I'm a frugal person so it took me a while to break down and buy the chocolate Kodiak Power Cakes mix from Target. I can get the regular one from Costco for so much cheaper. I'm pretty glad I finally tried it, though. I'm sure you'll see me try to turn the regular mix into a chocolate version here soon... Because this was 💣. I also stirred in 1/3 of a serving of PEScience chocolate cupcake protein powder. Today is day 6 of IF and Keto. I’m not weighing, instead focusing on overall health. My mind is clearer, I sleep better, I have more energy. Studies show (albeit these ones are on rats and mice so take this info with a grain of salt) huge effects of IF and/or ADF (alternate day fasting) on heart rate and blood pressure.⠀ ⠀ About 75 million American adults (32%) have high blood pressure—that's 1 in every 3 adults 😔⠀ ⠀ Rats on the IF diet for 6 months: resting heart rate and blood pressure decreased progressively for the first month and then stayed steady for the remaining months at 250 beats/min (heart rate) and 90 mm Hg (Blood pressure)⠀ ⠀ Rats on ad libitum diet (control group) for 6 months: Heart rate stayed at 350 beats/min and blood pressure at 120 mm Hg⠀ ⠀ Summary? 🤔 Fasting could be an excellent means for lowering your resting heart rate and your blood pressure. These findings are similar to the effects of endurance training which is pretty cool! It is suspected there are similar underlying mechanisms.⠀ ⠀ Watch for my post on Friday about why extrapolating rodent data to humans isn’t the best. Are you drinking enough water? OR Are you drinking too much? 💧 From my research, I’ve read that women need about 2 to 2.5L of water a day and men need about 3L. I drink to thirst every day and some days I am more active and need more. 💧 I think everyone should do their own research and listen to their bodies. You don’t want to overdo it because over hydration is just as much of a concern as under hydration. You do not want to flush out more nutrients and minerals, especially during a waterfast. 💧 I read that 1.5 - 2 tsp of pink Himalayan 🧂 is recommended per day and it really does make a difference. I dissolve about 1.5 tsp in 1.5L of water, in my big water bottle and consume that throughout the day. It truly makes a huge difference in how I feel and keeps the cravings away. 💧 If the only thing that keeps you from eating is drinking tons of water and you’re worried that you may be over doing it, try having black green tea or black coffee to keep the hunger at bay. Lay down and rest and you’ll feel it subside. 💧 Happy & safe fasting!

In January this year I saw myself with 18kg more than I usually am, after 5 months of giving birth to my daughter's in who's Pregnacy I put on 23kg, and I was still carrying 5kg from my son which I never lost. I looked in the mirror and I couldn't recognise myself, but funnily enough, it wasn't because of how I looked, it was because of how I felt. I couldn't move properly, I was always tired, there was pain everywhere, I had no clothes to wear and my body was just stuck, as if it had given up. I let vicious habits take over my life, I was eating at least double of what I needed and I was in denial, it was too painful. But I couldn't let my kids have a mum like that. My family and I deserved better. Our best version is not strictly linked to our bodies, but it surely starts there, because it is where you live. It carries you everyday, it carries your choices, your energy, your soul. We can't let it have any less than our best care, our best attention. It took me an extreme situation to realise what I once took for granted, but I am so grateful to have learned the lesson and also have reinforced the knowledge that our power is in our MINDSET, for anything we do. That is my superpower. I hope YOU can find yours too.
