LOOKING FOR A COACH IS LIKE LOOKING FOR A… DENTIST?
Going to the dentist was never one of my favorite things to do. In fact, I avoided it for years.
Then I found this Dentist, Dr. P, that just put me at ease.
He listened well, showed empathy, and appeared to be the top expert in his field.
Imagine going to the dentist, and saying: “Hey doc, the right side of my mouth hurts.” Dentist: “Ok, well let’s take a look, though I’m not sure I’ll be able to tell what it is….is it ok if I do this and this? I may use this instrument... maybe I can figure it out, but let’s give it a try, eh? Oh, and it’ll cost this much...is this ok?” Would you trust him or run for your life? *** Why is this relevant to coaching?
Because coaches are like dentists. They’re experts in their field. If a client gets as much as a tiny scent of the coach being a non-expert and insecure, they will run and never have an opportunity to improve their life.
