⁣How do you stay motivated when working towards your health and fitness goals? 🤷🏻‍♀️⠀ ⠀ I get it... Motivation goes up and down, mood goes up and down, and energy goes up and down. You may have woken up today not feeling full of energy after a good weekend of food and perhaps a slip up or two. Below are my top tips (from experience!) for long term "motivation" to keep you going when your mind is telling you to take a rest from your goals and give yourself a well deserved rest... you're not done yet!⠀ ⠀ 🔸You need a good MOTIVE, or reason why you are on your health journey -Sometimes you need to dig a little deeper than superficial reasons in order to really keep you going.⠀ 🔸Track your progress always, so you can look back at it when you're not feeling it - reminding yourself how far you've come is generally a great motivator. ⠀ 🔸Remember the feeling you get from being on the right track and prioritising your health and vitality.⠀ 🔸Keep in mind where you WANT TO BE... you are not there yet and you will get there by doing the things you know you need to do, even if you're not in the mood. It’s Monday again 🎉 and after consuming a whole box of cereal last night (yessss this girl can eat 🙄) I felt pumped (and unsurprisingly full of energy) and ready for a fresh start. My body is still aching from my Saturday session but I pushed for some early morning cardio and some bi’s and tri’s and I feel even better now. 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 In my early morning motivation I booked a boxing class for tonight, I’ve never enjoyed group exercise but want to push my body and mind to do something completely different. (I also booked HIIT for Wednesday.. may cancel and I’ve never been a fan of HIIT but again I want to do something different and get my body out of its comfort zone). Another chance to set yourself some daily goals or a weekly goal to work towards and fingers crossed achieve by the end of the day or week🎯 If you don't achieve your set goal by the end of the day or week, no need to feel disheartened. If you worked hard doing things to bring you closer to your goal, then that means you have made a huge progress regardless and you should be proud of that🥰 Since attending the event yesterday it has inspired me this week, during my workouts to focus on mind and muscle control. Thanks to recent team building activities in my workplace, I’ve been reflecting on elements of my past... and this video of my leg day finisher is a fitting metaphor 😬 I spent all my teens & most of my 20s not living a “normal” life. I had an illness called M.E/CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome). 250,000 people in the UK have a diagnosis of M.E and a crude calculation estimates approx. 17million people in the world 🌍 Sadly the extent of disability that ME causes continues to be poorly acknowledged. For those not familiar with ME, a recent study by Kingson et al used anonymised clinical data collected from people with M.E. and MS (a similar but recognised illness) and assessed how their illnesses affect areas such as employment and income; finding that “people with M.E. were ‘measurably more disabled’ than those with MS, work fewer hours and have lower incomes.” This comparison actually makes me rather uncomfortable, to the point I debated mentioning it at all in this post, as I feel it can (albeit unintentionally) come across as diminishing the absolutely terrible impact of MS. So let me clarify, my only reason for referencing the study is to give some context that despite the wealth of evidence about how debilitating M.E is, it’s not recognised to the same extent that other similar conditions are 🤔 Back to the metaphor. I’ve spent the past decade not talking about those dark years; wanting to almost forget them. But I’ve been reminded that often what you feel you are shamefully dragging behind you like a heavy weight, is what has made you strong. Maybe it’s time to put that strength to good use. My experience certainly defined a large part of my character today, and it sickens me that after a decade we’re still debating the credibility of the condition. At my heaviest I was sitting at over 100kg (I got to that again when I was also pregnant) I would of killed to have this body when I was that heavy. Now I look at this picture and still feel that size. Now im sitting about 77kgs. It's amazing how your body can play mind games with you. #clientspotlight This weekend we incorporated a few new movements as well as smashing a few PRs 🙌 Can you believe that, despite her small frame, this lovely lady continues to increase on her weights near enough weekly? The initial goal when we started working together in January was to be strong enough to lift a 30kg lawnmower. She now deadlifts 80kg 🙌 squats 45kg for reps 🏋️‍♀️ and benches 40kg 💪 Nope, the goal isn't always fat loss.
