My Cuticle Oil. I don't have a new manicure to post this week so I am posting my cuticle oil concoction. I like some of the commercially available cuticle oil pens, but I use so much of the stuff that buying those is prohibitively expensive. So, like so many in the nail community, I make my own. I use three Aura Cacia oils, mix them in equal parts, and fill a dropper bottle with the oil. I use the dropper to refill my oil pens. I oil my nails and surrounding skin a few times per day.
I initially used jojoba oil on it own, but I found that mixing it with some other oils helped it absorb more easily. I chose avocado and apricot kernel oil because they are ingredients in some oil pens that I tried and liked. I suspect that companies use apricot kernel oil because it is cheap rather than for any particular property of the oil, but I like it mixed with other oils.
If you need to know how to refill a plastic oil pen, @natashaleeblogger explains it well in her YouTube video entitled "How to Refill a Cuticle Oil Pen." I don't pry the backs off myself; I grip them with a flexible plastic jar opener and pull. That usually does the job.
