Because the ocean has both high tides and low tides, the movement of water from the changing tides is a natural form of kinetic energy.

Fun fact. This seat is an extremely popular place for pictures at Havasupai. But that’s not why we were here. It turns out that two feet from this rocky overlook is where you might find a 3G bar or two to CALL THE KIDS YOU LEFT AT HOME! . Leading up to this trip, I was all over the place trying to decide if it made sense to bring our kids. @hikingtheglobewithkids and @microadventurefamily did and had me ready to carry both AND our stuff the whole 20 miles in and out if I had to. But the closer the adventure got, I remembered that there was this third person in the family who I hadn’t seen in six years. I mean really SEEN. . So Dan and I decided to make this trip about us and spending authentic (and uninterrupted) time with friends. We’ve never left the kids overnight with anyone because of my own anxieties. But as we were planning, it became clear that my fears were doing my kids and my husband a disservice. Dan had been silently and patiently waiting for his wife’s attention, lost to motherhood long ago. And my kids were entirely dependent on me, unsure of how to rely on aunts or uncles or grandparents for much of anything. . I ripped that bandaid right off with Havasupai. Five days and miles away with the expectation that I’d have no contact with our kids was a big step. And you know what? It actually worked out perfectly. Better than perfectly. I could have even done without the quick call from this very spot. But it was nice to hear their voices, to sit with a few other parents in the same situation, and to have one couple offer to take this picture of us to show the kids when we got home. . Would I do this again as we did? Yes. Will we also bring the kids next time so they can experience the adventure. 100%. . Now give me all the advice you have for maintaining sanity when you leave your kids (because I literally had our will done and left a one pager for my sister on how to raise our kids if we die 😬). . #havasupai #havasupaifalls #havasufalls #ventureout #feedyouradventure #adventureanywhere #seekadventure #welivetoexplore #wildme #liveunscripted #getoutandexplore #outboundliving #findyourselfoutside #goplaces #fromwhereiroam #idhikethatcrew #momswhohike

Before we left for Lassen, Pax told me he hated nature and asked why we always have to go on trips or go camping. It had been a rough day and everyone was in a crabby mood, including me. I almost just said forget it. But, I packed up anyway and made everyone go. And guess what? We had a great time. • We laughed at camp, all of us hiked a new trail, and the boys got another junior ranger badge! Other than the one uphill section on our trail (🤪) I don't remember hearing any complaints. That's why I make them go further.
