Whatโ€™s one or two things that make you happy?!? I have decided to make a complete switch. Iโ€™ve never been a shake person , but I love #shakeology and it has helped my stomach problems as well as helped me stay full. I do pair my shakes with different healthy nuts or healthy breakfast bars. I also love their energize and hydrate. Iโ€™m still in the learning process but have decided to sign on as a coach, because of my love for #fitness and health and this company does a great job of combine those aspects. I want to talk to you about my abusive relationship ๐Ÿ˜ณ-with food. โ €โ € Throughout my masters degree I have been introduced to a different perception of eating disorders. We traditionally think of anorexia or bulimia, but these are simply oneโ˜๐Ÿผ category of disease. A persons relationship with food is developed from infancy to adulthood, we create patterns of behavior and a true relationship with food. Some look at it as enjoyment, some look at it as purely nutrition, some look at it as a creative hobby, some associate with emotions including love, happiness, despair,and depression. (most food advertising associate happiness with food) โ €โ € My relationship with food, I have discovered, is less than ideal. I look to food for pleasure OR purely as fuel. Every day I calculate my macro nutrient intake, I review the foods that I am take for micro nutrients to support my metabolism especially my thyroid. I look to consistently consume foods that cleanse and remove toxins from the body, but on days where I fall off course, I abuse food. ๐Ÿ˜‘I know Iโ€™m not alone in this there are many people who struggle with eating disorders or maladaptive eating behaviors. Knowing your relationship with food is a first step in correcting it. I log my food, as soon as I started logging my emotions I noticed a trend. Negative emotions lead to negative food choices.I know I simply canโ€™t be happy all the time and therefore choose good food all the time -I wouldnโ€™t be human. But once I began actively noticing the negative decisions I would make around food-I made less of them. Now donโ€™t give me wrong - everything in moderation. I can still have a good day and get an ice cream ๐Ÿฆ with my friends, or have a bad day and make a beautifully nutritious salad.๐Ÿฅ—But I challenge you to take notice of your food decisions in association with how you feel. W15D105: 16mi for the week + classroom set up for the new school year = one tired runner โ€ข Thankfully @brooksrunning knows I am the best ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ˜‡ โ€ข I started training for my first half marathon in 2012 because of a @rundisney ad that said, โ€œif you can dream it, you can do it.โ€ That coupled with the princess ๐Ÿ‘ธ๐Ÿป paraphernalia ๐Ÿ’• spoke to the 25 year old hating her life. Sometimes you need one little mantra, Strava/ Garmin badge or shiny new mug to remind you through injury, set-back, or when youโ€™re just not feeling a run day that YOU CAN DO THE DAMN THING โœจ 7 years, 15 half marathons, a handful of injuries and one full marathon later (Iโ€™m not sure I can count how many 5-10-15ks ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿฅฐ) Iโ€™m getting ready to tackle my first world major (๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ @chimarathon ) and whole heartedly identify as a runner. Did my first long fell race yesterday the Brecon Beacons race. It was a scorcher and hurt from the get go. But lush to run around these lumps with a view. I was second all race and when I crossed the finished line found out I came third because there is a direct line off the last climb, to the finish which I was unaware of. A day full of running and exploring new trails. Started the day off with an early morning 5k run with Summit. Met up with good friends Andrea Richardson and Steven Hurkett and ran 12k from Bear Lake to Macgillivray Falls followed by a 9k run/hike with Chris and Summit. This lyric is the inspiration for my IG handle. The song โ€œMercyโ€ by The Ghost Inside was a song that I would listen to during my battle with cancer when my mind would become for lack of a better term, weak. And this specific lyric would remind me to fight back and fight back harder. We are not immune to tragedy, trauma and over all bad things happening to us. There is a process of dealing with these things. Though it is healthy grieve and feel sorry for yourself, it is even more important to know when to pick yourself up and fight back. I couldโ€™ve very easily stayed in a mental state of fear and self pity and I definitely went there sometimes but I also knew if I stayed there that it might kill me when my health was severely compromised. Mindset is everything and faith. Just remember that youโ€™re never out of the fight. . . .
