On the right: I thought I was shredded AF ( this was towards the end of summer) I never measured my food, I never kept tracked of macros, nor did I manipulate them, I did an excessive amount of cardio ( 3-5 times a week) I just knew the basics, stay away from sugar, eat healthy foods.. etc. NOW ON THE LEFT: I decided let me push it. I bought my first weight scale, measured my calories ( which gave me knowledge of how many calories I should be eating) learned to manipulate my macros, did cardio maybe 1-2 per week and added various new exercises to my training session. Open Repeat 18.2 & 18.2A 😏 Was anxious to repeat this work today. Last year during the open I was upset after this workout of how much I was able to clean under fatigue. All last year I focused on getting stronger especially with the clean under fatigue. Last year I finished this workout in 6:38 but only hit 182lbs on the clean and that was not well rounded by any means I had the endurance and anaerobic capacity but not the strength under fatigue. I've fixed that! I like the open because it definitely does expose your weaknesses no matter what caliber of athlete you are and you can use that as motivation to make improvements. Fats can be hidden in the foods you least expect. One way to be aware of the amount of fat that’s in the food you’re eating is to take into account HOW IT WAS PREPARED. Was it baked, fried, steamed, broiled, grilled, etc.? You may be eating a plate of broccoli but was it sautéed in butter or steamed. That can be a 200-250 cal difference depending on what kind of fat you use to cook it. Next time you eat or cook something, think deeper about how it got to the way it is. That being said, should you cut out fats from your diet? NO Should you be aware of the healthy fats you should be eating and which ones to limit? YES Should you have a Nutella croissant with friends during brunch? Absolutely (once in a while 🙄) Fats are an essential nutrient to the body. I will be making a post delving deeper into the fats that should be consumed and their benefits, but for now I just wanted to shed light on something that you may have overlooked. An obstacle can showcase strength, rather than expose weakness. I was able to complete Tough Mudder 2018 even with a broken finger (split through the middle from top to bottom). I kept eating well and training hard, working around the injury. It was worth it in the end, the event was super fun.
