I was invited by @metrolosangeles to do an art competition for the "Through the Eyes of Artists" series. This series highlights different communities within LA County and for this phase I was asked to do a rendition of Wilmington🌷 and well,.. I WON! 😭 My art work will appear on 2,500 Metro Buses and Trains throughout all of LA County 🙏🙏🙏 Wilmington is like a 2nd home to me, and I am so deeply honored to have been chosen to do this. My roots in this city go back to when I was a newborn baby, and I really hope I have made all my Wilmas comrades proud with my rendition of this city that really is like non other. Towards the end of the year, posters of this piece will begin popping up throughout metro buses and trains so stay tuned!!!!
I wanted to highlight the essence and soul of Wilmas, and the community, art, music and culture of it. From classic cars, to trains to an ode to all my punk babes who are now the leaders, teachers, and mothers of this city. I wanted to highlight the memories, the diy culture, the solidarity that is felt in this community. I used @missnesa_310 & @_panduhh_ as inspirations for the punk girl in the middle. I love these girls and the memories and all the shows we went to are so dear to my heart. 💞 I added Bougainvillea flowers because they remind me of home (and are all over Wilmas and the South Bay). The 2 different spray cans are odes to the graffiti and art cultures of Wilmas. Rustos & Montanas Forever 💛💛💛 I also added a 663 on the train as an ode to the big homie #Batle #663Lives 🙏✨ A million thanks to @bloodrust88 for keeping me focused, I love you 💛💛💛 #MsYellow #Metro #GoMetro #ThroughtheEyesOfArtists #LALife #Wilmington #SouthBay
