Hola de Madrid, ESPAÑA🇪🇸! Making a pit stop in Spain with the hubs before jetting off to the next country, where we'll celebrate our five-year wedding anniversary 👰🏾 (Sidebar: I can't believe I've been married for half a decade already, yowzers). It's so great to be back in Europe.
Why come to Madrid, of all the places in the world? While Spain is one of my favourite countries (I've been at least 8-10 times and it's my 4th visit to Madrid), as with most of my leisure travel, COST was a huge motivating factor! We paid $500 USD per person for round-trip airfare from NYC-Madrid, which is an amazing price for high season. I should mention, however, that I saw tickets for as low as $350 USD for August departures. Remember: being flexible with your travel dates is one of the easiest ways to travel for the low.
Like Portugal, Spain is still very much a value destination in comparison to its neighbours France, Italy, and England, especially when it comes to food and accommodation. For example, we're paying $95 USD a night for our newly renovated 3-star hotel located steps away from the Gran Via, central Madrid's main thoroughfare. Saving a few dollars here means we can totally splurge when we get to our next destination-- it'll be well deserved since staying married for half a decade is worthy of a little luxury, ¿verdad?
More sights and sounds from Madrid in my stories! And stay tuned-- more reasons Spain can be a great "ballin' on a budget" destination are to come. Have you ever been to Madrid or Spain?
