Truth bomb or nonsense❓
💣 / 🤡
I feel like a lot of people confuse “not being a watered down version of yourself” with “everyone should let me act however I want regardless of how it affects others.” That’s not being yourself; that’s being a dick. You can fully be yourself without impacting others negatively. I’ve known plenty of blunt people who manage not to be abrasive and off-putting.
It’s like that movie, “The Invention of Lying,” I think it’s called. A lot of the “truth” in that movie wasn’t realistically “telling the truth”; characters were just oversharing information that they didn’t have to and when it didn’t make sense to. Just because you are a certain way or believe a certain thing doesn’t mean you need to throw it in everybody’s faces. That shit doesn’t have to rear its head in every human interaction you have. Show some decorum.
I believe this is especially important for us to keep in mind if we’re trying to build something and do good business - if relationships are the key (which I really believe they are), then we need to actively work on interacting with other people, and doing that well. If “not being a watered down version” of yourself means doing whatever you want in spite of how others feel about it, maybe building your career on relationships isn’t for you.
Sure people are sensitive and sure people get offended at nonsense...so what⁉️ Just don’t let that come into your interactions with them. I promise it’s not that hard. Being considerate of who’s in your company and conducting yourself accordingly doesn’t mean you’re watering yourself down; it means you’re being a decent person. Be unapologetically you, but at the appropriate time, at the appropriate place, with the appropriate people. Even metal bands write ballads 🎶 #rantover
