I’ve been exploring some text art. Much of it can be seen in a few ways. “Do you hear you?” Originally came to me after hearing someone saying some fu[ked thing. I was taken aback. Clearly the country/world is divided on many topics. No magical being is coming to put things right, so we have to each try a little bit harder. It seems that not everyone has a moral compass. I feel like I’m living in the twilight zone sometimes, for real. I was looking at the painting again today & was reflecting on myself. Do I hear me when I talk to my kids? In my art? Am I sending the right messages? Am I being genuine? Kind? My best self? Ultimately anyone reading this painting would take a moment to consider their conscience. Do you hear you in your every decision? Are you following the right path? Ethically? Are you satisfied with your career? Are you holding onto toxic relationships? What is holding you back from being your best, true self? For me, I feel as though I’ve gotten a bit complacent. I do a lot of the same things. I have all of these grand goals, but am dealing with a lot of overwhelm. I want to take life on more purposefully. I want to model more kindness to my children & to be more physically active. I want to be more political with my art, to share my passions. I’ve been too safe in a lot of ways. I’d like to step up out of my comfort zone & be more bold as my paintings can be, to ROAR! Feel free to hold me accountable, repeat it back at me “Do you hear you?”

Anyone else feel like a hot mess the first week you are trying a new routine? . I know I do!! . With classes starting, moving, only being back home a week, helping parents with tasks at their place, changing my meal prep, leadership transitioning, job applications, waiting to hear back from interviews, a new workout plan, race training, AND developing a new and improved accountability program for #InspiredFitness ... it’s needless to say I’m a bit exhausted . We all love to listen to music and depending on the melody, rhythm, and tempo, music can have a strong impact on us. Fast music can actually increase your heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure and so improve our performance, while slower music tends to have a relaxing and soothing effect. But there are also many more health benefits. Music can reduce stress and anxiety. Repetitive elements of rhythm and melody help our brains form patterns that enhance memory. Strange things happened to me when I was going through burnout. ‍ There were the symptoms of the actual burnout; exhaustion, brain fog, apathy, confusion, overwhelm and physical pain. ‍ The unhelpful thoughts that accompanied the symptoms; what’s wrong with me, I’m a failure, I’m so unhappy, I’m not good enough. ‍ Then there were the secret burnout behaviours to cope with the unhelpful thoughts. These are the things that make me want to hide behind a cushion when I think about them. ‍ The first was drinking to excess. I have a degree in nutrition, I know just how toxic drinking is for your physical and mental health. Yet I couldn’t stop reaching for the bottle every night after work to numb the thoughts & feelings. ‍ Along with the drinking went overeating on junk food. I knew I was destroying my health, but I just seemed powerless to stop it. It was like there was another voice in my head telling me to reach for the crisps, chocolate and takeaways to comfort me. ‍ I was making bad relationship choices. I was looking for external validation and someone else to love me when I couldn’t. I felt powerless to stop punishing myself. ‍ These are just a few of my secret behaviours, but you get the idea, it was a miserable time. This is scary! A few things have happened in the past 48 hours. Firstly, I resurrected a project that I had neglected for a few years called The Rejection Advantage. You can find me on instagram posting challenges, and inviting people to share ‘wins, cheers, and support’. Essentially, the rejection advantage is all about confronting our fear of rejection and growing our confidence by taking bold action rather than reject ourselves and opportunities. The rejection advantage knows that the more we pursue what we care about without letting fear of rejection stop us from even trying, the more opportunities, the more ‘yes’s’, the more LIFE we can experience. Which leads me to why I’m scared. I’ve been wanting to create a podcast for well over a year. I have kept finding excuses rather than solutions to making it happen. Seriously, I let myself procrastinate because I didn’t know what to call it! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Anyway, with a re-commitment to pursuing what I care about, I am announcing that my new podcast ‘Best You’ is coming together...soon. I have to focus on staying in my lane. I’m not trying to be better than anyone other than the person that I was yesterday. The best of me today was 4 miles at a 13 minute pace. Not breaking records with that time but I’m proud of the progress. 4 miles is 4 miles. . All I wanted to do 3 weeks ago was veg out, watch tv and eat everything in site! It’s amazing what can happen when you set a goal and you have a clear vision of what you want. . My daughters saw me run and finish today which means everything to me!!
