It’s a very early bookish birthday to me! My parents came to visit and encouraged my love of books by gifting me with a Kindle! I had been reading ebooks on my iPad and phone... I can already feel a decrease in eye strain with the kindle. Anyone else use a kindle??

Don’t mind me ordering 22 copies of @scholasticbookclubs #bookofthemonth ! I am so excited to use this as a mentor text for my students. 😎 I bought little pumpkin blank books from @target .🧡🖤 The kiddos will write their own creepy vegetable stories in the blank books using the structure of Creepy Carrots. Plus, it makes a great Halloween treat. Much better than candy. 🤪 Tis the season for all things creepy, crawly, and spooky. 🍂 #halloween #iteachsecond #tpt #teachergram #teachersfollowteachers #teachersofinstagram

Reading with Bowie: If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio . Have you ever read a novel that perfectly fits your present mood? That’s how M. L. Rio’s debut novel If We Were Villains was for me. . Leaves changing, chilly castle rooms full of leather-bound books with well-tended fireplaces—check. Isolated conservatory lending an anything-goes attitude and exasperating already high competitive tensions—check. Tight-knit friend group teetering on self-destruction—check, check. . Ten years after Oliver Marks goes to jail for the murder of one of his classmates, he’s ready to tell the truth about what happened his fourth year at Dellecher Classical Conservatory, where he and his friends immersed themselves in performances of Shakespeare, bacchanal parties, and find it increasingly difficult to determine the divide between life and art. Those cast as the heroes at the beginning of the school year, soon find themselves villains, the key players, mere sidekicks; and as the balance in power shifts, their world spirals out of control leaving one dead and the rest to give the most important performance of their lives: convincing the police they’re innocent of murder. . Part Donna Tartt’s The Secret History, part Tana French’s The Likeness, and part Emily St. John Mandel’s Station Eleven, If We Were Villains reminded me of so many others I’ve loved, but with its own unique twist and beautiful prose. . What’s your favorite school-based thriller?

My September Wrap-up! I didn't realize that I read 8 books this month. "Because I love you more than my own happiness."⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Bringing Down the Duke is probably one of my favorite reads this month. The story revolves around strong female friendships, women's rights, England in 1800s, politics, scandals and much much more. I was obsessed and I can't get over with Annabelle and Sebastian. I especially love the part when they were playing around book titles and their inside jokes involving Jane Austen's books. I was pretty sad that it ended too soon. To be honest, the first 50 pages were a little slow for me. Took me a little bit to get to it but eventually I got to the point where I couldn't even put it down!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Overall, this was super fun, charming and enjoyable read. I highly recommend this for anyone that enjoys historical fiction and/or romance genre in general. I’m so happy and I already can't wait for the next book in series! 👑💕⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Rate: 4/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟⁣ ___⁣⁣ #bringingdowntheduke #bookofthemonth #goodreads #historicalromance #bookreview #bookworm #booklove #SoCalbooksta #eviedunmore 📚

September Wrap Up!! . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Before She Knew Him Third Party The Chestnut Man I really enjoyed each of these thrillers! I had picked up Before She Knew Him in July and read some and then put it on hold and I’m not entirely sure why because I actually really enjoyed it! I feel like each of these books had an ending that I wasn’t expecting or something I wasn’t expecting to happen which isn’t usual. I would definitely recommend any of the three! . . I have been having a rough time lately! I keep getting into a slump and I haven’t been reading too much but I did manage to finish three books this month! I also attempted a few others but have left them sitting on the shelf unfinished 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I read half of House of Salt and Sorrows. I’m just bored with it! I’ve heard awesome things but it’s just meh to me... does it pick up?? Ugh. I also started Stolen Things but it was triggering and I had to put it down. Perhaps when I’m in a better head space, I’ll pick it back up. 🤷🏻‍♀️ hopefully October proves to be a better reading month for me!! Did you read any of these? What did you think? . . . . #thrillers #botm #botmchallenge #buddyread #thirdparty #thechestnutman #beforesheknewhim #bookofthemonth #netgalley #readathon #septemberwrapup #books #bookclub #bookstagram #blogger #bookblog #review #rating #follow #bookwhore

Review: Well Met By @jendelucawrites . I really wanted to love this book - I feel like about half way through I just lost enthusiasm. I love the concept in regards to the renaissance festivals - we have a huge one about 35 mins from my house and it’s amazing! They have the bar, jousting, plays, jesters, great little shops, amazing food and more. It always amazes me that we are literally parking in a field in the middle of nowhere and you walk through the trees and BAM you are in a whole new world. That being said - I liked the vibes regarding the festival but I feel like I needed more. More details, more excitement, more craziness. The relationship between Emily and Simon was a very slow build and that was ok but then it went from 0 to 60 with no warning and I felt that was a bit jumpy for me. All in all, it was a fun read and a good BOTM choice. Book of the month!! I’m definitely not going to let the month pass without posting a book of September, which is a novel by Mira T. Lee. It tells the stories of sisters and how one of them suffers heart wrenching mental illness, which of course takes a toll on both of them. It’s a beautiful love story in that sense, but it is also somewhat difficult. I wrote more about it on the blog so please check it out and if you’ve read it, definitely let me know what you think. #themoderncedar #bookofthemonth #bookofseptember #miratlee #everythinghereisbeautiful #novels #bookstagram #booksofinsta #booksof2019 #bookoftheweek #bookofthemonthclub #mentalhealthawareness

What can I say about this book besides “Wow.” Saeed Jones writes a memoir that is unparalleled. It’s rich, fierce, brutal, honest, poetic, queer, black, and just wow. The book reads almost like a novel to me rather than what I’m used to in memoirs. His life plays out like a story. Saeed writes about the beauty of life but also shines a light on the brutality that life attacks you with. He writes on coming of age and self-discovery in a way that evokes the painful truth of how we hide who we truly are from the world but really how we hide the truth of who we really are from ourselves. And how coming to terms with that is the real battle. But then this memoir is also a love letter to his mother. The stories of her love and sacrifice for him are moving, but his love for her just smacks you in the face. It brought me to tears. Literally I read the last ¼ of this book on an airplane and fucking ugly cried sandwiched in between two strangers. The sounds of the turbulent sway of the plane underscored my sobs as I lost the battle trying to fight back the tears bursting from my eyes. When it was all done, after I turned that final page, my only thought was “Wow.” Feeling embarrassed and exposed I stealthy wiped away the physical manifestation my emotions, and just sat there in awe as the stale air dried away the tears leftover on my face. HOW WE FIGHT FOR OUR LIVES comes out October 8. Read this book!! ⁣ #bookstagram #bookstoread #unitedbookstagram #newbookstagram #readstagram #igbooks #blackauthors #bookofthemonth #lgbtreads #downtownatlanta #saeedjones #howwefightforourlives #advancedreaderscopy #goodreads

👯‍♀️SEPTEMBER BUDDY READ👯‍♀️ . “We repeat what we don’t repair.” . . This month the NYC Book Friends (aka us) picked Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane to read as our buddy read. Yet again, we selected the same rating for similar reasons (this is rare, my friends). BUT we both really enjoyed it and it was so helpful to discuss it; therefore making it a perfect book club read. . . Synopsis: The story of two star crossed families that just can’t seem to separate, no matter how much damage has been done. It all begins when Brian Stanhope and Francis Gleeson become rookie partners for the NYPD and then neighbors in a small town outside of the city. . . Jamie’s rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 I was SUPER pumped to read this book as it is SO FAR up my alley but in the end I didn’t find myself connecting to any of the characters. This may potentially be because of the way the POVs were so interwoven. However, the story was beautiful and one that is of great importance. . Alison’s rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 I really enjoyed this book and felt that it was well written and entertaining. However something was missing and I’m not sure what but it made the difference between me liking and loving this book. . . Did you read this? What did you think? What should we read next month? We’re thinking THRILLER!

September wrap up 📚 ⁣ ⁣ Where did this month go?!? 😱 September was a great reading month. I read so many good books! 7 books in total. I’m a slow reader so this is a great month for me. This month I also completed my reading goal for the year of 50 books. Who am I?!? I read 15 books last year so this was a big accomplishment 🥳 ⁣ ⁣ I’m featuring Dante in this pic because I missed him so much while I was out of town this weekend. I may have him in all my pics cause I can’t resist all this cuteness 😆 ⁣ ⁣ Here is what I read this month:⁣ ⁣ 5 ⭐️ ⁣ 📖 Dominicana⁣ 📖 Cilka’s journey⁣ ⁣ 4 ⭐️ ⁣ 📖 Recursion⁣ 📖 The wedding date ⁣ 🎧 Frankly in Love⁣ 📖 Charlotte Walsh likes to win⁣ ⁣ 3 ⭐️ ⁣ 📖/🎧 Three Women⁣ ⁣ I think my favorite was Dominicana (as you know I’m obsessed with it) Which was your favorite book you read this month?

⭐️BOOK REVIEW⭐️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 😐😯😳-average joe ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To the outside eye, Allison lives the ideal life- a perfect husband, young daughter, and a career on the rise with the chance to officially defend her first murder case. But, nothing is always as good as it seems. Allison is negligent to her family, while drinking herself into oblivion and simultaneously having an affair with her boss. When Allison starts getting threatening texts about her defense for the murder case, she decides to take a step back and attempt to get her life in order. Something about this case seems a little odd, and she must get down to the bottom of it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I liked this book because of the storyline. It was not your typical “who did it” suspense novel, which hooked me from the beginning. While I feel that a lot of parts dragged on and the protagonist was not likeable, not even Nancy Drew could’ve seen the ending coming. Definitely not one of my favorites, but an easy page turner... I mean, come on, who isn’t curious about why a psychological thriller is titled Blood Orange? . . #bookstagram #bookclub #igreads #plottwist #thriller #psychologicalthriller #suspensethriller #suspense #bookofthemonth #reading #read #bookrecommendation #currentlyreading #bookworm #bookreview #bloodorange #bloodorangebook #harriettyce

Book Review!! 🌈 The Love that Split the World by Emily Henry Emily Henry has quickly become one of my favorite authors! I was originally introduced to her works through Book of the Month. Henry fills her pages with imagination and whimsical story telling 💙 The Love that Split the World is about Natalie Cleary, a girl who just graduated high school in a small town. Since Natalie was little she has been plagued by nightmares and visits from a kind apparition that she calls Grandmother. Now Grandmother appears in her room right before summer starts with a warning... you have three months to save him I felt very connected to Natalie more than any other of Henry's main characters. Natalie comes from a native american tribe and the weaving of the tribes lore really spoke to me!! This read is perfect if your looking for some magic, a unique story, and love that changes the world💕

“When you feel homesick,” he said, “just look up. Because the moon is the same wherever you go.” • I finished The Goldfinch last night and I’ve written this review a million times but still can’t find the right words. I feel like I didn’t want the story to end. I didn’t want to finish reading the book but at the same time I was happy when I did finish because the ending felt complete and whole. There are really no words to describe how much I loved this book (which is ironic since this is a review). Donna Tartt’s writing really makes you fall in love with her characters and the setting and drops you dead right in the middle of their world. I love Theo. I love how pretentious he is at times but doesn’t know it. I love Boris and his laissez-faire demeanor. What I especially loved about this novel is how Tartt created an entire Dickensian story centered around a single painting. A painting that isn’t incredibly well known compared to others but still has so much to it rather than simply being a small forgotten about painting. This is honestly competing with The Great Gatsby in the running for my favorite book of all time.

Sick day in bed catching up on my @bookofthemonth reading in my @lakepajamas. I’m behind on everything and kind of resentful (not a productive emotion!) about being sick AGAIN. I am hopeful that October will be better.💗

What do you do with your books after you’ve read them? 📚We came across this super cute VW van *painted in my favorite color* that was giving free books out this weekend. It was a husband and wife and their daughter, they take book donations and then drive / park around #Boise and give the books away! We get to meet some of the coolest people on our weekend adventures around this city and I’m totally left feeling inspired and reminded that humans are just good. I snagged a new novel and can’t wait to dive in, read it and then give it back to the free books van when I’m done for someone else to enjoy 💕 #takeabookgiveabook #boisemom #keepitlocal #BoiseisTheBest

Frankly in Love by David Yoon 😍😍😍 . Frankly (pun intended), I relate. We just want to be free of our parents expectations and limitations, especially when I comes to those we love. I love it! . My favorite quote: “What does the nut say to another nut it’s chasing?” . READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT! 😂😂😂 . . . #franklyinlove #davidyoon #booklyapp #yabookofthemonth #yabooks #yabookstagram #bookofthemonth #bookrecommendations #booknerd #booklove #bibliophile #bookgeek #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #bookporn #bookaholic #bookstoread #bookworm #bookcommunity #books #bookobsessed #bookshelf #booklovers #bookaddict #currentlyreading #reading #read #readingtime #barnesandnoble
