Reverse crunches are great until someone starts flopping around on the floor or bench and kicking their legs around more than Daniel Larussa at the All Valley Karate Tournament to eek in some more reps. Cobra Kai never dies! Reverse crunches are superior to regular crunches or sit ups because the last thing you want to do is compound more upper back kyphosis and also causes you to bear down on your pelvic floor creating prolapse and a host of other problems. No guys, no need to worry about prolapse but it still isn't for you... unless you plan to change your name to Quasimodo or you want to go visit my friend Christy @cc_cubed for pelvic floor dysfunction. Reverse crunches help you to reverse posture excessive lumbar lordosis. Keeping the band behind your knees helps to mitigate how much momentum and leg swinging you can get away with. Peel yourself off the bench, get a nice hard exhale at the top of the movement, and paste yourself back down. Like Animal from the Muppets says, "IN CONTROL..." Only go as far up as your lower back will allow. If you feel a stretch in your lower back, tread lightly. You don't want your lower back to overstretch and spasm. Feel muscles, not joints. If you're a person who presents with a flat lower back DO NOT DO THESE! Just like not wanting to compound upper back rounding, we don't want to compound a lack of lordosis. Stick to planks or other neutral spine variations. 2017- Running lots of miles lifting heavy when I could eating inconsistent always hungry because...cardio 2019- lifting heavy consistently, no more hours of running, eating and tracking macros consistently I’ve been chasing a certain physique my whole life, but never did what it takes to actually make it happen. I became educated in nutrition and not just the next fad diet,that is when I started to see results. You can’t pay someone $150 for nutrition and get results if you don’t put that info to good use, you can’t shell out $300 on some super shakes and expect that to get your dream bod. Late for the gym and not feeling it but ended up having a decent session....wasn’t aiming for heavy weights just reps and focusing on squeezing everything. Started with a 5km run then did squats 8 sets 10 reps @60kg then 5 sets of beltless doubles @80kg. (Last set on video I was struggling). Then split squats 5sets 20reps @50kg. Followed by deadlifts 6 sets 10 reps @60kg 3 sets 10 reps 70kg. Ended with a 2.5km run. This is me. Before and after. Before self love and after, that is. The photo on the left was taken when I wasn’t fully in love with who I was. Honestly I was pretty self loathing and spent a lot of my time obsessing over negative comments or thoughts that I’d had. Literally obsessing to the point where getting out of bed was a chore. I didn’t feel worthy in my skin. I didn’t even feel loved yet I was surrounded by it. My self love journey hasn’t been easy, I’ve had some major wins and some major fails. We’re only human and we’re not perfect, that’s something I find very hard to understand some days. But like most, I just try. I wake up and I try to love my body and my mind more than I loved it the day before. I just wake up and start where I am. Honestly in my 25 years of life I’ve learned to give myself space and time for growth. It happens but not over night and you have to understand that. Self love is like any other kind of growth, it takes time. You have to nurture it. You have to try and continuously try harder and harder to be the best most loving version of yourself, for yourself. Some days self love is waking up and working out and you know what?! Some days it’s eating 6 @kellysbake cupcakes and not leaving the couch. It’s BALANCE. But you can’t sit here hating yourself. You can’t. And god help me, you won’t. Self love is necessary for a fulfilling relationship with yourself. It’s mandatory. Hell if I can love myself and get out of the dark place I was in?! The. EVERYONE can love themselves. I had no idea that I could ever feel this fulfilled and loved by just accepting myself.
