🇧🇧Barbados ➡️➡️➡️Iowa🌽, USA🇺🇸 Welcome home, Fig!
We met this little gal in Barbados at the Animal Ark Sanctuary where we spent a day on our vacation 6 weeks ago. I spent a lot of time preparing myself for the visit to the shelter, telling myself not to fall for any pups. Named Blondie for her adorable color, we got to walk her and her pup, Rocco, in the first part of our day. They were found as strays on the island, and brought to shelter and safety (and a lot of love 💖) at the Ark. •••••••••••••••••••••••••
Fast forward to the afternoon when we got back to our room at the resort after being at the Ark. Brad lets out a big sigh and says, “Blondie was so cute... we should just get her.” And well, you know me - the rest is history. We reached out to the folks at the Ark, and they went above and beyond to get this girl to Iowa. They coordinated all of her vet appointments and travel preparation, and devoted so much time and effort to getting this little girl sent to us. Many, many volunteers who we will never be able to thank enough made this possible, and we couldn’t be any happier! On Friday, we drove to O’Hare to pick her up. It was a longer experience than we could have ever expected, but we made it home and she fits in perfect with our pack - and she is in her forever home! ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
She is a small, about 15lbs. little dog, somewhere between 2-3 years old. She is docile and observant, yet spunky - especially when she gets to go outside. Loves naps on the couch. 🐾🖤🐶
We decided to name her “Fig” to keep her name significant of the amazing island of Barbados. The island was named for its bearded fig trees, and Barbados or Los Barbados is “the bearded ones.” We hope we can get back there some day, but in the off chance we don’t, we have a little piece of Barbados here at home with us.
