I’ve been spending a lot of time these past 2 years on the road, and I can honestly say that I’ve never quite encountered a hotel like this one. Without question, it is hands down THE most whimsical and thoughtfully-designed spaces I’ve ever stayed in. Every element of this hotel reflects the confluence of art, science, and innovation - whoever masterminded this place is one goddamn creative motherfucker. Yes, there are careful curated art pieces adorned on every wall and random corner of this hotel. Yes, every room comes readily equipped with Alexa to enable convenience and generational laziness. Yes, the glass shower in the smack centre of each room is basically a functional art installation. Yes, there are robots named Leo and Cleo who are at your beck and call to bring you room service. And yes, I was that skeptical asshole who needed to test this service by demanding everything from multiple orders of toothpaste to cookies and nut milk. This place was paradise.
The point of this post is not for me to simply rave about the gimmicks and gadgets of this hotel. Having spent a significant amount of time being on the road for work these past few months, I’ve come to realize how much I’ve missed the creature comforts of being at home. I would dare to say that the novelty and allure of going from hotel to hotel is starting to wear off, simply because it’s hard not to feel a little displaced by a lack of routine. And sadly, travelling so frequently has taken a huge toll on my personal creative pursuits .
But that being said, it was this recent experience of staying at this particular hotel that reminded me to revisit my priorities and think about creating art again. I joke about the slick design aesthetic and cool robots, but the most compelling aspect of this hotel was its commitment to providing a visceral experience that marries creativity with science... even down to the calligraphied quotes written on the back of the shower curtains. I’m as equally impressed as I am inspired. This place really got it right .
