Behind these smiling faces is a whole team of people who made this incredible trip possible. First, of course, is this handsome guy on my right. He worked his butt off all year to earn us this trip—by working with clients who are a joy and others who test our hard-won boundaries, by taking necessary weekend appointments when he’d rather be eating pancakes with me and Selah. And as Dan’s CEO always reminds us, I, Dan’s partner, also earned this trip by enduring seemingly endless bouts of solo parenting and bedtimes and by maintaining my patience (most of the time) his cell phone rings at an inopportune times. This trip was also possible because we have that proverbial and, it seems, increasingly rare village. We are lucky enough to have family members who live nearby and who joyfully interrupted their normal schedules to take care of Selah and Riley. Between my mom, Dan’s mom, my siblings, and Selah’s amazing daycare providers, every moment of Selah’s days were not just covered, but she was snuggled and loved and had extra doses of fun because they all knew she’d be missing us. It was possible because of our incredible coworkers who graciously covered our projects and allowed us to be fully disconnected. We are both so, so grateful for this time away together to get tons of sleep, eat amazing food, read for hours on end without interruption, to adventure together on snorkeling and sailing trips, and to remember what it was like to be married before we had kids (especially as we look to the near future of adjusting to life with another one). What a week.
