🍏 EASY GUIDE TO RECYCLING🍏
(May not apply to non-UK countries)
I got this wonderful recycling guide from #theopenuniversity after watching #blueplanetlive.
Here's the low-down:
- IGNORE THE CIRCULAR ARROWS SIGN: This is a LOGO, nothing to do with the individual product.
- LOOK FOR THE TRIANGLE: You'll find this indented on the bottom of a plastic product, or on the label.
- NUMBERS 1,2&4 CAN BE RECYCLED. 1s can go as they are, 2s should be recycled LID-LESS, and 4s should be taken to a supermarket- they have carrier bag recycling bins, big-ass ones near the tills usually.
- THIS DOES NOT MEAN IT'S OK TO BUY PLASTIC!! Plastic is very INEFFICIENT to recycle. Try to say no to plastic in the first place- often the alternatives are much better looking anyway! But, if you absolutely have to buy an item in plastic, remember 1,2&4 can be recycled, 3,5,6&7 CAN'T.
Number 7s are things like CDs and electrics. Here's a rule of thumb- if you can't give it to charity or exchange it with places like Music Magpie, see if there's a collection point near you, for electricals and such.
PLEASE CHECK THE LABEL ON YOUR RECYCLING BIN OR YOUR LOCAL COUNCIL'S WEBSITE FOR SPECIFIC RECYCLING INSTRUCTIONS. Some council's don't recycle things that others do- for example, my kerbside doesn't take glass, whereas at my old place they did. Don't forget about glass, paper etc bins, charity bins, and repurposing!
