White rot free, disease free, mold free. We had our state inspection for our garlic today. Idaho is one of the top producers of onion and onion seed in USA, and because of that, the Allium family (onion, garlic, leeks) are inspected and certified.
Today we had our inspection and passed with flying colors!!
White rot - although rarely talked about is a terrible disease that effects soil. It basically turns root vegetables into mush and can stay in the ground for 50+ years. Most of southern Idaho became a quarantined area for the Allium family crops in the 1980's, this protects farmers, land, gardeners, and consumers.
Because of the strict guidelines, along with the extreme physical labor involved with planting, growing, harvesting and curing garlic there are very few garlic seed farmers in Idaho.
We are lucky enough to be one of the 8 garlic seed producers in southern Idaho. We can sell and ship our garlic seed throughout the United States and Canada, and very important - to Idaho gardeners. We are VERY limited on garlic seed this year, as we are replanting most of our stock to meet the high demand next year.
If you are interested in purchasing this year please DM me for a list of our 6 hardneck or 6 softneck varieties. We should start our harvest next week and will have a better idea of what will be available.
