It’s been a few months since I’ve posted but here’s the reason why.... baby is due 1st Feb 2020. I’m 21 weeks and apart from the first trimester when I felt sick all the time I’ve been exercising 2–3 times a week, I’m still doing clubbercise and cardio and weights. Weight gain is only 7lbs which is great. I had my 20 week scan and baby is growing well. I plan to post my food, obviously I’m not following any plan but I’m trying to eat healthy meals where I can. In my last pregnancy I wasn’t very active but in this one I feel stronger. Yes, I am getting bigger, feeling more uncomfortable and things are getting a little more difficult physically but a little exercise makes me feel so much better. Some of my sweet Whole Foods finds. Made Kohlrabi Linguine noodles with Fody Tomato Basil sauce. Added in mushrooms and it was fantastic. The Kohlrabi noodles were better than zucchini and shiritaki noodles I had in the past. And they held up in the fridge really well for 5 days. I was worried they’d be soggy/slimey. I threw some extra sauce on a low carb Tortilla with tomatoes, spinach, and cream cheese. Delish! Lots of plants and fiber keep the carbs low. I also enjoyed a cheese stick and a quest bar at work. I’ve struggled staying on track recently. Life happened. Work happened. Meal-Prepping got harder. Finding motivation got harder. Fast food got easier. Sometimes not eating at all got easier. Weighing in at 156lbs made me feel defeated the past few weeks from my lowest of 142lbs. Feeling unattractive felt acceptable. Then this morning I weighed in at 151lbs without even looking at a gym...and I realized (yes your body fluctuates about 5lbs) but not just that... CALORIE BUDGETING 💸💰💸💰 . I know you’ve heard it all before 😴 Energy in VS energy out, burn more than you consume, macros this and calories that But what the hell are you supposed to eat?🤔 . Lemme break it down for you. The energy of our food is measured in calories. . Protein = 4 calories per gram Carbohydrates = 4 calories per gram Fats = 9 calories per gram Which brings me to my next point 🤓 . Whether you’re aware of it or not, we all have a calorie budget. This dictates if we lose, gain or maintain weight. The food we eat can be broken down into two categories. Higher and lower volume foods 🍏🥖🍔🍦🥗 . It’s EASIER to break the calorie bank on high energy foods such as chocolate, ice cream and PB. Why? The energy value of these foods is higher. . Foods like popcorn, tuna and fruit have a lower energy value meaning you can eat more food for less calories. . My point here is there are no GOOD and BAD foods. Some just cost more from your energy allowance than others 🤷🏼‍♀️ My advice? Incorporate a little bit of everything and you’ll be on the way to a satisfying and well balanced diet ✔️

Meal Prep Time! Tomorrow I’m going apple picking and I’m prepping some food so that I can stay on track of this 122 day cut 🙏🏾 When you’re counting calories, it’s so so important to be prepared. That doesn’t mean you have to be like me and prep the night before (although it does help...plus I’m a little weird and actually enjoy it) but you do need to consider what you’re going to eat especially when going out. For example, since I’ll be out tomorrow, I’ll eat: Lunch: Tuna salad w/ cucumber 🥒 Apple 🍎 Banana 🍌 Blueberries 🤗 Snack: Chips 😏 Dinner: Shack Burger 🍔 Fries 🍟 And yes, this all adds up to the number of calories I need to remain in a deficit...including the burger, and fries 😉 This isn’t what I usually eat during the week but since it’s the 3rd week of my cut, I thought I’d treat myself but I promised that I’d stay within my calorie limit, so a compromise! (No milkshake though 🙄😤) It’s possible to eat out when in a deficit, and definitely possible in a surplus. Just be prepared and stay ready! And allow yourself to indulge within reason. It’ll make this process A LOT more enjoyable and sustainable.

Should we eat 3 meals a day, 5 meals a day or 6 meals a day? . I guess we’ve all heard or read somewhere that we should eat 5-6 meals a day to keep our metabolism high and working throughout the day. Or, we should eat after 8pm 🕗 if not all the food will get stored directly as body fat! . So what’s true n what’s not⁉️ . ✅ Truth is... the number of meals u eat daily is NOT as important as your calorie intake!. . As long as you’re eating in calorie deficit, u can eat 2 meals a day 🥗🍲 (maybe you’re practicing intermittent fasting), 3, 4, 6, or 8... It doesn’t matter! You will still experience weight loss. . #sidebyside . . I've been kind of Mia from Instagram for a while... Honestly, It's really hard keeping up with the posts sometimes. So... The picture on the left came up on my timehop today... Such a crazy difference. However, I am about 15 pounds heavier than my lowest weight. So I've gained a little bit of weight, but i'm still 180 lbs down, and even though I'm disappointed with myself, I still have so much to be proud of.... This is life you guys. You go up, you go down. Proof that a CALORIE DEFICIT is the key to weight loss: not a fad diet or a quick fix . I recently re-calculated my macros to a deficit, and this past week I have still found a way to fit in foods I crave without going overboard...And guess what, I’ve lost weight! I have eaten protein cereal every day this week for breakfast, fit in a couple hot tamales every day cuz yum, and even had a pop tart and an Oreo here and there 🙌🏼 not to mention, today was donut day at work🤪 those are all fairly carb heavy foods, so I’ve been working hard to stay on track with hitting my fat + protein goal as well! . Don’t fall into the belief that you have to starve yourself, not eat carbs, buy a fit-tea or a detox, or do any absurd diet other than simply be in A CALORIE DEFICIT! You can still eat all the foods you love and lose the weight, you just maybe don’t polish off a sleeve of Oreos in one sitting 😂 There is no need to deprive yourself of the foods you love . I have also stayed active all week, doing compound lifts and trying to keep my daily steps high. This is important! Another misconception, mostly by women, is that cardio is king❌ get comfortable being uncomfortable- lift some weights and eat good food. In order to lose fat there truly needs to be a caloric deficit. Maintaining your muscle mass via ongoing strength training will ensure you don’t lose the progress you worked so hard for. Yesterday someone tagged me in this transformation shot from 2.5 years ago. And while it could have honestly just discouraged me, I've been doing a lot of inner work to get my mind right and get back on track. Seeing this was what finally turned that switch on in my brain! I feel so renewed, committed, and motivated. The journey is NOT linear. At least, not for me😂 I feel fortunate to have the experience and the tools I gained from losing 92 pounds through nutrition and exercise before. I feel much more confident this time around. Dinner was BOMB. Burgers + roasted green beans + air fried delicata + sautéed onions and shrooms! . . . For the burgers, I used a pound of 90/10 beef + an egg + minced onion + rotisserie chicken seasoning. (It was really good. Don’t judge that I put a chicken seasoning in beef. 😂) The green beans were roasted with sea salt on 425 for about 18 min and the delicata was air fried at 400 around 15! Swipe for a pic of the buns I picked up. They were 3sp a piece and delish! Dinner came out to 8sp! 🍔

My Japan trip had me eating way too much tempura and wagyu. But fats aren’t bad. Apparently people think fats are just as bad as carbs since carbs make you fat, which are just as bad as protein since protein damages your kidneys right? 🙄. So instead of having a water only diet (which btw 100% of people who drink water have later died), here’s why certain types of fats are better than others: Unsaturated fats like polyunsaturated, which include omega-3 and omega-6 (fatty fish, shellfish, flax/chia/hemp seeds), and monounsaturated (avocado, nuts, vegetable oils) are better for you because they lower your LDL (bad cholesterol) and raise your HDL (good cholesterol). Saturated fats such as fats from animal products (think white juicy deliciousness from a wagyu steak), some milk, coconut oil, various processed foods should be limited. Trans fats aka industry-made fats when oil is hydrogenated, increases your bad cholesterol and decreases your good cholesterol. Avoid any products with trans fat in them. Aim for a daily fat intake of around 20-35% of your total calories with saturated fat being <10% of your intake. Took a bunch of pics📸at the gym today, bc I was honestly feeling myself! and bc no one else was in the gym 😅 . Today was an okay day at the gym, arm day is always my least favorite bc my arms are WEAK, but I tried super hard, and really pushed myself. . I did @kpnfit GYM GUIDE💪🏻 week 1 day 5! So, I’m FINALLY moving onto week 2. Doing this during my super busy grad school + student teaching schedule is a bit of a here and there, but I try and get in 2 a week AT LEAST, sometimes 3. . I’ve been REALLY❤️ enjoying Kennedy’s guide, bc it has everything already laid out for me. From what today’s routine will be, to extra cardio and other options and tips. Anyway, and my patience has gone - [yes my channel was still being monitored - imagine that] I dragged my ass downstairs and got it done? Why? Why you ask? No idea. Just want this weight to shift after hitting a plateau. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yesterday and today’s deficit. Regardless of going through the McDonald’s drive through today I’m still 200cals under today’s deficit as well. It’s been a busy day today and I had a late breakfast so when I finished work I had 800 odd calories to play with so chose a plain grilled chicken and salad wrap and specifically asked for NO sauce...chips and water. Protein target hit on both days too! . I’m out for the whole day tomorrow so won’t be able to track calories but that’s ok! Life happens and I’m at the gym Sunday and can get back to thinking about my food straight away. I’m looking forward to seeing what choices I can make, not dreading it.

It hurts my soul when a member at the gym I work at comes up to me and says, “my trainer has me doing no sugar/no carbs, what’s the best shake to get?” 🤦🏻‍♀️⁣ ⁣ If a trainer is saying this to you, find a new one. Repeat after me: you do NOT need to cut out carbs, sugar, or processed foods to see results and live a healthy life. You do NOT need to deprive yourself to lose weight. In fact you are doing yourself a disservice. Restriction will only lead to binge eating, regaining of weight, and then failure which leaves you feeling guilty and hopeless because you weren’t “disciplined” enough. ⁣ ⁣ There is a time and place for discipline if you have goals, but giving up any food group shouldn’t be an option. It’s completely unnecessary and it’s time to shut that shit down. ⁣ ⁣ You can eat the foods you love to eat - it does NOT have to be complicated. ⁣ ⁣ Last night I took this after I had half of a pizza, a cookie, half a bag of hippeas, and a chocolate dipped ice cream bar. Today I ate kale salad with sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts, and tempeh.⁣ ⁣ It’s called FLEXIBILTIY! Try it sometime.

Take a look at a couple of options for setting up your calories each week. Most of my clients have 4 lower calorie days & 3 higher calorie days (all are deficit calories) that they can use as they’d like. A few prefer one target straight across all 7 days of the week. Both work very well:) @Regrann from @cartergood - Tracking your food is one of the best ways to ensure you're consistently eating the right amount of calories and macros for your fitness goals. ⠀ But for some people, tracking the same amount every single day can get a bit monotonous… ⠀ The good news? You actually don’t have to eat the same number of calories or macros every single day! ⠀ Similar to how your week-to-week weight average is more important than your day-to-day weight, your average weekly calorie intake is far more relevant than how many calories you're eating on any specific day. ⠀ Knowing that, there's a lot you can do that'll make your calorie intake work for YOU! ⠀ (hehe, that rhymed 🤓) ⠀ This graphic shows three different ways you can manipulate your weekly calorie intake to fit your lifestyle. ⠀ Personally, I like to eat (roughly) the same 200-300 range of calories each day. ⠀ I have clients who prefer cycling their calories based on when they work out. ⠀ I have clients who cycle their calories to accommodate their weekend partying, too. 😉🍻 ⠀ The Bottom Line ✅: success comes down to finding something you can follow consistently. Confession !!! 🙈 obviously we can’t always eat perfectly all the time and trying to do so just leads to cravings and pigging out . The last two days Iv eaten pizza and cakes and sweets and drank wine , and it was all glorious !! I don’t believe in good food or bad food , some is more nutritional than others but mostly it’s Just food ! I won’t wallow or regret what Iv eaten but I will be aware and balanced . Back to it tomorrow after a big old food shop and loads of lovely new cooking ideas to try 😍 I try to eat well as much as possible and stay in a calorie deficit by working out and planning ahead with my meals , but If there are cakes delivered to work .. Thank Goodness for canned soup & canned crabmeat 🦀or I wouldn’t have had any lunch today . This yummy combo was an absolute lifesaver , and FULL of protein when you add 1/2 canned crab 🦀 to this ready made healthy request clam chowder soup . I finished it off with a dusting of fresh ground pepper . We had a window guy come today to do the entire outside windows , while Hubby did all of the inside ones . We also cleaned all of the upstairs & downstairs shutters inside & out , AND I purged & cleaned & reorganized all of the master bathroom cupboards & drawers . It feels wonderful to have everything so clean & tidy .
