Long post alert! No seriously...this is going to be a long post but it's worth a read. On Saturday I competed in my 1st body building competition in 3 years. Sadly, I didn't place which was disappointing because I've NEVER not placed. (Thank you Lord for humbling me.) After some reflection, I was reminded of how far I've come physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Nobody warns you about the ugly side of body building. The drug pushing and coaches who neglect their clients and push them to breaking point, the unhealthy methods of getting your body to peak and the extreme dieting and excessive amounts of cardio. The emotional damage to your mind and body is indescribeable. I returned to the stage to bring honour to this vessel that is my body. To honour God because my body is a temple. The last 3 years I've spent undoing metabolic damage to my body and learning to love my body at all stages. Whether I'm in shape or out of shape. Competition ready or couch potato ready. As long as it's healthy and strong and the same awesome individual lives in it that means I'm perfect just the way I am. Thank you @augustineashely my Love for your support and always reminding me of WHY. Your prayers have strengthened me more than you know. Thank you to my @curvesnorthcliff family for your love and support. (FYI I did all my cardio there) @the_empire_sa You are a gem and God send. Thank you for journeying with me for the last year. ::Calling anyone that’s ever held back expression of any emotion:: Did you know that when you don’t fully feel and release an emotion, it can get trapped in the area of the body that wanted to express it?! Why is this important? Because when we don’t feel an emotion (anger, guilt, frustration, grieving, sadness) because we are afraid of either 1. How we will be perceive by society/friends/family 2. We aren’t sure of a healthy way to express it 3. We are scared we will get stuck in it That E-MOTION, energy in motion, becomes not in motion and that energy because stagnant in the energy field. Inside the body this looks like: Something happens, Emotion is stirred up in the body, Emotion isn’t felt fully creating stress in the body, Feelings of stress are sent from the heart (the feeling center) to the brain and send signal to go into fight or flight, Cascade of chemical reactions take place in body, If this happens over and over again the body then becomes addicted to this stress response and craves it So you: Get pissed in morning traffic Think your boss hates you and feel threatened all day Snap at your loved ones Read the news or watch TV to feel the adrenaline rush And pretty soon, the original emotion that wanted to be felt (anger or sadness etc) gets shuffled behind the stress and your body starts to think “holy shit they need to express this, how can we show them that something is up?” INSERT DISEASE, ILLNESS, TIGHT MUSCLES, etc. Energy that is not expressed (emotions are energy) become stored in the body and expressed physically as either of the above, plus other physical ailments. The physical body is still energetic, only vibrating at a slower rate. So whatever is affecting you on one level IS AFFECTING you on all levels. Make sense? TAKE HOME MESSAGE: Feel your feelings FULLY! Release and process them and feel grateful for how awesome your body is that it wants to show you something is up. Diet confusion? We've all seen and heard an overwhelming amount of terms in relation to diet and what's best- no carb, all fat, zero sugar etc. The diet that's best for you is the one you can stick to! Once you have determined your rda of calories, you then break that down into the types of food to eat to suit your overall goal- weightloss, weight gain, maintenance, body composition/adding muscle "toning". Now whilst I don't see counting calories as a long term thing and can see how it could culminate into something negative, in that you could become obsessed with it and too strict, initially I do feel its needed to make you aware of what you're putting into your body and how you can adjust that to suit your goals. So what kind of foods do you need to eat? There are two main groups of nutrients needed by our bodies to function and help with growth/repair. These are Macro and Micro nutrients. Macros are needed in large amounts by the body in the form of Protein, Carbohydrates and Fats and Micros are needed in smaller amounts but equally as important in the form of vitamins and minerals. Your specific goals and energy expenditure will determine what amounts of each you need. A nutritionist would be your best bet to calculate. Now, "flexible" dieting. Some people feel that if you eat junk but still stick to your rda of calories that you'll lose weight. Technically they're not wrong. BUT, your body needs these nutrients it gets from whole foods to function. Realistically if you only eat crisps/chocolate or empty calories as I like to call them, chances are you a) won't feel full b) will eat more resulting in a calorie surplus= gain weight. Also you will feel and look like shit, you will be lathargic, dehydrated, spotty, irritable to name a few. So my general guide is 3-4 nourishing meals with a good source of protein (meat/fish/tofu), carbs (rice,potato), good fats (oil,nuts) and micros (fruit/veg). Up 3 pounds since Friday 😬 Usually this would be enough to ruin my entire day, but not today! While I’m not on any sort of major #WeightlossJourney at the moment, I am definitely trying to be more conscientious about the amount of calories I have been consuming. This weekend, however, I consumed way more than I should, but I have no regrets! I had such a great time with my parents and enjoying good food with great company was completely worth it! Ich glaube es ist wahrscheinlicher wahrhaftig glücklich zu werden wenn man mal wirklich unglücklich war und viel einstecken musste was das leben ausgeteilt hat. Ich denke es gibt verschiedene Möglichkeiten darauf zu reagieren und damit umzugehen. Aber wenn man wirklich leid erfahren hat, und am eigenen Leib gespürt hat wieviele Dinge nicht selbstverständlich sind und gefühlt hat wie es ist eingeschränkt zu sein, kann man sich mehr über 'die kleinen Dinge' im Leben freuen. Man erwartet weniger. In der Natur des Menschen liegt es immer mehr zu wollen. Aber wenn man etwas mal gar nicht hatte ist man für die pure Möglichkeit etwas zu können oder zu haben schon dankbar. Wenn man von ganz unten kommt ist alles ein Aufstieg. Man lernt alles was andere Menschen für selbstverständlich halten ganz anders schätzen als sie es je könnten. Man muss sich das nur bewahren.
