One of the recurring questions we get is "What is the full extent of Cochin, or Cochin State? " Some people get confused with what comprises of Kochi or Cochin now.
Is it just Fort Cochin? Or Fort Cochin and Mattancherry combined? What is Ernakulam? A city, town, district?
So many unanswered questions. May be this map will help you get to it.
In the image you find the full extent of Cochin State, a Princely State under the British Empire. The State is divided into 5+1 Taluks namely Cochin-Kanayannur, Mukundapuram, Trichur, Thalapilli, Chittur and tiny Cranganur where the chief paid a tribute to Cochin.
If you notice carefully, there is no Fort Cochin in this map because that was British Cochin or the Fort, administered by Madras Presidency.
All of this was Cochin before the state joined the Indian Union along with Travancore State.
