#20point2 is LONG. The Thruster was too heavy to hold my initial thoughts of keeping an EMOM pace. Still unbroken through out and happy with it. My tips, have a realistic idea of your sustainable pace, set up where you can see the clock and use it to keep you on plan. From there space out your equipment a distance that allows your transition to be roughly all the rest you need. Have fun and good luck! It can also save your nervous system due to the fact you don’t need to use as much weight and you focus on the speed of the lift. This week I had the amazing opportunity to travel to San Diego and address the CrossFit Seminar Staff at the 2019 Training Summit. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Thank you @nicole.carroll and @thedavecastro once again for having me. I really appreciated the chance to share some of my thoughts and preliminary research that borrow heavily from the CrossFit methodology. ⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Thank you to all the Staff who were so welcoming and kind. You asked excellent questions and I hope what I shared will be of value to you all moving forward. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ To attempt summarize the gist of my presentation in just a few words:⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ the CrossFit approach improves work capacity across broad time and modal domains, whereas most of the research in exercise science has employed a very short list of modalities and a narrow range of effort durations. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Therefore, looking to the academic literature for ‘validation’ of CrossFit doesn’t make a lot of sense. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ In my view, academic scientists should be looking more at industry to inform their research. That’s what we’re currently doing in my laboratory, and I had the opportunity to share some of he first steps we’re taking as a result of our new perspective. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ It’s a bit challenging to get into the weeds here on IG but let’s just say... Contrary to popular belief, the bench press is not inherently bad for your shoulders ❌ - However, some people do experience shoulder pain when they bench, but there are steps you can take to keep on training! - If you have shoulder pain while benching, don't just stop benching - Follow this formula to start getting back to pain free benching! 💪 - 🔹 Step 1 - decrease load. If 225 hurts your shoulder, drop down to 185 for a while - 🔹 Step 2 - decrease volume. Instead of doing 10 x 10, try 5 x 10 - 🔹 Step 3 - change tempo. Slowing down the tempo will force you to reduce the load, and slower movements are often easier on achy body parts - 🔹 Step 4 - decrease ROM. Most people have pain at the bottom of the lift, so cut that position out of your training for a little - 🔹 Step 5 - if nothing else works, try a different bench variation. This could be incline/decline, dumbbell benching, paused reps, even pushups! - Start at step 1, and if making that change helps, stay there! - If it doesn't, slowly move down the list until you find what gets you back to benching with less pain! 🏋️‍♀️ - Tag somebody who's always complaining about their bench! - Please leave any questions or comments below! —————————————— Disclaimer: This is not medical advice. Let's go 20.2. The Open 2019 was my first one. Shorter than a year of Crossfit. By the time the open came I wasn't able to do one single Double Under and T2B were like the most terrible thing ever to be created. I scaled (AF and with #NoShame ) 19.2, I scaled it and felt like I'd conquered so much already by being in the open and actually manage to do a few 62kg Squat cleans that felt as the heaviest thing ever. So 20.2 is out. HURRAAAAYY 🎉 (Wtf @thedavecastro ? 20min??) I you know what? I'm not scaling this time. Isn't fucking amazing? Who would've thought?? Not that I can go 200 DU's UBKN like some athletes I know and admire. Nor I'm @alecsmith8 with mad gymnastics skills 🤸‍♂️ but I can do both movements. I actually can... And it feels amazing. I'm already going in as a winner to this WOD 🏆 At least, I'll feel like that during the first 3' maybe the first 5' then I'll feel like my lungs are on fire and my legs too! I'll have my hands protected with the @igolasfitness BEE GRIPS 🐝 So, those will be fine 💫 It's really amazing how grateful one moment can make you feel. How months of training, of effort, dieting, of transforming your body, your mindset, of hard work that no one sees. Teared hands, teared ego. Tears and actual physical pain (There's no such thing as a NOT melodramatic crossfitter 🤣) that sometimes just feels like aimless work brings you to this...
