REVIEW- The Whisper Man by Alex North gets ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars from me. • This book is an excellent fall thriller. I got this book for my Aug BOTM but im happy I waited to read it while wrapping up summer. I really did love this book. The first 70 pages honestly didn’t grab me but once it picked up I didn’t want to put it down. A few times I felt I had the ending figured out but nope every time I was wrong. And that makes the best thriller to me. I love all the unexcepted twists and turns. So if your looking for a creepy on your toes thriller I recommend The Whisper Man 🤫. . Also pictured is my dog Joey. I just couldn’t resist. • #thewhisperman #alexnorth #fallthriller #thriller #botm #hellosunshinebookclub #bookstagram #bookshelf #bookclub #bookworm #books #bookshelf #bookworm #happyreading #reading #reads #dog #bichonshihtzu #puppy #dogmodel

Finished Still Lives tonight. It’s been on my bookshelves for over a year now and finally decided to read it since I wanted a creepy and crawly book. This held many creeps... an up and coming artist named Kim Lord has a new exhibition called Still Lives. In these works of art, Kim photographed herself as a woman who was famously murdered (Chandra Levy, The Black Dahlia, Nicole Simpson Brown...) and then paints the #stilllife on a canvas. The night of Lord’s reveal she goes missing and her boyfriend is on the top of the suspect list. Maggie, one of the copy editors that works at the museum dated Kim’s boyfriend who is now under suspicion. Maggie wants to get to the bottom of this because she knows deep down Greg wouldn’t hurt Kim... or would he? This novel delves into some deep and sinister tales of the life of an artist and the people that want their art. I really enjoyed the feeling of suspense as Maggie dig deeper into the world of art and what actually happened to Kim Lord. #bookreview #stilllives #mariahummel #botm #bookofthemonth #bookish #bookishlove #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagramcommunity #booklover #bookishpost #read #reading #bookworm #bibliophile #bookwormlife #alwaysreading #bookreader #readmorebooks #igreader #booknerd #readingforpleasure #readingrocks #suspense #bookpics #reecesbookclubxhellosunshine

📬Bookmail is the best mail 📚 My giveaway win from @booksbrunchesandbooze fir their October Bookclub book from BOTM. The Chestnut Man definitely looks creepy and thrilling! So excited for this. Already placed a hold at the library for the audiobook and hope to do that for the longer thriller. With the addition of The Chestnut Man, that brings my unread BOTM to 5. Hope to knocks these out before the end of the year. Synopsis The heart-pounding debut from the creator of the hit Scandinavian television show The Killing. If you find one, he’s already found you. A psychopath is terrorizing Copenhagen. His calling card is a “chestnut man”—a handmade doll made of matchsticks and two chestnuts—which he leaves at each bloody crime scene. Examining the dolls, forensics makes a shocking discovery—a fingerprint belonging to a young girl, a government minister’s daughter who had been kidnapped and murdered a year ago. A tragic coincidence—or something more twisted? To save innocent lives, a pair of detectives must put aside their differences to piece together the Chestnut Man’s gruesome clues. Happy Sock Sunday Bookish babes! Fast post tonight cause I have some unboxing to do 💃💃. 🍁 🍁Today I’m featuring my current read as well as @bookish.love.book.club BOTM. I’m glad that I’ve finally gotten this book started. It’s my first Rainbow Rowell book and I have to admit I have some seriously high hopes for this book 🤞🤞. 🍁 🍁QOTD - Name a book that was released the year you were born? A. Won’t lie, I needed to look this up. The ones that really caught my eye were The Neverending Story by Michael Ende and Tales of the Unexpected by Roald Dahl. What year was I born🤔. 🍁 🍁”You think that holding someone hard will bring them closer. You think that you can hold them so hard that you'll still feel them, embossed on you, when you pull away. Every time Eleanor pulled away from Park, she felt the gasping loss of him.” ~ Rainbow Rowell. . . #socksunday #socktember #sockseptember #septembersocks #booksandsocks #kimmerssocks #rainbowrowell #eleanorandpark #botm #currentlyreading #bookclub #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookcommunity #bookbabe #bookdragon #qotd #quoteoftheday #yalit #yalivin #booknerdigans

Wow. I did NOT intend to finish this book today. “Killers of the Flower Moon” is a great addition to any true crime collection. Grann has a great writing style so this deeply historical book doesn’t feel like you’re in a history class. It feels like we are in Oklahoma with the Osage community. He is also respectful in writing about the Native community and people, which is essential when reading a book with such violence and tragedy. Grann highlights the racial disparities between Native Americans and white people that we still see to this day. He also goes into the history that led to Native Americans’ (unfortunate) position in society today. One of my favorite quotes is “Would a jury of twelve white men ever punish another white man for killing an American Indian?” (Grann, 2017, p. 214-15). Spoiler alert, they (thankfully) do! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 • • • • • #bookstagram #book #davidgrann #bookofthemonth #botm #truecrime #readingtime 📖 #bookworm #bookaholic

My #botm bookmark couldn’t be more spot on. Took a looooong break from reading and posting this summer that wasn’t planned, but oh well🤷‍♀️ Now I’m back at it and my first finished read is Bringing Down the Duke by Evie Dunmore. This one is as everyone describes: funny, feminist, and oh so sexy. Call me cliche, but I love romances that begin with the main characters hating each other. Just makes the romance all the more exciting. No wonder I couldn’t put it down 😏😏😏/5 • #bringingdowntheduke #september #read #pickupwhereyouleftoff #bookstagram #books #bookworm #bookphotography #sexy #romance #feminist #suffragette

Happy Sunday Funday! Well, sorta. I had to work today which is not usually the case but due to photographing a golf outing on Thursday, I will be working 6 straight days prior to leaving for a 15 day road trip! Some may call me crazy, but nonetheless I perform well under pressure. With that being said, I’m not sure how much I will be reading this week with packing, working out, weigh-in, allergy shots, a friend meet-up, and a cooking night to prepare for our Memory Walk at work! This book has been on my side table collecting dust and it may have been put in the DNF pile but @allegedlymari has posted nothing but positive things about it so I am going to continue! What was one thing that made you happy today?! 📖🌹🌻 • • • • #freshflowers #sunflowers #carnations #booksandflowers #flowersandbooks #dominicana #angiecruz #bookofthemonth #botm #bookgram #bookgrammer #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #currentread #qotd #photooftheday #bookish #booksharks #booksparks #bookphotography #readersofinsta #readersofinstagram

Happy Sunday! I’m hanging out on my new chaise, thanks to my husband 😍 It’s a beautiful chair and I now finally have my very own reading nook! I’m sure I’ll be posting a picture here once I’ve completed the set-up ☺️ . I finished This Tender Land a few days ago, and it was definitely a good BOTM choice. Memorable characters, a compelling and moving story... what more could you want? My only issue was that there were numerous, numerous typos. I’m not sure if it’s this edition specifically or the book itself, but either way it was distracting and off-putting. To add to the laziness, there were a couple of inconsistencies— like, the characters are using fake names in front of outsiders, then all of a sudden they’re referring to each other with their real names, then they’re not again. And the prologue was super cheesy, so could’ve done without that. Overall, though, a great read and a nice story of America. 4⭐️

This weekend I’ve been reading my @bookofthemonth pick, Well Met, and I’m about 100 pages into it and loving it! This romance takes place at a Renaissance Festival and I’m really enjoying the setting. Very fall since this is usually something I go to around this time of year 🍂 I think the great thing about picking up a book you’re loving is that you MAKE time for it. So when I’m having a spare moment I’m not scrolling on my phone I’m picking this book back up. Anyways, that’s my Sunday reading plans as soon as I finish this paper I’m working on 🙄 Tell me what you’re reading this weekend? #bookstagram #botm #romance #romancebooks #booksofinstagram #bookstagrammer #currentlyreading

Warning—have tissues at hand for this beautifully heartbreaking story! @bookofthemonth ’s September pick If Only I Could Tell You is half mystery, half tender tale about grief and estrangement and the kind of loss that can break even the closest family apart. A must read! Imagine keeping a secret of something you saw—a secret that will have heartbreaking effects on your entire family—only to find out that what you had seen had been misconstrued all along? One morning in 1988, ten-year-old Jess sees her fifteen-year-old sister Lily coming out of their family’s spare bedroom, a seemingly benign act which, bewilderingly, sparks a rift between the two sisters for decades. Flash forward 30 years: Their mother, Audrey—who has never discovered the reasons behind the feud—is dying. Determined to reconcile her adult daughters, she’ll stop at nothing to uncover their long-held secrets. But will her time run out before she can? It’s been a while since I read a book that managed to be so honest in its navigation of loss, forgiveness, grief, and unconditional love. There are so many beautifully captured and tender moments between the characters and the ways in which the family dynamics unfold. Beckerman has a gift in making each scene, no matter how difficult the issue at hand, feel so personal and genuine. One of my favorite books of the year! Thanks to @sunshineandsimiles for this gorgeous shot!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 One night at their home in Cape Cod, Adrienne, age 14, was shaken awake by her mother, Malabar. Malabar had a secret to tell her, one that would change the path of both of their lives. On this night, Adrienne’s mother began an affair with her husband’s best friend. Malabar believes Ben is what she deserves after all she’s been through in her life. Both Malabar and Ben are still married, and Malabar depends on Adrienne as her confidante. Wanting to please her mother, Adrienne not only keeps the affair a secret from the spouses and the rest of her family, but even helps facilitate some of Malabar and Ben’s meetings. This sends an ambiguous message about relationships to the young and impressionable Adrienne, and unbeknownst to her will impact her future relationships. • • While Adrienne’s story was deeply fascinating, I struggled toward the beginning with the intimacy of her story. By the end, it was clear that the weight of keeping this secret for so many years had a long-lasting impact on Adrienne and shaped her to be the person she is, something she didn’t realize until much later in her life. I feel like I’ve known personalities like Malabar’s in my own life, as I’m sure many others have. I felt that Adrienne Brodeur articulated her thoughts and feelings extremely well and was deeply reflective about the whole situation. I really liked that about her writing because I felt it made me reflect about my own life too. • • #bookstagram #wildgame #adriennebrodeur #igreads #instabook #goodreads #bookofthemonth #botm #memoir #bookworm #bibliophile #bookrecommendations

Finished If Only I Could Tell You today and I enjoyed it. Some parts, like the final twist, were predictable but others weren’t. This also packed a lot of very heavy stuff into one book, but for me it didn’t feel like it was too full. Some characters were likable (Audrey), some weren’t (Jess), but they were all built upon things you could empathize with regardless. It took me awhile for Jess, and she was still a little too hard to get all of my empathy, but she did garner some. Beckerman was able to tell a story we all know, that only one perspective does not hold the whole picture, in an interesting, and devastating, way. Overall this was a 4/5⭐️ for me. • • I don’t usually do trigger warning because for me personally they’re spoilers, but this book was very heavy handed. So if you would like some I’ll post them in the next paragraph. If you feel like they’re spoilery skip that one and let me know if you read and liked this book! • • • • TW start here: ⬇️ Suicide, miscarriage, long term critical health/disease, euthanasia... hopefully I didn’t forget anything. If I did I apologize.

Where's the best place you've ever lived? Maybe a certain city, or with special people? I've got two answers: Chicago back in the '90s, when I lived a few blocks from Wrigley Field with The Most Fun housemates, and London now, living with my husband in our tiny (455 square foot!) house. I've been a Barbara Kingsolver fan ever since The Poisonwood Bible came out, and snapped up UNSHELTERED as soon as it was published. Not only is it a gorgeously written story so far (I'm around 50 pages in), it is one of the most beautifully produced books I've ever seen!! Swipe to drool over those end papers and fore-edge painting 💖 ❤️ 💖

One of my Book of the Month picks this month is The Chestnut Man by Søren Sveistrup! Thrillers are easily my most-read genre, and I’m looking forward to this Nordic Noir! From the synopsis: A psychopath is terrorizing Copenhagen. This book. I had to post an early review because I don’t think I’ve smiled so much reading a book in a long time! It’s a lighthearted romantic comedy set at a Renaissance Faire 💕 I usually prefer thrillers, mysteries, sci-fi, etc. but when I read the summary on BOTM’s website I thought, “Why not!” This book has been a breath of fresh air. It is so light and fun to read and it’s making me so nostalgic for the Renaissance Faires I went to in high school & college. I even went back and looked at the pictures and then got caught up in a whirlwind of nostalgia and happy memories. I’m about halfway through and I hope the magic of nostalgia and carefree fun keeps up! If so, it’ll definitely be a ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ -Tillie ☺️ • 📚 • 📚 • #botm #wellmet #5starbook #longdistancebooknerds #bookstagram #read #reading #books #reads #book #septemberreads #bookclub #booknerd #currentlyreading 📖 #reading 📖 #renaissancefestival

Just finished this book yesterday and I absolutely loved it. I thought the characters were really interesting, the historical aspects were accurate, and the setting was perfect! It did take me a few chapters to really get into it, but once I did, I was hooked. I actually went into work late on Friday so I could do more reading! . I think it is important to remember how hard women had to fight for the right to vote and to never take it for granted. This book covered that well, which is part of why I liked it so much. Of course, a pretty hot love story doesn’t hurt either! I recently restarted @bookofthemonth and I’m so glad I did! . 🐛🐛🐛🐛🐛 . 💬 do you have a favorite suffragette?

🤷🏻‍♀️Let’s talk about disappointing reads🤷🏻‍♀️ . Still Lives by Maria Hummel has been on my TBR for awhile now. The premise/blurb sounds amazing. Kim Lord, a world renowned artist, goes missing on the night of her exhibit opening & suspicion falls onto Maggie’s ex who also happens to be Lord’s current boyfriend. Maggie then takes it upon herself to find out what happened. I was expecting drama and twists and turns and what I was left with was a ton of shallow characters. I couldn’t connect with any of them so much so that I had to force myself to finish this and I almost didn’t care who the murderer was. Ultimately this book was just as shallow as the paintings Kim Lord presented. A great idea, but no thought put behind expanding upon the premise. . Alison’s rating: 🌟🌟 . QOTD: What was your last disappointing read & why (so maybe I won’t pick it up 😂)????

Severance is defined as “the action of ending a connection or relationship,” which is what the protagonist, Candace Chen continuously does throughout “Severance.” Unfortunately, some of these splits are not by choice. “Severance” was a beautiful novel that was given to me by a coworker who was unable to get into it. I, however, was quickly absorbed into the post-apocalyptic world Ling Ma creates. This was a quick read that I recommend to anyone looking for a not-as-science-fiction-y book. While many found the ending to be weak, I thought it was hopeful. “Severance” is definitely one of my new favorites. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 • • • #bookstagram #book #bookclub #bookworm #booknerd #botm #bookofthemonth
