Heading back to Vancouver here, and I shall keep my posts on Québec coming in the near future.
We had an awesome time here there is no doubt. Food here is noteworthy with its succulent, powerful flavours. This place has alot of similarity with France, which was also my first impression of Québec. But after the first day of this visit, my impression changed. Not only the French here is not THE French I am used to hearing in Paris, but also the food. A much much more flavourful and heavy type of French cuisine. Who eats poutine for dessert? Who eats foie gras for dessert ? Cheese inside your steak tartare ? Bien sûr ! And basically you can put maple syrup and cheese on everything. Oh! And that peculiar menu with rabbit, deer, and highland bison (and that is the "regular" menu).
Food generally is heavy and I have to admit we are beginning to worry about our arteries lol. However, if you want to devour some Québécois awesomeness but worry about the general bistro is too heavy, I strongly recommend "le Sam bistrot" inside hôtel frontenac by fairmont. You know, that Québécois landmark you see on postcards. Not only it is by far the prettiest fairmont hotel, but food there is like a refined version of québécoise cuisine, heavy yet well balanced. Moreover their alcohol selection is divine (I came back for that cider on tap!) A must imo if you visit 💙 Eat that maple glace pork, the smoked poutine, seafood cream pot, duck confit, crème brûlées. You can always shed that extra few pounds off when you stare at that bland looking menu of your local cafeteria lol
