my dear friend took me to this unreal Caribbean crystal blue lake nestled in Colorado mountains. i lived in this county for 4 years and have never seen anything like it. till now.
we hiked up through the browns, greens, tans and yellows of high alpine. the peaks and the views were enthralling us. then we made it up here and the sight of the lake appeared. the striking blues prevented us from looking away and pulled our legs to its edge. the Colorado sun was dipping in and out of clouds. warm and summery when the sun was out, cold and chilly when it was hidden.
we both wanted to jump in because it was so alluring and because life is too short. i dipped my hand in to test the temperature and it was like a cooler of ice. we sat for a few minutes, staring up into the sky and waiting for the sun to make an appearance long enough to dip while it was warm. suddenly, the clouds cleared and there was a small patch of blue hugging the circle in the sky. ‘f it, now is the time’ we shot up and Balazs quickly stripped down and jumped in first so i could capture la moment. he dove in, splashing around for a few minutes, exhilarated. high off cold water and edgy decisions. he made his way out and i stripped down and waded in clumsily, stepping and slipping on slick rocks. as soon as i dove in and my head was jolted by cold blue, i made my way back out. also exhilarated, also awake and very shocked alive. the sun disappeared as quickly as it appeared so we were left shivering but smiling ear to ear.
we spent the rest of the hike down trying to warm up but so enthralled by those deep and light blues that covered our bodies and hair and filled our minds with magic. 🖤
