“National Suicide Prevention Month”
• I had created a water colour painting a couple of years ago which was the base for this original idea. I’ve been thinking how there is so much art out there that is pretty and positive and amazing. However, In my past I had been swallowed by some pretty nasty images and thoughts and feelings, I did my share of self harm, hospital stay, therapy. This is the first time and I’m 52, that I’ve been able to feel brave enough to say in public, yes I was all the way there and now I’m here. It did not happen overnight, but one second at a time, turned to one minute of life, turned to a whole day of success and then happiness! If I can do it, so can you. I see you, you are not invisible. Ask your doctor for help but you have to be honest, they can’t help you if you are not honest about where you are at. -
• In light of September being “ #National Suicide Prevention Month” I wanted to share a new piece of art, a combination of my watercolour painting from the past and the edit version I created on my computer. -
• This new mixed media piece is my personal inner expression and can be both the drama and depth of how I felt in my pain and isolation and simultaneously it shows a nude figure of a woman’s back, rising from the shadows....renewed!
• My story is not your story but this is what this painting is to me. If it helps someone out there see they are not alone, I hope they find a way to scribble lines on a page, or pound a drum or run to the end of the street and back to express their darkness for at the bottom of it, and it will not happen over night, you WILL find your beautiful perfect soul that lives under the muck. He/she is still in there. But you have to get out of bed, stand up, brush your teeth. That’s all I’m asking. Just for today. Just for this very moment that you took the time to read and breathe tells me, you have faith in yourself. I want you to say, “I am #grateful for this feeling of awe. I feel the sun on my cheeks, the grass on my toes, the light that fills me. “I am whole and loveable just as I am.” And so it is. 🙏🏼❤️
