Today was Magic. • Whenever I speak to educators and administrators across the country, I tell a story about Mrs. Ogden (Aston) my 6th grade teacher, who took just one minute out of her day and 10% more of her heart (this was before Malcolm Gladwell) when she sat me down as a boy and said that my brain saw things differently than others, with my hearing loss, and that people were going to struggle with my different lens at times and even label me as rude, stubborn and arrogant. She concluded that with, “And promise me you will never change...” • Unbeknownst to me while I was speaking today for educators in central Utah, Mrs. Ogden was in the crowd. • To all my friends in education, social work, or any social services where sometimes you feel your work doesn’t matter, I promise you it does. • One act of kindness, (that only took one minute) can impact a life permanently for good, and you might never know. Again, I promise you, your work matters. Magical day. Too much gratitude to express for my life and career that empowers me to not only pay it forward but also return it.
