What’s your reason to workout and be fit?🤷🏻‍♀️ When I began working out in the gym as a sophomore in high school, I mostly did it to stay in shape during the “off-season” of playing volleyball. The next year, I had my first real boyfriend and I got incredibly self-body conscious to the point it was unhealthy. I ONLY did cardio step classes and followed that with another 1-1 1/2 hours on the stair stepper. I skipped meals and at one point, lunch was just a few carrots. Even after ALL that, I still thought I was fat every time I looked in the mirror 😱 I was so hungry all the time and eventually that feeling was my new normal and just got used to it. Magazines and ads all featured skinny models wearing size 0....it was so unrealistic! SKINNY was in 😭 I’m not sure if my parents had any idea I was struggling with body dysmorphia and the emotional effects that came with it. Approaching my Senior year, I got to know the fitness instructor at my local gym and told her I want to teach aerobic classes like her! It seemed like the perfect job: workout and get paid for it 😍 After getting my Group Fitness cert I had my own step class to lead and was feeling great and getting on the healthy train 🚂 (so I thought). Then, my world crashed horribly down when my Mom all of a sudden passed away. My family and I were devastated and it sent me into another downward spiral. My college plans had to completely change from going away to school to having to live at home and help my Dad take care of my 7 year old, special needs, brother. I continued to teach group fitness classes and it ended up being therapeutic for me. Teaching classes was my “escape” from the real world and gave me a mental break from the negative that was surrounding me. My viewpoint about food and exercise changed dramatically moving forward. Unfortunately it took a devastating life experience to take a hard look at myself and realize that life is so very short and we have to take care of ourselves FIRST to be our BEST selves. We are our harshest critics, but we need to learn to love ourselves on the inside and out 🥰 At the end of the day, remember to ❤️ yourself and accept how truly beautiful you are💕

Ladies, it’s not about the weight. At age 11, I was over 200 pounds, pre-diabetic, and had serious food and inactivity problems. Middle school was a nightmare. Food was my comfort, and became an obsession. My doctor told me I’d develop diabetes if I kept up my bad habits, and told me I’d be even more different from everyone else because of the possibility of developing Type II diabetes. I became obsessed with “fitting in” and “being accepted.” I thought that if I looked socially acceptable, more people would like me. I joined track and ran 2-4 miles every day and severely restricted my eating habits. I did lose weight, but *my life DID NOT change.* It wasn’t until adulthood when I quit trying to impress the people that were never a part of my circle, and I not in theirs, and never would be. Now I’m in my mid 20s, considered slightly overweight, but strong. Healthy. Humble. Accepting of myself and others. And I have a circle of people that I love and trust, and who accept me for me and recognize the effort I put into making myself a better person every day. People make weight loss “the goal” as if some number on a scale is going to change their life in some magical way. It doesn’t. Sure, you may be able to fit into smaller clothes and be more active. And that’s about it. Health goals should be focused on the way we feel, and achieving HEALTH rather than weight. Our focus should be keeping our bodies in check and taking care of the vessel that embodies our soul. Our health, well-being, and being a better person today than we were yesterday is what our focus needs to be. Exercise because of all the benefits it provides, like positive moods and longevity. Eat in moderation to fuel your body (and sometimes, the soul needs Ben and Jerry’s!) Week 3!! This week I changed Joi's meals a little. She said she was too hungry from the time that she ate lunch until she got home. I added lean protein with the chicken and salmon so she can feel fuller longer. 1. ➡️ water with mint, lime and cucumbers. If drinking plain water gets boring just add a little flavor to it. 2.and 3. and 5. ➡️ Lunch. Chicken, salmon okra(of course😁) and broccoli. Seafood egg salad with shrimp and crab. The potato medley is with peppers, mushrooms, garlic and onions. ** if you like potatoes, don't be afraid to eat them. As you can see the portion is small. ** 4.➡️ This is breakfast. Alternating days between 2 boiled eggs and a protein shake or apples and peanut butter and a protein shake. ➡️These meals are prepared with her individual goals in mind. I also take into consideration her tastes which helps with staying consistent so she doesn't feel like shes missing out on anything. ➡️We don't count calories but we use more of a portion control concept while still eating food that tastes good and has variety. Just know that weight loss is not linear. Sometimes it's up and down. It takes trial and error to find your sweet spot. Since so many people don’t know how I started, here’s a something to read. - This also goes towards to the guys reminding them that I’m not wasting my time - 14 years old jumping into the gym not knowing a damn thing, why ? Body dysmorphia. All I thought I had to do was eat nothing and train harder everyday on the cardio equipment. - 15 years old been introduced to the weights. Still for the pure reason of body dysmorphia, as I learnt how to use it, I’ve seen all the progress with it and with that I’ve had so much satisfaction for my self - 16 years old in the gym day in and out consistently pumping the weights learning I had to eat right, figure out my calories and train right. That’s where I thought personal training is the right spot for me and the idea of bodybuilding occurred to me. - 17 years old I fucked up and found my self at the bottom, why. Because of the environment I surrounded my self with, gained weight, lost my spiritual side of things and fucked up being at 124 kg but aye, guess what. I don’t regret it - 18 years old I decided to take up the course of being a personal training not caring what anyone else thought. Walking into the institute at my weakest physically and mentally, and coming out that at the end as a personal trainer being my strongest, being bullet proof - Now I haven’t been through a lot, but I’ve been through enough to impact me and to change where I’m heading towards. - I’m now a personal trainer at one of the best gyms I could be hired at, constantly being reminded that if I stick to what I’m doing not giving a fuck what anyone tells me, everything will come. THE IMPORTANT STUFF Last set of 8 snatches after 5 days off training 🕺🍻 I missed one lift in the entire workout which was a win for me and finished under the time cap. To be honest when your training takes a back seat as other life priorities become more important may it be family or work etc. Progression in the gym is still important for me to be moving forward but what's even more important is that I am blessed I can even exercise. Being able to move my body is the most important thing to me over any program. There will come a day when you will have your last workout. So until that day every session is a bonus. Love Dan 😎
