2 things for this post. 1) always give yourself something to work towards. It doesn’t have to be big, it can be something small, like managing a whole day without drinking a soda (if that’s your hang-up) or maybe something bigger, like dropping a jean size. For me, I kept signing up for ORC’s (obstacle race courses (minus the racing bit for me lol)). But it was always having that one thing to push myself towards. It doesn’t matter how determined we all are - sometimes you need that little extra. 2) don’t be ashamed of your jiggle!! In this photo you can clearly see my ‘jiggle’ as my shirt is pressed against me. And I’m ashamed to say that most photos like this, I’d deleted cause I didn’t want to see it. I was ashamed. But I shouldn’t have been. My jiggle was (and still is) part of my journey. It’s not something anyone should be upset about. Happy Monday lovelies! 💕 Today I stepped massively out of my comfort zone and swapped the gym for a Reformer Pilates session with @create_fitness_ . It was hard. Honestly I associate Pilates with lululemons and yummy mummies but I was sweating! It was amazing to learn a bit more about it and understand the health benefits (phenomenal), especially for diabetics!! Is it hard to gain muscle as a #vegan ? 🤔🥦 Regardless of whether you’re vegan or on the caveman diet the science behind building muscle stays the same 👉🏻 You need to be in a calorie surplus & training in accordance to your goals. Veganism isn’t the cause of your lack of gains, it’s your under-eating! If we’re under-eating then we’re not putting our body in the environment it needs to build muscle. Plant foods are lower in calories & higher in fibre (which helps us stay full) than animal based foods. Whilst it looks like our meals will provide us with enough energy, the energy density of them can be deceptively low. This is GREAT for fatloss phase, not so great for gaining 💪🏻🥦 My tips to put on plant based muscle?! 1. Eat slightly above your maintenance calorie intake. Monitor your food & weight; if weight stays the same, eat a little bit more. If it goes up, leave it be until it plateaus. 2. Buy a good quality vegan protein powder ( @macr0mike is amazing 👌🏻) to assist in getting your protein & calories in 3. Make smarter food choices 👉🏻 ✅ fats are higher in calories! So utilise them ✅ Eat your vegetables but don’t fill up on them. Instead chose rice, cereals, potatoes & pasta as your carb sources! ✅ Dates & Peanut butter are also a high calorie, easy to make/digest snack too! 4. 3 weeks away from my very first half marathon! It has felt so far away for so long and now it feels just around the corner. - - I settled in and did a full 10 miles today. I had only planned on doing 9, but when I got to 9 and realized how exhausted I was, I felt a strong pull to get an extra mile in.
