My husband and I love a playful, fun session, but sometimes there’s another story to be told within our lenses. We have had the honor over the years to meet so many incredible people and create lasting memories for their families, but there are very few sessions that have touched the depths of my soul like this one has.
I am never going to be the person who sees or experiences an event and has the talent to go sit down and write a fantastic song about it—or even a junk one at that. I do regularly, however, experience “involuntary musical imagery.” If you’ve never heard of it before, you’re not alone—neither had I. Although I have experienced it almost daily my entire life—triggered by sometimes the simplest thing, like a glimpse of something or a single sound--I only just now used Google to find out that’s one of the many names you can call it when you have a song or part of a song stuck in your head.
Anyway—as I was sitting in the quiet last evening looking back at all of the beautiful memories that we were able to create for the Higdons, an unstoppable story began to unfold in my mind through song. Life has brought them a massive load of trials and tribulations recently with more to come, but as I looked through the images, all I saw was this immense bond of love and strength within their family—and particularly between mom and dad. It truly felt like they could raise each other up and withstand any storm together. Mix that with the swirling song in my head and I was brought to the verge of tears.
When life brings your family mountains that seem impossible to climb and seas impossible to cross, cling to each other and lift up those that need it the most.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be
