Here’s a Story:
June 2018 // A week after I converted @WaipaheCo from a blog to an online shop, I attended my first @sdbusinessbabes event under the leadership of the powerhouse duo @_devinjones & @kileyshaiphotography.
I am naturally a really shy person, yet I knew I needed to put myself out there as a business owner. At this point in my life, the only social life I had was talking to my one-year-old son, Mav, especially since @joji_val was often away for work. So I went— annnnnnd completely froze. I headed straight to the food and tried to nibble away at my nerves. Since I was 5-months pregnant at the time with Keoni, I couldn’t drink myself social either🍹.
Well, let me tell you that I was the first to find my chair, learned some amazing things from the speakers that day, and kept to myself THE ENTIRE TIME. At the end, I told myself, “I need to go home Mav is probably wondering where I am” and headed straight to the elevators. Just my luck the doors closed which gave my brain that split second to tell me “Rachel, you didn’t pay to go to a networking event and not network. Also, shut your excuses cause Mav’s probably already sleeping.”
Deep breath of courage and I went back in, scanned the room until I saw a face I recognized— Devin (cause she was the moderator that day). I decided it best to hover around her until she was free and introduced myself:
“Hi. I’m Rachel. I just launched a tropical- and coastal-inspired online vintage shop...”.
One thing led to another and I ended up sponsoring their luau-themed July event.
Fast forward to March 2019, the opportunity for a new chapter leader arose and Devin connected me with @danilivinglife , the Business Babes Collective founder. And now, here we are💫. Hope to catch you all at our Summer Launch Party on June 27th💕. Our topic is “Collaboration over Competition” and I truly believe you’ll find so many opportunities waiting for you within our community.
