A new favorite of mine. 📘 Do you have a favourite or favourite books you recommend? 📚 I first heard about this book when listening to one of @drmarkhyman 's podcasts 🎧 I love it because it doesn't focus on the doomsday side of climate change, but instead on a whopping 100 different ways we can drawdown carbon from the atmosphere AND reverse global warming (prettay amazing! 😄✊). So your left feeling uplifted rather than disheartened. This is how I'll be spending my Saturday night, pretty darn sexy, I know 😉. #readersbereading #myfavouritepasstime #youguessedit #reading #drinkingtea #readingsomemore #oldsoul

Climate change is a global challenge that does not respect national borders. It is disrupting national economies and affecting lives, costing people, communities and countries dearly today and even more tomorrow. Weather patterns are changing, sea levels are rising, weather events are becoming more extreme and greenhouse gas emissions are now at their highest levels in history. ⁣ Despite this being a serious issue, I sometimes feel there's too much doom and gloom surrounding climate change. In the words of Paul Hawken in the book Drawdown, "We see global warming not as an inevitability but as an invitation to build, innovate, and effect change, a pathway that awakens creativity, compassion, and genius." Feed your algorithm with love⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Social media is a great tool to access more diverse voices and discover new people. I love it as traditional media are woefully crap at covering environmental issues (or in fact anything that doesn’t fuel consumerism)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ BUT, and I hate this word as it’s become so loaded these days, it requires CONSCIOUS use. Inflammatory comments demand a response by many people and the more divisive the statement, the more people want to wade in and shut that person down which feeds the algorithm and gives more and more exposure to hateful bullshit⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Kind, lovely, happy exchanges however tend to only last a few comments as everyone’s in agreement so you don’t have to keep wading back in to make your point and soon that lovely thread disappears whilst the vile ones triumph⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So feed your algorithm love - even if you’re the type of person who ignores the nasties make sure you love the nicies so you’re part of building a kind, fair, loving on-line world - just a heart or smiley face will do if you’re not much of a wordsmith - by keeping silent you’re allowing hateful crap to spiral⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💚 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ •⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ •⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ •⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #monkeywrenchnews #regenerativeculture #sustainableliving #ecoconcious #circulareconomy #environment #thelowimpactmovemt #ourplanetourhome #drawdown ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #climatechange #globalwarming #savetheplanet #environment #conservation #noplanetb #wearetheboat #extinctionrebellion #tellthetruth #greeninfluencer #climatejustice #youthstrike4climate #fridaysforfuture #sustainableactivist #actnow #climatebreakdown #biodiversityloss #gretathunberg

The aircraft of our dreams is getting closer to reality. On Friday, a hydrogen-powered 6-seater plane showed the world flying for 500 miles without creating air pollution is possible. For context, that’s close to flying NYC-DC-NYC or San Francisco-LA. . The cost of operating this aircraft is close to half of a typical turbine plane based on lower fuel input costs, higher powertrain efficiency, and reduced maintenance costs. This flight marks another leap forward on the emission-free aircraft trail, with earlier milestones from Solar Impulse 2 (solar-powered flight that circumnavigated the world) as well as HY4, which was the first hydrogen-powered plane that could carry more than one person. . Carbon Offsets is the intent to pay the equivalent of your emissions based on a fixed price. If I emit 1 tonne of CO2, and the cost of 1kg of CO2 is 10 cents, then I pay $100. Now this money is supposed to fund an activity that will PREVENT, REMOVE or DRAWDOWN 1 tonne of CO2 from the atmosphere. Here is a series of ideas on how we can #ownyourcarbonoffset & take personal accountability. 2. Food waste accounts for 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions, 3rd behind China & US total emissions. While food waste occurs across the supply chain, the highest waste is at retail & consumer stage. We don’t want ugly veggies, we sometimes can’t afford what’s in the shop, we buy too much or order too much. How can we offset here? Prevent food waste going to landfills where they emit methane, up to 30x the global warming potential of CO2. Until current food systems slow production, we must contain the flood of food we are experiencing. Dumpster diving: I did this once in Melbourne. The amount of good quality food we found is shocking. As a struggling student, I’d buy reduced price food at the supermarket at 10pm before it hits the dumpster. Follow @anurbanharvester on his dumpster diving adventures & find more inspo through the accounts he shares. Support local entrepreneurs who rescue wasted food & turn into products like juice, ice cream, animal feed. Or make meals & set up food banks for the underprivileged. Malaysia, we have @thelostfoodproject. Take a container when eating out & pack leftovers. Every little bit counts. According to the Watch My Waste calculator (google is your friend, look it up), 1kg of food waste emits 1.9kg of CO2 equivalent. So for every kg of tonne of food waste we save, we prevent almost twice as much emissions. Reduce food waste is number 3 in @projectdrawdown. An easy & uncomplicated way of preventing emissions.

Can dirt help save the planet? . According to last week’s UN IPCC findings, YES. Revolutionizing the way we use our lands, like agriculture, has the same potential to help decarbonize our planet as cleaning up our electricity. . Sustainable farming practices like no-till agriculture sequester carbon and lead to healthier soils with a cascade of benefits (more productive land that retains more water with less pollution for example), but the reality is they come with challenges like uprooting centuries-old family traditions. A new market that would enable farmers to be paid in unconventional ways addresses this includes “Carbon Removal Certificates” which would incentivize and pay farmers to remove carbon, an added incentive beyond playing a key role in healing our planet. . Book Recommendation: Drawdown Project Drawdown is an ambitious, world-class research organization that reviews, analyzes and shares the most viable global climate solutions. A few years ago, Andy and I had the opportunity to attend a lecture and book signing by the founder of the project, Paul Hawken. The solutions are credible, science-backed, and overall provide a dose of optimism that I certainly need at times. The book is a really great reference, but the project also details the solutions and current work online: @projectdrawdown One thing I really like is that they don’t make any radical assumptions about new technology that isn’t currently developed. Educating women and girls, managing refrigerants, and reducing food waste are some of the top solutions that really surprised me! It’s encouraging that there are so many things we CAN do, now, that have a positive impact on protecting our climate and its inhabitants. Go check out the project, I’m curious to hear what solutions surprise you, or that you plan on implementing!

Let’s be clear about carbon offsets: the intent is to pay the equivalent of your emissions based on a fixed price. If I emit 1 tonne of CO2, and the cost of 1kg of CO2 is 10 cents, then I pay $100. Now this money is supposed to fund an activity that will REMOVE or DRAWDOWN 1 tonne of CO2 from the atmosphere. I’m doing a series of ideas on how we can #ownyourcarbonoffset & take personal accountability. 1. Tree planting - trees absorb CO2. But (I know this cuz I develop reforestation plans) it can’t just be dollar for CO2; young trees need care & protection from seed predation and large mammal damage (true story - a reforestation project in Sabah had to be fenced off to protect from happy trampling elephants). Also no monocrops: Coldplay offset their album production with 10,000 mango trees in India - which caught a disease, spread and all died. Paying for tree planting or forest preservation somewhere far off removes us from actually knowing what’s the reality on the ground. In some cases, indigenous people are chased out of forests which are their home in the name of preservation & removal of human interference. This happens when areas are gazetted into national parks & protection reserves. Sabah in Malaysian Borneo has a class of community forests, which the local community takes ownership to preserve, protect & extract their resources as per their traditions. (Check Kiona @hownottotravellikeabasicbitch on why “Leave No Trace” is problematic & racist). My recommendation: find a tree or reforestation expert local to you or look up organised tree planting & restoration activities. (Malaysians, I’ve shared in my highlights & previous posts on our projects, & tagged them here). If your local landscape is not tree-friendly, what about restoring other types of natural vegetation that, while not as sexy as trees, are also important carbon sinks like grasslands & shrubs? As per @projectdrawdown restoring tropical forests is number 5, temperate forests is 12, peatlands is 13, perennial biomass such as tall grasses (which also can be harvested for bio-energy) is 51. So calculate your emissions, take your time & money to invest in increasing your local carbon sinks.

The UN report on food and climate change (https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/08/climate/climate-change-food-supply.html) is getting a lot of attention, and rightfully so. While we are 100% on board with doing everything we can to mitigate and reverse climate change, most of the media coverage, especially around cattle, is grossly oversimplified. While Paul Hawken's Drawdown (https://www.drawdown.org/solutions-summary-by-rank) lists moving towards a plant rich diet as third most impactful solution to climate change, managed grazing is also in the top twenty solutions. Look out for more from us on this topic - nuance in a single social media post is difficult, so we’ll be doing a whole series of posts over the next several days. . . . #climatesolutions #cowsandclimatechange #carbonsequestration #managementintensivegrazing #regenerativefarming #managedgrazing #climateconsciousfarming #drawdown #squarerootsfarmbeef

✨TO CREATE SOMETHING THAT DOESN’T EXIST (global equality and respect for all life), 💫TO SAVE WHAT WE CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT (the planet and biodiversity), 💥WE MUST DO WHAT HAS NEVER BEEN DONE (realize what our true wealth is: >>each other and the planet<<, not money). 🌍🤝🌈 • • It is important for each of us to spend time (however much is needed) deeply processing 🧐and coming to terms with what is happening on our planet right now—political division, environmental destruction, extreme inequality and lack of empathy, violence, corporate greed, etc etc. And furthermore, it is even more important to truly face the reality of what we will each be called to do within the next 10 years. • • It is looking as though by 2030, our path forward will be set. Until then, we believe there is much that can be done to positively shape our future and the future of this planet and all life on it. 💫 So for this #TGRtuesday , we want to leave you with this: we are going to have to CHANGE EVERYTHING💥 about our presence on this beautiful planet if we are truly to have a chance...and we mean *everything*. Yes, it won’t be easy, but complete annihilation of our planet will be worse 😫(insert nervous laughter here)🥴 • • Look for us to expand on these thoughts in future posts!! Until then...do some research🤓 and pondering... need a good place to start?! >> 🌱REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE << (Link in our bio for an amazing Ted Talk on Regen Ag!!)🌿💚 #regenerativeagriculture #weareone • graphic: unknown

Machines that pull carbon out of the atmosphere...sounds like something from futuristic science fiction, doesn’t it? But that’s exactly what’s happening right now. ⁣ ⁣ Humans have done incredible damage to the planet since the Industrial Revolution. Despite the movement toward renewable energy, coal, oil and natural gas demand hit a high in 2018. The United Nation has warned that we need to cut global emissions in half by 2030 - and many scientists go even further, stating that we need zero emissions by 2050. In order to keep our planet well below 2 degrees Celsius, we must become carbon negative, not just carbon neutral. That’s where Climeworks comes in. Their solution? Capture CO2 directly out of the air. ⁣ ⁣ How does it work? Using a machine that looks almost like a jet engine and a filter, fans draw air into a plant that CO2 becomes chemically bound to. Then, that carbon dioxide is ready to be used and stored permanently. It can be sold to use in carbonated drinks (Climeworks has a deal with Coca-Cola already), as fuel for crops, or even stored in stone and cement. ⁣ ⁣ The best part? It works. Climeworks has launched three plants, one in Iceland, Italy, and Switzerland. In Iceland, Climeworks recently scaled up so that they can capture 2,500 metric tons per year. That’s important, but it’s also relatively small when comparing to our annual emissions. Each year, we emit nearly 40 billion metric tons. In order for Climeworks to have great impact, we must support and scale plants across the world. That’s an achievable, but ambitious goal. But if it’s reached, the benefit is significant. ⁣ ⁣ Here’s the thing: there is no one solution to the climate crisis. There is no perfect plan. It cannot be done by one industry, one company, one country. Carbon capture technology is a part of the equation, as we work on all fronts to change the ways we act and the damage we cause, we also must remedy what has already been done. We are inspired by the innovation, dedication, and progress of Climeworks. To learn more about their work, check out @climeworksco2.

According to @projectdrawdown , installing a #smartthermostat in your home (and/or business) is the 57th most effective way of reversing #globalheating and preventing further #climatebreakdown (while simultaneously saving you $£€). ⁣ ⁣ They’ve calculated that if 46 percent of household with internet access installed smart thermostats by 2050, we could avoid 2.6 gigatons of carbon dioxide emissions in our atmosphere. Saving owners $640 billion on utility bills by 2050 as well.⁣ ⁣ The nifty thing about it is that most energy companies those of you reading this are being provided with energy from are offering the smart thermostats for FREE, all you have to do is contact your provider and ask for one. Some even offer free installation as well. ⁣ ⁣ It may not be the sexiest amongst the top 100 solutions we have, but it’s certainly an easy, effective and earth-friendly swap you can make this month to prep for a ‘greener’ Autumn in every sense of the word.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #consciousliving #consciousculture #consciouscommunity #drawdown #lowimpactmovement #greenliving #sustainableliving #greenliving #ethicalliving #stopfossilfuels #endfossilfuels #renewableenergy #renewableenergynow #slowliving #theartofslowliving

Look at the color of the soil on the rootball of this tree. This tree came from a grower in another part of the country where the soil is extremely deficient in organic matter. This tree was undoubtedly raised with synthetic fertilizers and LOTS of water. Now it's on a public street where it is unlikely to get either. The tree has been chemically separated from the system nature developed to support the tree. Without the rest of the system the tree is dependent on human intervention to survive. I've seen trees in soil like this before and we've restored and jump-started the system to support the tree by the natural system that was in place before we interrupted. With good organic matter and a healthy microbial community we can change this soil in a matter of months. #regeneration #regenerativefarming #RegenerativeAgriculture #regenerative #sustainableliving #sustainableagriculture #regenerativelandscapes #regenerativekc #regenerativedesign #greenlife #greeninfrastructure #gardens #gardensofinstagram #gardening #gardeningtips #kcgardens #kcgardening #soilhealth #soilisthekey #drawdownkc #drawdownecochallenge #drawdown

We remain this icon's greatest predator and only possible champion. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Beyond infinite altruistic reasons, humans have more reasons to save elephants than ever before. While we scramble to find innovative ways to reverse climate breakdown, remember that elephants are not only wise, compassionate and self-aware creatures—they are also the gardeners and engineers of the forests. This means simply by going about their day as they have for the last 15 million years, they are naturally steadfast carbon sequesters. Elephants reverse climate change. . How? The giant pads on their feet get stuck with seeds and they plant them as they roam; they knock down fast-growing vegetation so slow-growing (carbon sequestering!) wood trees can take their place; and eating 600 pounds of food a day means their dung is packed with seeds, bringing with it new plants and trees. As a keystone species, by protecting these jumbos we’re ensuring a world where other creatures and ecosystems can thrive. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s up to all of us to decide if we are okay with continuing to steal this creature from future generations. Populations have plunged 30% in the last decade mainly due to habitat destruction, poaching, and human-wildlife conflict. We refuse to enable a world where elephants only exist in children’s storybooks. #worldelephantday ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Photo | Okavango Delta, Botswana ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #worldelephantday2019 #ourfragileearth #drawdown #future #sciencebased #sciencebased #elephantconservation #thinkbigger #carbonsink #carbonsequester #amazingearth #climategoals #climatesolution #climatechaos #extinctionrebellion #interconnected #climate #WED #bekindtoelephants #saynotoivory #habitat #habitatprotection #okavangodelta #okavango #botswana #protect #habitatdestruction #gardenersofafrica #greatelephantcencus

in reimagining how to live well without fossil fuels, we don’t have to reinvent the wheel. we can look to a sound, ancient history of using tools to extend human power, and we can reinvent for a lower energy future based on an efficient, slow, holistic, equitable, sustainable model. . fossil fuels so easily, if so destructively, accomplished a task that, in the couple of hundred years we have been dependent on them, simpler solutions have been ignored. do i need a tonnage of metal and motor just to get my body to the grocer? do i need to drive a vehicle round my garden just to trim the grasses to my liking? is it necessary to put vegetables into boats, airplanes, trains, just so i can eat my dinner? can my clothing, shoes really not be produced locally from plants and from animal fibres, must it exploit people and damage rivers and soils? what do i truly require to live? . it looks clear to me that we could trim a staggering amount of our resource use and not even feel the pinch. it looks clear to me that we all stand to gain so much when we do. . invention then, based on what we truly need, can move into our own workshops. this little project that friends and family have been helping us with is coming along nicely. the electric bicycle and trailer, modified a little for different needs, extends our reach significantly. we use it to haul firewood, sacks of chicken feed, boxes of sawdust, lengths of lumber, bins of recycling. we rarely need a vehicle thanks to these tools. . down the road, our friend david builds not only electric bicycles but an electric trailer capable of moving 300lbs of whatever it is you need really. small businesses might use it to convert to bicycle with tremendous efficiency. we needn’t use the biggest hammer to strike the smallest nail. . if this looks more like having fun making things than adapting in place, that’s because it is a pleasure. it feels good to take your life in your hands. seeing as we need to reinvent how we live, urgently, for our whole planet’s sake, we might as well envision a good life as well as a sustainable one.

We are not fans of swag. So much of it goes straight to the landfill. It does feel nice to be able to give a little thank you gift to the folks who have paused and let us tell them about our service and educate them on commercial composting and mitigating climate change. So, I came up with this little giveaway. I make these samples of @whogivesacraptp bamboo toilet paper. Each roll is individually wrapped in one of these super cute black and white papers so I reuse the wrapping to make the sample. It’s a plastic-free tp solution and we are super fans. Tag someone who is trying to reduce single-use plastics. . . . #collectiveresource #commercialcomposting #compost #zerowaste #foodscrapdiversion #divert #illinoisfoodscrapcoalition #sustainability #climatechangeisreal #drawdown

Sabías que plantar árboles está considerado como una de las 15 soluciones más eficientes para luchar contra el calentamiento global? (Junto a eliminar refrigerantes, usar energía eólica, luchar contra los desperdicios de alimentos, comer vegetariano, etc.). An oldey from the World Economic Forum Now it’s much too late to consider carbon off-setting. If we dealt with the eco-crisis 10 years ago it’s possible flying wouldn’t be such a big issue as it is now - mostly because airlines would have got on with developing clean tech airlplanes instead of pissing carbon into the atmosphere The only way to show them we mean business now is to stay on the ground. Do you think you could not fly for one year??? That doesn’t mean no travel - nopey nope nope - it means creative travel One year of no flying in Sweden forced the national airline to REVOLUTIONISE their business. So YOU have the power to bring that sort of impact here - check out @flightfree2020 for more Expand your identity from being a consumer to being a citizen and activist 💚 #monkeywrenchnews #flyless

Meet Anna @flightfree2020 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The amazing brain and supersonic energy ball behind @flightfree2020 - I’d like to thank her for her work ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Inspired by the Swedish flight shaming movement (although she’s keen not to shame others), she is trying to help us reduce our dependence on flights in the UK. There were a record number of flights of 220,000 on one day this summer coincidentally on the same day that was the hottest we’ve had in a millennia! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Her campaign is building momentum and by the end of the year we’re both hoping to have a petition of hundreds of thousands of signatures to introduce a flight levy to reduce frequent flying - not targeted at people who really need to fly of which there are surprisingly few but at the 15% who take 70% of the flights which damage us all (most have only recently woken to this but now we know let’s do something about it) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Swipe right to see a couple of useful sites where you can compare your travel and measure your impact 👍🏼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The atmosphere is a ‘relatively’ closed system so think of flying like peeing in a swimming pool. If one or two people do it you’ll barely notice, if everyone does it that atmospheric pool will become a toxic stink fest pretty damm quick - oh wait, it already has ... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Change isn’t easy as our entire travel industry is designed and advertised around cheap flights so it takes real Imagination to think of how to travel differently. But I reckon you’ve got this so share you’re amazing flight-free travel plans far and wide and if you tag us and/or hashtag #monkeywrenchnews we’ll share your travel inspiration too • • • • #monkeywrenchnews #regenerativeculture #sustainableliving #ecoconcious #environment #thelowimpactmovemt #ourplanetourhome #drawdown #climatechange #globalwarming #savetheplanet #environment #conservation #noplanetb #greeninfluencer #climatejustice #youthstrike4climate #fridaysforfuture #sustainableactivist #actnow #climatebreakdown #gretathunberg

Do you always do you best to get rid of your plastic waste responsibly? Recycling what you can and safely disposing everything else into general waste? That's great (and the world needs more people like you), BUT... Unfortunately, you can be the most responsible recycler in the world, and still be contributing to the marine plastic pollution crisis. That's because plastic waste 'leaks' from our waste management streams in lots of different places - during collection, transportation and processing. One of the jobs that our Plastic Drawdown model helps with is identifying where, when and why those leakages occur so that the most effective interventions can be made to stop it happening. #commonseas #plasticdrawdown #oceanplastic #ocean #plasticleakage #plasticwasteflow #drawdown #government #wedges #model #policyintervention #pollution #change #newrules #news #law #ban #protectnature #oceanconservation #blueplanet

#Repost @ourgroundedgrowth • • • • • • #RegenerativeAgriculture is becoming all the rage . . . but it does not belong to the corporations or the politicians -- don't let either of them mess it up! They have their role, but this movement is truly #FromTheGroundUp . . . it belongs to the #farmers who created it! For those of us who are not farmers this means we have to support what farmers are doing. We need to make sure they are at the table when policy is written. Case in point, the Green New Deal must support farmers not regulate them. We can get through the climate crisis and have food to eat if we support soil health and regenerative ag. #regenerativeag #regenerativekc #regenerativedesign #regenerativepolicy #greenlife #greennewdeal #sunrisemvmt #sunrisemovementkc #sierraclub #kcclimatecoalition #drawdown #drawdownecochallenge #drawdownkc #loveyourfarmer #loveyourcommunity #loveyourfood #loveyourself

Have you tried co-composting with biochar? . Compost amended with Biochar at early stage produces a higher quality soil amendment that finishes faster, produces less odors, and holds up better to adverse weather conditions. . Did we mention biochar also reduces GHG emissions during active composting, retains nutrients (especially nitrogen), and stimulates biological activity and diversity . #biochar #compost #soilbuilding #terrapreta #soil #soilhealth #healthysoil #soilscience #carbonfarming #bioenergy #drawdown #carbonnegative #carbonsequestration #climatechange #regenerativeagriculture #agroecology #climatesmartagriculture #livingsoil #renewableenergy #biomass #forestry #foresthealth #fireecology #soilfoodweb #feedthesoil #permaculture #organic #sustainablefarming #conservationagriculture #biocharista

Industrial agriculture is currently a root cause of ecological, economic, and biological disaster and destruction. Small, independent, regenerative farms not only downscale our dependence on fossil fuels and globalization, but they put power back into the hands of the marginalized world-wide, and also rebuild and regenerate communities. By downsizing large-scale productions, diversifying, and following nature’s way, we can reinstate biodiversity, drawdown carbon, and make crops more resilient to drought, disease, and floods...all while creating healthy food, ecosystems, and people. Let us choose *commUNITY* and *regeneration* over profits. Power to the *people and planet*, NOT the corporations. 👊🌏💓🌱 • • #tribegreenrising #vandanashiva #farmtotable #regenerativeagriculture #farming #agriculture #climatechange #drawdown #soilhealth #carbonsequestration #rotationalgrazing #beyondorganic #ranching #supportlocal #healthysoil #biologicallyactive #robustcompost #organicgardening #organicfarming #soilnerds #whatsinyoursoil #commUNITY #ethicalomnivore #local #environment #planet #regenerativerevolution

From the National Drought Mitigation Center: “US #Drought Monitor 8 8 19: Moderate drought (D1) or worse covers almost 4.4% of the Lower 48 area. Hot and dry weather brought broad expansion of abnormal dryness (D0) across much of High Plains and Midwest. In Alaska, heavy rains provided relief to central and northern regions.” Learn more: https://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/

@hollyrose.eco Posted this a while back and it really resonated at the time as it does today. I’m sure many of us get pangs of anxiety as we read the news or scroll through our insta feeds or like us spend hours researching how to do things better and not have a negative impact - better still, have a positive one. @hollyrose.eco Is a wonderful source of insights and research based information that will inspire you to fight for change and join together to save our planet 💚 ・・・ Much of the information we see in our headlines create & perpetuates eco-anxiety.⁣ ⁣ We have a choice when these feelings bubble up; fear the future and be fueled by that fear to change it, or ignore it, and allow our civilization to perish. Because the truth at its base is becoming harder to ignore, I thought I’d share my dissonance-free coping mechanisms. Built from solid sources of serenity and of hope that have transformed my reality for the better.⁣ ⁣ SERENITY⁣ Get outside as soon as the feeling rises, even if you’re in a city, or at work, search out your nearest source of nature for as long as you need / can. It’s important to try to reflect and reset while in communion with the very thing you wish to protect, most often a bird or animal will come by with a wink or a message. ⁣ ⁣ HOPE⁣ Once you feel rebalanced and centered, remind yourself / invest time in learning the most hopeful & impactful solutions. For me, the corners of great hope I cling to and am most inspired by come from @projectdrawdown @kisstheground @fibershed_ ... This trio talks about effective (&magical) ways of reversing #globalheating and #climatebreakdown by educating and implementing #regenerative systems which protect our future & #drawdown carbon to be sequestered. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣

Look closely, and you can grasp the scale of the crop circles by the interstate running below and the hint of a farmstead in the lower right-hand corner. It’s hard to believe that electricity and land use are EQUAL DRIVERS of climate change (each are 25%). Today’s UN IPCC shows both are equally vital to reaching 1.5C—but of course decarbonizing electricity gets much more funding and attention. Takeaway: land use is a huge chunk of our solution. If done right, farming can help avoid climate breakdown. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ © Edward Burtynsky ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #ourfragileearth #drawdown #uscroplands #agriculture #future #unitednations #unipcc #sciencebased #texaspanhandle #edwardburtynsky #science #innovate #innovation #thinkbigger #carbonsink #ipcc #sr15 #SRCCL #aerial #scale #amazingearth #climategoals #farming #climatesolution #carbonsequestration #carbon #dirt #humus #cropland
