Even on days when I don’t do a full workout, I always try to do some stretching.... this daily routine is essential, for me, as it helps to keep my spine and hips mobile. Stretching in its most basic form is natural, enjoyable and instinctive. Even before getting out of bed, try doing some simple stretches before putting any weight on to your joints. When we’re young we’re blessed with natural mobility and balance, and injuries recover quickly and easily. As we grow older we lose flexibility in our muscles, tendons and ligaments which directly correlates to aching and an increased risk of injury. Women tend to be significantly more flexible than men but, as we age, we all tend to lose flexibility although it is often down to inactivity rather than the ageing process. Stretching as little as 10 minutes a day, 3 days a week, can improve circulation and posture, and help you manage stress because well-stretched muscles hold less tension. Stretching can decrease pain and soreness after exercise. One area where stretching is useful, and I can really vouch for this, is in the prevention of back pain. Our back is the core of our skeletal and muscular system so it is important we maintain it. The back moves in 6 directions - it flexes forward, extends back, side bends right and left and rotates right and left. Therefore to stretch the back thoroughly we must stretch it every day in all 6 directions. At some point, back pain affects an estimated 80% of us and is responsible for more time off work than any other condition. If you suffer, investigate a stretching routine that improves the extension of muscles and other soft tissues of the back. This can reduce back stiffness, improve range of motion and add strength. Be patient and consistent. It's also important to relax during your stretching routine. It should not be a rushed event. The 'I've got to hurry up and do this so I can go' attitude is counter-productive. Breathing effectively assists your stretches and makes them more productive. To maximise the benefits, exhale as you go into your stretch. Try it.... it really does feel so good and has SO many benefits!❤️🤸‍♀️🧘🏼‍♀️

Confidence is something so easily taken away yet so hard to gain, especially when it comes to our bodies. As women, we’re constantly judged by the way we look. We are expected to have a flat stomach, round butt, perky boobs, shiny hair, soft skin, etc. . I know how it feels to be uncomfortable in your own skin. I know how it feels to want to change but not know how. . I was 100% lost before I said yes to a complete stranger on Instagram. Sure I went to a gym, but I didn’t know what to do. Sure I could have hired someone but that’s expensive and homegirl was not about to drop that amount of cash. It’s crazy to me that all I needed was some at home workouts, people in my corner and an outlet to realize what I was truly meant to become. . Who else feels hormones ruining their lives?🙋🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ Tell me, do you find it extra-hard to deal with PMS sometimes? 👇👇 PMS got me bad with the f*#!ing lethargy and weird pains and aches all over my body. Bloating making it nearly impossible to hold the core during workout too. Ugh. 😡 But I have been doing low impact workout at home using only body weight as opposed to pumping iron. I find it terribly boring🙄 but it helps with the hormonal stress. With age, the hormonal bullsh*t just gets worse for some. Forcing myself to do atleast a little bit of workout since the last few times, has helped a lot with the hormonal depression. I will be talking about hormones and mental health in one of my blog posts soon💭. Know that it takes a lot more to do what needs to be done sometimes but it's worth the push. ❤💪🏻

Soooo happy with this workout! Headed out for 1m5 up, 5 x .65 mile (closest to 1k I can program my watch for) @ 8:00-8:10 with .25 ml RI, 1.5 down. I did it on elevation, and I really focused on mindset--being present in the mile and really visualizing my body hitting my goals. Splits in my story, but overall, not too shabby😉

I think what I’m most interested in is growth. ⁣ ⁣ It’s probably why I like the gym and training so much and why I have decided to make it a career. ⁣ Hopefully it’s obvious that when I say growth, I’m not talking about getting swole or jacked. ⁣ ⁣ Training (good balanced training) is something that does not allow us to bypass or ignore our weaknesses. When there is inadequacy, it is apparent and limits performance, forcing adaptation or retreat. If I’m asked to run a mile and can’t finish because I’m out of breath or my legs hurt, then I either have to develop my work capacity and endurance, or decide I’m just not a runner. The same can be said about any manner of strength, coordination or mobility. ⁣ ⁣ The gym is beautiful because it’s harder to hide from the things that we don’t want to know to know, and the goals are usually more clear (i.e. get stronger, faster, more flexible etc). Once we learn to embrace the things that limit us, we can begin to become the athlete we want to be.⁣ ⁣ But the real trick? Taking that attitude, the attitude of betterment, into our very being. ⁣ To become someone who embraces pain, failures, and all the things that tell us we’re wrong not just as unavoidable, but as something we can’t live without. To thrive on the pushback and rejections as tools of evolution and self improvement. ⁣ ⁣ That’s what I’m most interested in. Continuing to take myself and all those around me to find our limitations and to learn from them. ⁣ ⁣ So, who wants to evolve?

✨Zesty Spaghetti✨ This is an absolute must for this week’s meal... Especially now we have some Spring sunshine to compliment our zesty flavours! 🍋☀️ ✨ Serves 2 ✨ • Ingredients • ✨ 300g wholegrain spaghetti, salt, pepper, 3tbsp olive oil, 1tsp cayenne pepper powder, 2 garlic cloves finely chopped; 1 red chilli finely chopped, 1 red onion chopped, 2 handfuls of chopped kale, 6 mini plum tomatoes chopped in half, 1 courgette halved lengthways and sliced, 200g salmon, juice of 2 large fresh lemons & grated parmesan. ✨ • Instructions • ✨ Heat your oven to approx 200c. Place salmon in roasting tray, season with salt, 1tsp cayenne pepper, 1 fresh lemon juice & put into the oven to cook for approx 15 mins. Place all your vegetables into another baking tray, except the kale- add this in 4 mins before they’re almost ready. Add the salt, pepper, garlic, chilli, lemon juice & mix it all together with the vegetables. Place this into the oven to cook for approx 15-20 mins. Whilst all of these are roasting, cook your wholegrain spaghetti as per cooking instructions on your packet. Once all these are cooked, find your way of presenting these beautifully on your plate and finish it off with a sprinkle of parmesan on top. 💝YOU CAN DO ANYTHING💝⁣ ⁣ Thinking back to last year when I was a senior in college, I NEVER thought that my life would have turned out like this. This life that I am currently living was once all just a dream in my head. In fact, I’ve dreamed about this since I was in High School. My life has been one heck of a ride and it’s about to remain hectic but one thing I’ve truly discovered is that in order to achieve something, you have to be OBSESSED. ⁣ ⁣ Anybody can achieve anything but as the saying goes “what consumes your mind, controls your life.” You have to eat, sleep, and think about your goal 24/7 and turn it into an obsession. This route I’m on is not easy, I’ve been torn down and ripped apart so many times but every single time I stand back up even stronger. ⁣ ⁣ It’s OKAY to be OBSESSED and make sacrifices for something that you want so bad. Every action that you take should go toward your dream. For example: I’m currently on my way back to L.A and as hard as it is to leave my family and friends and my HOME in Hudson, Wisconsin to fly all the way back across the country, i know that this is for me and my dreams. The truth is, it’s NOT easy and doesn’t get any easier to leave BUT my mind is consumed by my dreams that I’m currently obsessed with. I’m a fighter and will do whatever it takes. NEVER feel selfish for putting yourself first. This one life is your chance to do whatever the heck you want so work hard, and NEVER forget why you started.

(OPTIONAL) 3RD LEG DAY DAY ⬇️ Did you know that light to no weight with high reps increases muscle hypertrophy aka muscle growth? There are many controversies saying that body weight exercises do not grow muscle. Body weight exercises ALONE will not grow your muscle; however, adding body weight exercise to your heavy weight workout routine can make a big difference in your overall growth. Working your muscle fibers to their metabolic limits (aka metabolic stress) through the repetition of actions to muscular failure (aka high reps with little to no weight) is ONE of three ways to increase muscle hypertrophy (of course the other two are progressive tension overload and muscle damage/repair through heavy lifting). Personally, I have seen AMAZING results adding a bodyweight leg day to my routine for the past 5 months. Gym time = play time 🙊🙈🙉🐒🤸🏾‍♂️ Gym time = meditation time Gym time = me time ••••••• It’s so easy to sleep in and forego the gym in the AM. Your alarm goes off. But your mind feels fuzzy, you just woke up from a strange nightmare and all of today’s due tasks are running circles in your mind, So you hit that snooze button and tell yourself 5 more mins... Before you know it, it has been a whole hour and a half and now you’re rushing to work without a workout, without breakfast and oh shoot you forgot to put on underwear 👙 Beeeeen there. Done that. Well the first 2 anyway 🙊 But starting your day off with a workout does WONDERS for the rest of your day: You’ve exercised discipline. You’ve started your day off YOUR way, with total intention. and your mind-fuzz gets cleared and replaced with endorphins. You can have a BOMB ❤️🔥 workout in just 20 mins. Yeah! 20 mins is all it takes to fire up your mind and body. And if you’re anything like me, once those 20 mins are up, you’ll tell yourself “just an extra 5 more mins”’ and you end up spending a whole hour and a half at the gym, bathing in your own glorious sweat 💩 oops. The hardest part is just starting. But once you chuck yourself out of bed and START - Sh*t, the fantastic stuff you’ll get done during the rest of the day is endless! So. Just. Start. 20 mins is all it takes 😉

A wise and pretty lady ( @melissafield.com.au ) once told me that exercise should be a priority. That we shouldn't work around our work schedule to try to fit an hour of exercise but rather the other way around: schedule our exercise and then manage our other tasks or commitments around it. . . I know that for many this sounds challenging but this really worked for me. If you block out at least 5 hours of your week for exercise, that's 5 hours out of the 105 hours you are awake for the entire week. second day of the week, but first day of training! had to take a rest day on Monday because my hamstrings were still so sore from Saturdays workout 😓 . when i first started weight training I was so scared to lift heavy— but today I went as heavy as I could and omg wow I feel GREAT 🙌 progress takes time!!! 🙌 So ready for the weekend... . 🦄 This week found out my grandma’s pacemaker is almost out of battery (typically good for 10 years) but at 9y 1 mo. The battery is almost out because her heart is not working as well as it should so the pacemaker does most of work.
