Now this is some big chard! If building compost and growing gardens don't work out for me, maybe I can earn a living wage by being a plant model. #chard #backyardgarden #plantmodel

Borage flowers are beautiful and are edible. Also they have a great medicinal use. A tea from leaves and flowers promotes lactation, relieve fever and is great as an adrenal tonic. It's also is beneficial for dry cough, throat irritation, chest colds and bronchitis. You can save the flowers and leaves by drying them and using them through the winter.

Life update! We are babysitting this lil pupper named angel for a month 😍 She is the cutest tiny thing, pitty and rottweiler mix. Charlie is so freaking happy to have a puppy, he is the best foster dad. My heart is so full 💜

The smaller tomatoes are the blessed & almighty Sungold cherry tomatoes. The big yellow ones are actually a variety of white tomatoes called Tomesol. As you can see, they didn't turn out white and they are rather small. The good news was that my Tomesol plants were pretty prolific. The bad news is that the taste is so-so. Mine were a little more acidic than sweet. . . . #cherrytomatoes #sungoldtomatoes #tomato #tomatoes   #tomatoseason   #heirloomtomatoes #victorygarden   #growyourownfood   #growwhatyoueat #growsomething   #growfoodnotlawns #vegetablegarden #organicgardening   #organicgarden #urbangarden   #urbangardening   #homegrownveggies #greenthumb   #backyardgarden #backyardgardening   #gardener   #gardening #gardenfresh #tomatogrowers #tomatolover #urbangardenersrepublic #thehappygardeninglife   #epicgardening #urbanorganicgardener   #seedsnow

The Amaranth is starting the put off it’s heads. This plant grew great all summer and took direct sun and heat without a problem. I used the leaves all summer in smoothies and will harvest the seeds too! This is definitely a worthwhile summer crop. Baby cakes hybrid small tomatoes have performed well in my garden by providing many full flavor fruits and viral resistance. I start them from seed in April indoors and then plant outside in early June, after danger of freezes and cold weather. . I grow cherry tomatoes with the intention of dehydrating them and extending summer flavors into the winter months. I use a food dehydrator, cut the tomatoes in half, skin side down, and dry for about 24 hours or until dry. They are delicious chewy, but that chewy moistness limits shelf life, so I dry completely. When ready to use in salads, garnishes, and sauces, just rehydrate a handful in boiled hot water for about 20 minutes. . It’s seed collecting season, and I am going to try harder to get some seeds dried and stored for next spring. I’ve never been great at staying on task with seed saving, as there is so much work to do to change the garden from summer to fall growing, but this year it’s happening! Anyone know what these amazing little seeds are? #seedsaving #fullcirclegardening #sustainabilitymatters #vegetablegarden #veggiegarden #organicgardening #growyourownfood #greenthumb #gardener #backyardgarden #raisedbeds #homegarden #teachinggarden #flowers #newbrunswick #axilgardens #homegrown #gardentotable #homestead #ediblegarden

Ok. I’ve been slacking on my exercises. Mostly because I would rather not be sitting in my gym or any gym for that matter. But,,,,,,, I need to step up my #recovery game. So I’m putting a proper workout plan into motion. Now let’s see how sore I am tomorrow. 🤣😜😂 #ecomama #ecomamawellness #holisticnutrition #holisticnutritionist #hamont #organic #aclrecontruction #backyardgarden #backyardfarm #backyardfarming #urbanfarm #urbanfarming #reiki #reikimaster #reikimasterteacher #reikiteacher #reikitraining

Sooooo this happened. I've become obsessed with fig trees. I recently bought some tissue cultures online. Although tissue cultures are less desirable than hardwood cuttings, they are an inexpensive way to start a fig orchard. I purchased a Violette De Bordeaux, Chicago Hardy, Desert King and Yellow Long Neck. I am also interested in a Black Madeira, Strawberry Verte, Smith, and Italian 258 but those will be down the line. I plan to keep these plants indoors under the lights to prevent them from going dormant and protect them from extreme cold during the Winter since they are such young plants. Hopefully they will put on a good amount of growth over the Winter and they will have a jump start in the Spring. I'm excited! 🌱 🌱 🌱 #garden #nature #seeds #grow #plants #spring   #summer #fall #sun #water #earth #love dirt #vegetables #fruit #love #life #nutrition #organic #photooftheday #growyourown #food #instagood #arkansas #containergarden #homegrown #backyardgarden #zone7b #figs #figtree

This is the spider web (large enough to catch a human, imho) that is stretching across my patio. Feeling lucky that I saw it before walking through it. And now I’m getting itchy just thinking about it! Nice handiwork and all, but could you have picked a better spot?! 😂🕷 🕸 #backyardgarden #nature #spiders

I never have been able to successfully grow zucchini. Every year some animal gets to them before I do. I gave up the past couple years but this year my grandpa gave me some extra plants he grew so I was determined to make it work. I knew he would be asking "so how's the zucchini doing? Send me a picture of your harvest" Failure just wasn't an option! I put some netting around the edges of my raised beds to keep the animals out, and now I FINALLY have zucchini!!! 😍😍😍

I've never been a writer. In fact, I hate writing. All of it from letters to articles to punctuation. I am a math and science girl which explains my love of gardening and taking things apart (not that they always go back together in the same order). So I'm taking that bull by the horns and starting a blog. My passion in life right now and has been for many years, is homesteading, with a little fitness thrown in there. And after months of toying with a blog name and pondering it finally came to me....it started with a seed. That seed could be a thought, memory, or actual seed that grows into a majestic plant, business or idea. Everything starts as a seed....even you. I will be taking some time to develop and write (yikes) some content and my goal is to be live by halloween!? No that's not a typo (!?) Its a scheduling and creative thing I need to overcome not to mention where to squeeze this in my day. So keep an eye out for the new venture. #blog #blogging #homesteading #homemade #nature #gardenlife #garden #freshpicked #backyardchicken #backyardgarden

The cherry tomatoes were very productive this year. They are still hanging in there despite several inches of rain over the past week. In all there are 11 varieties growing in the garden this year, one of which was a volunteer. There were actually two volunteer cherry tomato plants but they both appear to be the napa rose I grew last year. Only two others (sun gold and indigo cherry drop) were varieties I've grown before. The rest were varieties I hadn't grown before. As mentioned a few times already, Barry's crazy cherry was the favorite this year and it will have a space in the garden for many years to come. . . #tomatotuesday #cherrytomatoes #urbanorganicgardener #tomatoes #tomatoharvest #backyardgarden #harvestbasket #pnwgardening

These runner beans are starting to slow down and the freezer is getting full. I’ve loved the beauty and taste of this plant, they definitely won me over. I’m thinking of leaving the last few to dry out on the vine or pull the plant to dry in the garage, what should I know if I go this route? #playingwithmud 🌱 🌱 🌱 🌱 #runnerbeans #beans #harvest #gardenharvest #growyourown #organic #veggies #growyourownfood #homegrown #organicgarden #organicgardening #backyardgarden #backyardgardening #vegetablegarden #kitchengarden #ediblegarden #gardentotable #urbangarden #urbangardening #instagarden #gardening #gardenlove #gardenlife #growfoodnotlawns #sustainableliving #sustainablesprout #thehappygardeninglife
