This is a deep one and maybe controversial. I just spoke to my client C. We had celebrated her new pregnancy a couple months ago and now, at 14 weeks, she has found out her baby has Down Syndome. She was devastated. We have been talking for a long time about what’s “good”, what’s “bad”, what makes you “happy” or “sad”. What we choose to judge as a positive or negative experience, as a gift or a burden. It was a deep one. I have several clients and friends with DS babies and they now talk about them as their biggest blessing. So, could that special chromosome bring you a special gift? You decide. . I am no one to tell you what you should be happy about, but I will challenge you to think by yourself and ask your soul, without anyone else’s opinions or society judgements. . So, with whatever life throws at you: you decide. 🙏❤️🙏

K, the quiet observer, inquisitive by nature and N, who loves any opportunity NOT to hold Mom's hand, surprised me with 4.5 hrs of Zoo exploration. And we didn't see everything. So I got a Family Membership. #oaklandzoo . . . I thought K would think he was too old but he loves facts, antedotes and generally any sort of statistic. He would spew out random facts about grizzly bears, tigers or animals we observed. N was fine walking around and socializing with all the little humans.

MICROSOFT VISITS EVOLUER "If we look for Similarities, and NOT Differences, we will demystify Diversity." In their strive for celebrating diversity and Delivering sensitization, a young team from Microsoft spent a day with the Students of Evoluer. The students designed and delivered a presentation on 'WHO WE ARE' - their strengths & areas of improvements, their dreams and aspirations, what a typical day looks like @Evoluer and the things they like doing the best. The students displayed clarity of thought, self-knowledge, outstanding communication skills, HUMOR; and OF COURSE exceptional Technology Skills. We thank the Microsoft team for LISTENING and VALIDATING the effort that the students made. I N T R O D U C I N G ... 🌿 Everett Jeremy Thilgen 🌿 Born July 6 at 1:22 p.m. 6 lbs 9 oz • 18.5” . . . The past 10 days have been some of the hardest, but also filled with so much love. Not unlike his big sister, baby boy made an early and unexpected entrance via an unscheduled/emergency c-section on Saturday, July 6. Our little lion came roaring into the world crying with ferocity and peeing wildly! Everett made his presence known. • While he didn’t come when or how we had hoped, Greg and I are just ever so grateful that he arrived earthside safely. Thankfully mama was able to have much more bonding time post-op than expected, but Everett was still whisked away to the NICU for monitoring about an hour and a half after birth, where he has remained even after mom was discharged this past Wednesday. • Our strong boy has already overcome many issues: low blood sugar, high blood count, low platelets, jaundice. He underwent phototherapy for two days to get his bilirubin levels down. Everett had far too many heel pokes and blood draws in his first few days of life, but he’s still as sweet as can be. The best news is that his complete AV canal (heart defect) turned out to be a partial, so he is not symptomatic at this point. (We expected breathing troubles.) One less thing for him to worry about in this already tough newborn stage. • What’s keeping him in the NICU are complicated feeding issues, and he’s had a feeding tube since day 3. Everett and mama are working with speech therapists every day (as well as lactation consultants) to get him where he needs to be. Mommy and Daddy desperately want to bring Baby Brother home so he can finally meet Big Sis but we still have a ways to go. Prayers and positive vibes are welcome and so appreciated as our family navigates this time. • Our hearts are tender but our love for our son overflows and mends up our brokenness. We’ve known all along that he’d be a fighter, and we will get him home. We didn’t want to wait any longer and are thrilled to finally share our precious Everett Jeremy with all of you! ❤️

The hidden wealth that is mysterious to all is the love of a parent to their children... you want to see people around you flip out? #MakeLotsOfBabies #Repost @catholicconnect ・・・ General Charles De Gaulle is well known throughout modern history as the leader of the Free French Forces. What is not as well known is that his youngest daughter Anne (January 1, 1928 - February 6, 1948) had Down syndrome. Although public perception of the time was that children born with Down syndrome were a result of their parents alcoholism, venereal disease or overall degeneracy, the De Gaulles rejected this notion, choosing instead to raise Anne like their other two children. Their personal life became very private and Anne was raised at home, not in an institution (as was common practice at the time). It has been said often that Anne was Charles' favorite child. Described as a man who ranged from cocky to stoic by nature, he was a different person around Anne, reportedly describing her as "My joy". He is said to have read stories and sang songs to her and showed an affection that he rarely showed others, even those in his own household. Anne was raised to feel no less or different than anyone else. After the war, Charles and his wife Yvonne founded the Fondation Anne de Gaulle, a home for disabled girls, many of which had intellectual impairments. In 1948, Anne succumbed to pneumonia, a month after her 20th birthday and died in her father's arms. Upon her death, he is said to have remarked "Maintenant, elle est comme les autres." ("Now, she is like the others."). He carried a portrait of Anne with him at all times; he claimed that her portrait saved his life by stopping a bullet in an assassination attempt in 1962. When Charles died, he was buried beside his beloved Anne. . So glad to see you smile after the painful blood extractions on both arms. It was heartbreaking to watch them extract blood from your tiny arms. But you're brave and strong, Baby Lia. The blood test was needed to determine your thyroid function, a recommended test for babies with Down Syndrome. You reassured us with your smile, Lia. #downsyndrome #trisomy21 #LiaAmazing #extrachromosome #extrahappiness

Monday’s are for Q+A’s and today’s round of #raisinglittleworldchangers is about m-i-l-e-s-t-o-n-e-s. This is a BIG word for those of us raising Littles with different abilities. This is a word that can overwhelm you in the beginning.... thoughts like “Will she ever..? Can she ever....? What if she never...?” This is also a word that can bring you to tears the moment you see your child reach the milestone they’ve been working SO hard for. We celebrate every step of the journey. • We work together daily and we’re in therapies weekly, progressing and working on the next milestones. Bella has taught me so much about progress, consistency and 🇳🇪🇻🇪🇷 🇬🇮🇻🇮🇳🇬 🇺🇵 • • We just hit a major milestone in our house, Bella started walking independently.🙌🏼👏🏼 I am SO proud of our babe and absolutely love seeing her cruise around the house now. Our next big one is Communication. We just finished the 6 week Hanen communication class and are incorporating Montessori materials at home for early communication. We also sign with Bella and follow her lead in communicating. 🖤 #onedayatatime #progress #specialneedsmom #specialneedsparenting #dslove #downsyndrome #chromosomecutie #theluckyfew #speechtherapy #nothingdownaboutit #homiewithanextrachromie #chromosomallyenhanced #celebratetheirjourney

If you’ve followed my IG stories earlier, you’ll know that our Sandwich Hag neighbor came over today, to tell us to turn the music down. I wasn’t there. Sugar was...and was very offended by it. 😂 Here is the part where I didn’t post on stories. _ I love him. Fireworks, bitch. 🤣

This has become so relevant, and an incredible lesson that I’ve learned while growing up with Michael ⁣ ⁣ There’s so many times where I plan out how my day, week, or year will look, and life decides to throw something different instead. This is especially true while hanging out with Michael- if he doesn’t want to do something, too bad 🤷🏼‍♀️ ⁣ ⁣ In those moments, rather than fighting past the current, it’s best to surrender and flow. To find an area where you may grow, and allow yourself to glow ✨
