#SaintLucia is a sovereign island country in the eastern #CaribbeanSea on the boundary with the #AtlanticOcean. St Lucia with its over 82.5% people of African descent is part of the #LesserAntilles and it is located north/northeast of the island of #SaintVincent , northwest of #Barbados and south of #Martinique. It covers a land area of 617 km2 (238.23 sq mi) and has a population of 174,000 (2010). Its capital is #Castries.
The majority of St Lucia population are blacks from Africa, particularly West Africa. "As of 2013, people of African descent are the majority ethnic group in Saint Lucia, accounting for 82.5% of the country's population. An additional 11.9% of the country is multiracial, predominantly of mixed black African and white European descent or East Indian descent."
The blacks came to the St Lucia as slaves during the Trans Atlantic Slave trade. Most of the slaves imported to Saint Lucia were from the Bight of Biafra (it was here that Europeans imported more of 3,000 slaves to archipelago, the 53% of the slaves.
Even though Saint Lucia was ranked number one in the Caribbean for cannabis use, it is still illegal under their law. If caught with Cannabis in any shape or form you can be arrested and given mild or harsh penalties. As legalization picks up in the Caribbean picks up St. Lucia still hasn’t made an official move just yet.
