🌿 My last post was about how we NEED support from a higher level if we want to keep this planet beautiful and habitable for future generations. 🌿 In contrast this photo shows a super simple example of a way we have power at an individual level. Reducing our impact on Mother Earth and using the power we have when we purchase things is HUGE. Tagged are brands I love and have switched too using. 🌿 Individual action is important and grass roots action HAS influenced government decision making and I believe it will continue to do so. But it is such an uneven playing field. In the current system we are in, a handful of people could shift millions of dollars of fossil fuel subsidies to subsidise solar systems, community gardens, could give back indigenous land or invest in electric public transport and that is just crazy. 🌿 We need both and we need to be loud about it. I’ll be here using reducing my impact on this earth as best I can while still demanding that those that have more power rethink what they value and what that looks like. 🌿 Drop your thoughts or learnings from the worldwide protest week ✊🏼 🌿 P.s. Discount code for @theecobrush in my highlight. 👌🏼 . . . . . . . . #reduce #reuse #lowwaste #lowimpact #zerowaste #greenliving #ecoliving #systemchange #systemchangenotclimatechange #purchasepower #ecofriendly #climateaction #motherearth #pachamama #protectourplanet #protectpapatūānuku

“Keeping goats has helped me so much. They are easy to keep because they are drought resistant. Their medication is affordable and you don’t need to keep an eye on them all the time. With this drought, I have managed to take my children to school from selling one goat with some surplus money I have bought some food for our family” says Richard who is a member of the Lupani Farmers’ Club. DAPP Zambia runs many Famers’ Clubs projects which aim to strengthen resilience and food security in Pemba, Monze and Namwala Districts of Southern Province. Crop diversification and improved sustainable methods of agriculture like conservation farming, are some of the teachings at the center of the Project’s trainings to the members. The package come with rain-gauge use to gauge the amount of water in their fields, temperature readings to determine moisture content in the soil and all the farmers are under index insurance cover, from which they can claim compensation in times of drought like this one. · · · · · · #ClimateCrisis #Resilience #Zambia #ClimateChange #SmartFarming #SmallScaleFarming #globalwarming #climateaction #drought #goats #goatfarmer #FarmersClubs #DAPPZambia #Take10Volunteer

🗑 TRASH BAGS are a handy invention for people with dirty trash. ⠀⠀ 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 But is there a way around this for the average family? We’ve found that the necessity seems unavoidable until... ⠀⠀ 🍌 ...You start composting! The things causing the most mess in the bin are food scraps. (Making us prefer to line the bin with plastic instead of just dumping the trash straight from our waste bin into the big black cart.) ⠀⠀ 🌯 When you’re not throwing such messy items into the trash anymore, it is a lot less of a pain to just dump and occasionally rinse your trash receptacle. ⠀⠀ 💵 And you save money not having to buy trash bags anymore! ⠀⠀ 😱 Fancy a multi million dollar industry creating trash to deal with our trash. Sounds pretty dystopian to us!

🥤 Is that drink you’re about to buy worth the 450-1000 YEARS that it will take the environment to break down that plastic cup and straw? ⠀⠀ ❓ These are the questions we should ask ourselves when we forget to bring our own water with us, or a reusable cup/bottle to our favorite juice store. ⠀⠀ 🙋🏻‍♀️ ”But what if I recycle them?” ...sadly a lot of what we throw into our recycling bins ends up in landfill or the natural environment anyway. ⠀⠀ 📖 A 2017 study in the Science Advances journal, which looked at all the plastic ever made and where it ended up, said: ‘Of the 8.3 billion metric tons that has been produced, 6.3 billion metric tons has become plastic waste. ⠀⠀ ♻️ Of that, only nine percent has been recycled. The vast majority—79 percent—is accumulating in landfills or in the natural environment as litter.

🥜 BULK BAGS are a great way to transport bulk goods from the supermarket to your house, completely TRASH FREE! 🍫 You can get a lot of the same things you purchase in the other aisles, but without all the questionable plastic packaging! 🏋️‍♀️ You can weigh out exactly the amounts you want/need which cuts down on wastage when you’re otherwise forced to buy a whole package of something even if you only needed a tablespoon or two. 🍚 Think about all the typical things you buy in your groceries right now, and see whether there’s a trash free alternative in your local supermarket bulk section. 💰 Not only does it save on the trash you’re throwing out after every shopping trip. But you’ll find you save money too!

Uhhh, nope. Math is hard, apparently. Facts matter. Nothing much has changed except for the opposition’s efforts to double down on misinformation and hyperbole. We let the experts do their thing and this is what they have to say: “”We found that while the clean fuel standard will cost the average household $5 a month in 2030, that same household’s energy costs will have declined $22 by then, meaning they’re actually coming out ahead to the tune of $17 a month,” Woynillowicz said.” Read the full breakdown through the #linkinbio

The world’s coral reefs are suffering, and chemicals commonly found in sunscreen contribute to the problem. - When you swim with sunscreen on, chemicals like oxybenzone can seep into the water, where they’re absorbed by corals. These substances contain nanoparticles that can disrupt coral’s reproduction and growth cycles, ultimately leading to bleaching. - A single drop of this compound in more than 4 million gallons of water is enough to endanger organisms. - An estimated 14,000 tons of sunscreen is believed to be deposited in oceans annually with the greatest damage found in popular reef areas such as Hawaii and the Caribbean. - 💬Did you know this? 💬Have you changed how you protect yourself from the sun? - ➡️Follow @eco_alyn ➡️Follow @eco_alyn ➡️Follow @eco_alyn - 💚Help us raise awareness and share 💚 - - #sustainability #climatechange #coralreef #bamboo #savethegreatbarrierreef #saynotoplastic #nomoreplastic #planetorplastic #plasticsucks #greenpeace #plasticfreeoceans #lesswaste #strikes #savethewhales #savetheanimals #saveourplanet #carbonfootprint #breakfreefromplastic #climatechangeisreal #climateaction #nature #green #eco #ecofriendly #earth #gogreen #reuse #ocean #greenhousegases

Fashion Industry is allegedly the 2nd most polluting industry which is a really hard to verify fact due to very intricate supply chains in the fashion industry. But undoubtedly the fashion industry is one of the major polluting industries in the world. The production and distribution of the crops, fibers, and garments used in fashion all contribute to differing forms of environmental pollution, including water, air, and soil pollution. As per reports by McKinsey and Qantis, and a article published by The NewYork Times : Consider the following: * Nearly three-fifths of all clothing ends up in incinerators or landfills within a year of being produced. * More than 8 percent of global greenhouse-gas emissions are produced by the apparel and footwear industries. * And, around 20 to 25 percent of globally produced chemical compounds are utilized in the textile-finishing industry. Make conscious choices of what you choose to wear and what brands to follow. It starts with YOU. #TogetherWeCan #TheCleanProject #greenpeaceindia #gretathunberg #lbb #fridaysforfuture #extinctionrebellion #lbbdelhi #wakeupindia #instadaily #climatewarrior #climatecrisis #climateactionnow #climateaction #extinctionrebellionindia #plasticfreeocean #saveglaciers #swachbharatabhiyan #narendramodi #fashionpollution

Wealthier nations that are better equipped to fight climate change are not prioritizing the issue. Projections made by scientists do give them some leeway, but in the fine print lie the myriad countries that will suffer, or even implode, before the developed world takes a major hit. Topography, latitude, and wealth all contribute to their respective ability to withstand climate change, leaving some nations in imminent danger. Kiribati and other Pacific islands are in especially poor shape due to their fragile ecosystems, susceptibility to flooding and tropical storms, and generally tourist-driven economies. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres made helping these nations a top priority during the U.N. General Assembly, but world leaders are still reluctant to so much as acknowledge the extreme threats to the developing world that warrant immediate action. Many nations under extreme threat have taken matters into their own hands, investing heavily in measures to mitigate trauma resulting from climate change. Unfortunately, this is simply not a feasible solution for much of the planet without substantial help from more fortunate governments and private interests. #environment #environmentalism #ecocentric #plasticfree #nomoreplasticpollution #nomoreplastic #ocean #activism #climateaction #plasticsucks #nature #savetheearth #earth #sustainable #eco #sustainability #ecofriendly #environmentallyfriendly #news #education #greennewdeal #trump #oildrilling #offshoredrilling #arctic #climatechange

🗣 Greta Thunberg, the teen activist who delivered a powerful rebuke to world leaders at the United Nations Climate Action Summit, accusing them of turning a blind eye to global climate problems in exchange for profits and temporary economic growth. “I shouldn’t be standing here. I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean. Yet you all come to me for hope? How dare you! You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words,” the 16-year-old Swede said. Thunberg has been a powerful force in the climate change movement and became the youngest person to receive a Nobel Peace Prize for her activism. 🙌🏼✨ Repost: @huffpost . . . . #bethechange #climatechange #climateaction #nature #enviroment #globalwarming #world #instaclimatechange #change #global #savetheplanet #climatejustice #march #kids #green #zerowaste #education #girlsdogood #childrensbook #readyourworld #mustreas #paperback #worldchangers #heros

Eating locally sourced uni, a type of sushi made with sea urchins, can help save the Pacific coast ecosystem. Sea urchin assaults on giant kelp have reached epidemic proportions due to the decline of their natural predators, sea stars and otters, as a result of human activity. Coupled with habitat restoration, harvesting and eating the excess urchins could help save kelp forests on the Pacific coast from annihilation. Following her last appearance, there are so many stories online, calling Greta a fake activist; a product of her parents, told, behind the scene, how to act and what to say, instead of enjoying her childhood. 😳 But, I wonder, is Greta's story different than your children's? You take them daily to dancing, maths, or martial arts classes. You, too, teach them how to act and what to say. Are you destroying their childhood or what is the difference? 🤓 It doesn't matter. What is important is that they (Greta and her parents, if you like) woke up a dormant world, to a critical problem affecting the life on this planet. That's all it matters. 🙏 So what we focus on, and what we do from here, it's all that matters. . . . . . . . . . . #howdareyou #gretathunber #climatestrike #fridaysforfuture #schoolstrike4climate #FridayForFuture #klimatstrejk #extinctionrebellion #UniteBehindTheScience #Amnesty #loveislove #pride #climatebreakdown #climatemarch #climateactionnow #climateweek #sustainablefashion #ethicalfashion #fairtradefashion #consciousfashion #crueltyfreeliving #veganfashion #veganlifestyle #UNClimateActionSummit #climatechange #climateemergency #climatecrisis #climatechangeisreal #climateaction #climatejustice

Speaking of shifting the conversation, it’s not as hard as you might think: “Making these changes won’t mean years of being poor, cold and hungry before things get comfortable again. These scientists don’t insist we need to build off-the-grid cabins in the woods or overhaul how society provides energy, food and jobs. Instead, these scientists say that if we start right now, we stand a decent chance of transforming society without huge disruption. “Rather than talking about what we may have to give up, it’s a focus on what we’ll actually gain,” says Neil Jennings, partnership development manager at the Grantham Institute—Climate Change and the Environment at Imperial College London, in England.” It’s possible. Right now, we have the ability to do enough AND more under the right circumstances. This includes choosing responsible, passionate folks to represent you in the House of Commons. It means paying no mind to an organized effort that’s trying to cast doubt on irrefutable research. It means taking action. Read what Dr. Jennings has to say about it - #linkinbio

If you’re wondering why we keep having this conversation.... know that it’s not an accident. It’s a curated mess that has literally no regard for human life. “Over the last three decades, a series of investigative news stories as well as academic research revealed additional evidence of what Dunlap called “organized climate change denial.” In 1991, a New York Times story described how a campaign by coal-burning utility companies and coal producers aimed “to ‘reposition global warming as theory’ and not fact.” In 1998, leaked documents from the American Petroleum Institute, a trade organization for the oil and gas industry, described its plan to boost uncertainty about climate change. Those documents, now published online by the Union of Concerned Scientists, describe a global communications action plan where “victory will be achieved when … recognition of uncertainties [around climate science] becomes part of the ‘conventional wisdom.’” #LinkinBio

@diamirzaofficial #ClimateAction requires us to understand that we need to draw our awareness to our consumption patterns. I have been seeking meaning over material. When it’s a matter of doing what is fair and just by the planet, choose a narrative that celebrates the human story of fair working conditions, of craft, of heritage and textiles, dyes that is natural. That to me is sustainable fashion. This particular saree is natural indigo dyed and been woven in the villages of Bengal in India. It has also been inspired and based on the age old craft practices from the region, keeping in mind it’s identity. This saree is called ‘Juhi’ which means white jasmine flowers which grow quietly in the autumn evening in Bengal. The fashion industry is a bigger environmental polluter than the aviation industry.
