦋😭

Love my soil. Soaked up within an hour and stopped raining long enough to get the woodchips down!!! I’m ready for round 2 in an hour and a half, let’s see how well it holds up. . The awesome thing about woodchips is they soak up water and release it when the ground needs it! . Btw: I saw sooo many worms, spiders, and crawly things in these chips it’s amazing the ecosystem this creates!!! Seriously, like 4 worms per scoop of chips. 😍 . . . #iowagarden #growfoodnotlawns #cottegegarden #growwhatyoueat #woodchips #backtoeden #backtoedengarden #permaculture #eco #grow #garden #girlgrowers #heirloomgardening #backyardgarden

Did you know that when you grow potatoes you need to “mound” more soil onto the plant as it grows to encourage more potatoes?⠀ .⠀ Potatoes are a nightshade just like tomatoes, which means they’ll create roots from the stem—and in this case, potato plant “roots” are actually potatoes! So the more of the stem that gets buried, the more potatoes you get. We’re growing our potatoes in 30-gallon grow bags in this year (tap the link in my profile to see the ones we’re using). We started the grow bags rolled down with only about 6” soil in, then we’ve been unrolling the sides of the bags and adding soil as the plants grow. We eventually want to have some 3’ x 15’ beds for growing crops like this, but the budget just didn’t allow for it this year, so grow bags it is!⠀ .⠀ (Also, we’re still putting gravel down in the garden. Covering a 2000 square foot area in gravel one shovelful at a time is a lonnnngggg process.) #someonebuymeatractoralready ⠀ ▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸⠀ ▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸⠀ Follow 👉 @wholefully ⠀ Tag your stuff 👉 #wholefully ⠀ ▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸⠀ ▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸⠀ #gardenlife #gardener #Gardenersofinstagram #growyourownfood #Ediblegarden #organicgardening #thehappygardeninglife #gardentotable #vegetablegarden #growsomethinggreen #gardenlove #inmygarden #gardensofinstagram #veggiepatch #kitchengarden #Organicgarden #veggiegarden #growfoodnotlawns #hobbyfarm #homestead #homesteading #homesteader #vegetablegardener #rurallife #countrylife #zone6 #zone6garden #homegrownveggies

I think our artichoke plant may be done producing the size of chokes that are worth eating for the season. We got 9 that we ate, and there are 3 more that are borderline, but I’m letting them (plus the super small ones) go to flower for the bees. 9 seems like a decent harvest for a first year plant. Finally finished the ‘edge’ bed for the ‘fruit garden’ area today. The two beds in the middle are for strawberries - one of which already planted. The long ‘U’ shaped bed will accommodate Rhubarb. The long ‘thin’ part (around 5m long) will include my 3 grafted apple trees, which I plan to espalier (thus forming a kind of ‘hedge’ separating me from the plot behind).⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣.⁣ ⁣.⁣ ⁣.⁣ ⁣.⁣ ⁣ #growwhatyoueat #growyourfood #veggiegarden   #kitchengarden   #ediblegarden #greenfingers #gardenersofinstagram   #horticulture #mygardentoday   #growsomethinggreen   #growfood #organicgarden #ilovegardening   #gardenblogger #growfoodnotlawns   #lovemygarden   #organicgardening   #mybackyard   #backyardgardening #vegtablegarden   #allotmentlife #allotment   #growyourownfood #allotmentlove ⁣ ⁣

The number one reason I garden is because I’m a foodie first and foremost! All the other benefits of growing your own food take a back burner to the fact that I just love good, fresh, quality food 😍 Id go broke if I ate how I wanted to 24/7 without growing most of it myself! I’ve learned over the last couple years that we’ve done gardens I can be much more boujee with my plants if I grow my own goodness 😂😂🤷🏼‍♀️ #boujeeonabudget #igardenforthefood #foodiegardener #growfoodnotlawns #growbags #zone8 #zone8a #smallspacegardening #trellisgarden #urbangarden #urbanhomestead #virginiabeach

Who do you know that needs an herb spiral? 🌿😉 . Right now this #herbspiral just outside my front door is loaded with sage, thyme, bee balm, and chives right now—with rosemary, parsley, cilantro, basil, and oregano filling in too. It makes an amazing #pollinatorgarden besides being a stunning and savory wonder for our family. The kids love helping to pick (and sample) the fresh herbs! ☺️ . If you don’t have an #herbgarden yet, I encourage you to consider growing some #freshherbs this year.
