Looking to build a better 🍑? . Hinge variations are where it’s at, whether it’s the King of hinges, the Deadlift or a simple cable pull though. Ensuring you’re able to stretch and contract the posterior chain help to ensure you keep your low back safe. It also leads to a better rump, if you’re into that sort of thing. One of the most common errors in hinge variations I see is over extending the low back AKA arching. It might make it look like you have a bigger booty but it won’t result in building one. This is an Athletic Stance Squat. You'll set your feet like an athletic stance (duh) instead of normal squat stance. . This makes the exercise more functional for athletes. It changes up the loading pattern to focus more on hamstrings and glutes, too. . You'll get less quads and less lower back involvement. . Strive to keep the shoulders square and not rotate the midsection on the way down. You will feel some rotational loading but that's normal and good for athletic training anyway. . Do your reps with one foot forward then switch, either immediately or on next set, to keep the workload balanced. . The exercise feels like a hybrid squat and lunge...very effective movement for athletes. . It almost feels like a single leg exercise done with two legs (you'll see what I mean when you try it). . 2nd Legs session over Llan in a row ✅ The lack of Hamstring isolation equipment here means that hip-dominant movements like the RDL are mandatory. The only issue is that I have to more of less go into muscular endurance threshold sets in order to reach failure. This was my last working set, and my hamstrings really weren’t playing along. Time to rest up and go again for Push tomorrow, and hopefully find a way down to Kicks for a Push session!

LEGS @ Llan ✅⠀ ⠀ All things considered, I am pretty happy with today’s Legs session. Only the Leg Press as Quad compound. ⠀ ⠀ This was my final set of DB RDLs, really emphasising the hip-hinge. There’s a lack of legs equipment at this gym, with no hamstring isolation movements. This meant I had to resort to increasing volume on the RDL - which is difficult with the heaviest DBs being 50kg. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⁣I still have Online Coaching spots available. PLANNING YOUR TRANSFORMATIONS AND DIETS⠀ ⠀ A topic I am craving to discuss on video, possibly bring the youtube back if there’s enough interest. ⠀ ⠀ It’s coming to the time of year where you start saying “I want to lose weight ready for the summer.” ⠀ ⠀ Brilliant. The inital motive is there, potentially breaking into the preparation mode of change? ⠀ However, the first mistake is there:⠀ ⠀ “Lose weight” - What does that mean? How much? Rate of weight loss per week? Unless you have a weight limit to reach, and you just want to look better, you want to monitor progress by how you look. Chasing numbers on the scales is unhealthy because of the amount of fluctuations that can occur with bodyweight. ⠀ ⠀ Next, we have the whole “oh I’m cutting carbs because they make you fat.” Wrong. Eating more than you burn makes you fat. ⠀ You need carbs to produce glucose for energy. Guess what? 0 carbs means minimal energy = lower energy output = Less weight loss. ⠀ ⠀ Change your mindset on Carbs. Instead of thinking “how low should I drop carbs?”, ask “How high can I keep my carbs whilst achieving weight loss?” ⠀ ⠀ Then we have the whole training situation. You’ve been made to believe that you need to do hours of cardio to lose weight. Wrong. If you want to look like a flat and depleted marathon runner, then go for it. If you’re with the majority who want to get “toned”: Get stronger with weight training. ⠀ ⠀ Guess what? ⠀ ⠀ Weight training burns calories too. Problem solved. ⠀ ⠀ So if you follow the 2 main issues, which most do, then you will plateau at some point. Your metabolism adapta to your activity and input. What usually burns 500kcal now burns 300kcal. ⠀ ⠀ But you’re in a trap. You’ve already exhausted your tools of cardio and 0 carbs. ⠀ ⠀ Are you struggling to plan your dieting phase for the summer? ⠀ ⠀ ⁣I still have Online Coaching spots available. LEGS ✅⠀ ⠀ On a high after today’s Legs session. Went in blitzed seated Hamstring curls for 2 top sets and a double dropset. ⠀ ⠀ Next minute @jack_thorburn asks if I want to jump in on the horizontal Leg Press. First time using it, so form wasn’t 100% on the money, especially trying to adjust to the unilateral aspect of it. However; this was taken from the top set. ⠀ ⠀ More focus needed on the eccentric control and a bit more depth needed. When performing the movement, you don’t feel much concentric contraction, controlling the eccentric phase, however, completey blitzed the Quads. ⠀ ⠀ One of the best decisions i’ve made is to start training at a different gym. Surrounding myself with like-minded individuals who have the same goal(s)! ⠀ Time to rest up and go back in for Push tomorrow! ⠀ ⠀ ⁣I still have Online Coaching spots available. Pull sessiion coming up this afternoon ⠀ ⠀ Same routine as every other Sunday: ⠀ Fasted cardio first thing; work, train and then get back to work. ⠀ ⠀ Still hovering around the 80kg mark - with no dramatic increase in food intake. Right now, I am trying to see how far I can progress training performance at this level of bodyweight. 3rd exercise into today’s Push session - back at Llandarcy.⠀ ⠀ Final set shown, with each video showing each stage of the drop set.⠀ ⠀ Started on 3 plates, and worked down to 1.⠀ ⠀ As you can see by the video, I wasn’t too keen on my posture - hence the constant readjustments. ⠀ ⠀ Overall, really happy with a different high volume approach to the session. ⠀ ⠀ ⁣⠀⠀ I still have Online Coaching spots available. Taken towards the end on my tidying-up phase last year. For me, the biggest thing to concern yourself with when trying to achieve a goal is monitoring progress. ⠀ ⠀ We can use scale weight as a slight indicator, but my bodyweight didn’t fluctuate too much during this phase - How? ⠀ ⠀ I was still eating high amounts of food, doing 30mins cardio a day, but training was at another level compared to the previous year. ⠀ ⠀ I was nowhere near as lean here as I would’ve liked to have been, but I didn’t need to be. I had no shows planned, no holiday scheduled. I just wanted to tidy up a bit. ⠀ ⠀ After I take picutres, I know what improvements I need to make. ⠀ ⠀ Imagine this, but with pounds of tissue slabbed on, and insanely leaner 👀⠀ ⠀ If I do ever plan to step on stage, I will ensure that I settle for nothing less than the best me possible. ⠀ If I am just going on holiday, then I will hold as much mass as possible, whilst reducing body fat. ⁣Since it’s Pull today. Taken post-cardio this morning. ⠀ So, I’ve grown a decent-ish back. I put it down to consistency, a change of mindset, a chance of environment and having positive influences around me, who are like-minded.⠀ No food since last night, weighing around 80kg - still got room to push food up and maintain some level of decent body composition.⠀ ⠀ ⠀ However, training progress is still great on this input - meaning there is no immediate urge to increase calorie input. ⠀ ⠀ I will consider all options before making my next move - with potentially a bit of travel in the summer, meaning I don’t want to look like a dropped trifle for then. ⠀ ⠀ The important thing for me, right now, is that I am enjoying training. I get days where it’s tough to find motivation to get out of bed and do anything, but I think of the bigger picture - what makes me happy? Making progress.
