1 month growth on a Tainung 1 papaya. Papayas grow on islands, right? When you plant Papaya in our soil, you want to dig a deep hole, fill it with a well draining mix and then build a mound in that hole, then create a berm around that. I grow all of my papayas on islands or at the top of slopes, because the most likely way you'll kill a Papaya in Phoenix is overwatering in our poorly draining clay soil. I use a mix of peat moss, perlite, compost, native dirt, manure, and a bit of high end potting soil. I like to try to keep 6"-12" of wood chip mulch on top. When I planted this from the 5 gallon container the roots were circling, so I broke up the roots, and I have fed it 2 tsp of fish fertilizer per gallon of water twice a week. It gets unfiltered sun until about 3 PM.
