All of my works are handcrafted in the classic Tiffany technique.
What does this mean?
I use special stained glass which I cut by hand with a glass cutter according to my templates. After the color pallet of glass is formed I start to assemble the work accurately [like veeeery accurately!]: grind edges of every piece of glass one by one, so they are placed perfectly to each other, clean them and then apply copper foil. When all the parts are gathered tightly together, I solder. The outlines of my works formed by solder also. The final steps are to wash, polish & patinate the seams and wax the item.
All these stages I do by myself. And it takes quite a time, I'm telling you, guys!
I don't produce glass, and I don't melt down the glass in a kiln also. I buy the sheets of stained glass in specialized stained glass stores here in St. Petersburg or nearby Finland if I don't find needed pieces in the city. I don't buy glass online, because every piece of glass has its unique tracery and I need to see it personally. In my works, I mostly use Spectrum glass.
