Today is #worldphotoday , meant to remember the invention of the photographic process in 1837. Some say digital cameras reinvented photography; I don’t see it that way, it’s just another way to do the same thing, capture and preserve an image. I made this photo about 15 years ago with the second digital camera I owned, a Nikon E990 with resolution rated at a whopping 3.3 megapixels. The scene, atop Hawaii’s Haleakala Crater at sunrise, was one of the most inspiring I’ve witnessed while making photos. Minutes before, we were engulfed in thick clouds, lost in a misty fog. Then suddenly the clouds lifted like a thick curtain, revealing this crystal-clear view. Since then I’ve continued to remind myself that the camera doesn’t make all that much difference. To make decent photos I just need to keep putting myself in interesting places and situations with interesting people. In other words, keep getting out there. Happy #worldphotoday.
