Day 78 - ☔️. Not the most productive of weeks so far... after getting the weeks regular jobs out the way, the rain has dampened our shearing spirit! So today’s picture is from Sunday. Our Sussex bull keeping a watchful eye on one of his most recent offspring. #sussexbull #grassfedbeef

The cattle are raised using the same traditional farming methods that were commonplace in 1843 when the farm was first established.
On Our Farm:
✅ Cattle graze on a mixture of naturally growing grasses.
✅ Animals are born on pasture and raised in family herds.
✅ Perhaps most importantly, our cattle are raised without the use of added hormones.
Raising grass-fed cattle on pasture takes a lot more time and requires a lot more land but we believe that this is the cleanest, healthiest and most sustainable way to raise cattle...and we wouldn't have it any other way.

I’ll put something into perspective for you.
This Grass-Fed Liver is from a “Local” Saskatchewan Rancher. Local, meaning they live in Saskatchewan and provide sustenance to our family’s. It cost me $5 and will feed 3 of us for 3-4 meals. It has enough nutrients in it to help you avoid numerous health issues that majority of people have...now on the flip side. You just bought a coffee and breakfast sandwich at Tim Horton’s for $5(or more). It feeds only you, for one meal, you’ll be hungry in an hour and it will eventually give you a digestive disease and most likely colon cancer (don’t believe it? Do some research). Wonder why our economy is messed up and our food costs so much? Tim Hortons isn’t local. It’s owned by a Brazilian company. Support yourself; support local.
In seasons where our grass is plentiful, we can divide our larger fields into smaller sections with temporary fences like the one seen in the photo. This helps to maximize the amount of grass the cows can eat and cut down on the amount of grass they trample back into the soil. As you can see in the photo, the cows have grazed the grass on the left side of the fence, while on the right side of the image there remains a plentiful amount of grass that they will graze next. When so much is offered in terms of grass and soil it's important to maximize it's value and waste as little as possible!! #sustainable #sustainableag #efficieny #mobgrazing #grassfed #grassfedbeef
