Bedtime routine - why is it when you have a baby everyone becomes obsessed with sleep?! I have to say Niamh sleeps pretty well, we’re up twice in the night (usually around 01:30 and again between 4 and 5). However, a proper bedtime routine was something I wanted to start early. Niamh is 9 weeks old and we’ve been doing a properly solid routine now for a few weeks, and she loves it!
1. A bath - High energy, music, singing, dancing etc. Niamh LOVES music (and has done since before she was born!) so we get lots of smiles and it makes her nicely tired!
2. Boob! - music goes off and we start to chill with a feed
3. Book - we pop on her sleeping bag and read a story; current favs are The Tiger who came to Tea and Elmer
4. Bed - then we have more quiet time and she goes into her cot usually awake but very sleepy. Tonight she fell asleep halfway through The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and she’ll usually sleep from about half 7 through to about half 1. I’m happy with this, I’m not expecting her to sleep through, I’m just enjoying getting a bit of evening to chill with James on the sofa!
