the second mixtape released by isaiah rashad “pieces of a kid” (also known as “welcome to the game”) is, in fact, the project which established isaiah as one of the most promising rappers in the scene, even exciting the curiosity of maybe the best label at that time, the tde, top dawg entertainment. the project is just jams on jams. zaywop mostly raps about his life and his emotional struggles: personal and relatable themes perfectly performed over chill ass beats, why we should ask more?
what i really like about isaiah is his ability to transmit his feelings into a song, whether calmly or aggressively, he is always able to do it, and it’s outstanding. isaiah started his rap career as well as possible, and luckily, his potential didn’t get wasted, and the other projects he released then are widely considered great and even improvements. the mixtape’s enjoyableness made it one of my favorite projects of all time, and isaiah one of my favorite rappers as well. hope zaywop is willing to drop something this year cause it’s been a very long time since his last album “the sun’s tirade”.
