I used to believe there was no greater failure than living a life that didn’t go as planned.
My nightmare looked like a crystal ball filled with everything my life
was still missing.
Two hands holding a future
trapped in glass.
And as my forgotten hopes and dreams danced like silhouettes in the shadows on the walls around me,
I knew that this must be where it all finally ends.
But the world keeps spinning,
no matter where our gaze is set.
The world keeps spinning,
no matter what our hands choose to hold.
We are surrounded by people with outstretched arms, hoping that someone will pass by and give them the answer,
with eyes too busy swiping and scrolling
to discover the map
that is written on their palms.
The map that teaches us that
we’ve held the answer all along.
The crystal ball loses its walls
when we stand up and dance.
So we stop hoping and we start living. We stop waiting and we start doing.
Crawling will always cover more miles than standing still
And as I start to make my way down this new road,
with passing cars I’ve never seen before,
I do not get caught up in the speed in which they travel.
We never know how many roads those legs, those cars,
have traveled before.
I do not question the direction in which I am moving,
I know for certain that the roads and rivers and relationships behind me
were never meant to be traveled more than once.
But thank the earth I traveled them.
My shoes would still give me blisters if I hadn’t been given the chance to break them in.
Thank the heavens those paths failed me.
My heart would be so much smaller if I hadn’t been given the chance to let it break open.
Thank hope for finding me,
so I may forgive him
We can’t move forward if there’s a rear view mirror taped to our windshield.
And thank grace,
thank that sweet, humbled grace,
for allowing me
To finally forgive
When I stopped holding myself
in the depths of my failures,
my empty hands revealed
a map of their very own.
And as my future hopes and dreams
dance like silhouettes in the shadows on the road before me,
I know that this must be
where it all
